I am just an absolute huge fan of all books written by Jodi Picoult. Aside from the morally intriguing and heart wrenching stories, her writing style is superb. She went to Princeton University for undergrad and attended Harvard to obtain her master’s degree… so basically she should be an amazing author. I love how she can give such differing perspectives of the characters every chapter. But what I love most is how at the end of every novel, the reader is left questioning her own beliefs and values.
House Rules was no exception for Picoult’s enticing style. In the book, the main character Jacob is a teenager suffering from Asperger’s syndrome who finds himself in a bit of trouble after his social skills teacher turns up missing. The reader is introduced to both the gifts and curses that Asperger’s (high functioning autism) brings to the entire family.
Definitely, definitely, definitely recommended!
Home Safe by Elizabeth Berg
Well, this book was free. They passed out these coupons to redeem the ebook in the B&N store one day. And you know what? It was actually pretty okay. I wouldn’t read it again, but it was a fun quick read.
There’s not a huge plot… basically, Helen is an author who is suffering from writer’s block all while dealing with the death of her husband. She seems to be fine financially until a call from her accountant. I read a review for it online, and for some reason I thought there was going to be a huge scandal regarding a secret family the husband had. But nope. Anyways… worth the read.
If You Have to Cry, Go Outside and Other Things Your Mother Never Told You by Kelly Cutrone
First, I do like Kelly Cutrone on The City. I like her edginess, her girl power attitude, and her confidence. The book was very, well… Kelly. There were parts that I just skimmed over. I’m not one to be huge on religion, and some of the spiritual aspects of the book was a little too far out there for me.
But, she does have really good advice. And I like reading her point of view and adding some and comparing others to my own viewpoints. Definitely read this if you’re a girl who wants to have a career someday. If you want to be a stay at home mom (which I definitely do not have anything against) you should probably skip it.
Really though, I had some “aha!” moments reading it. It’s funny too. And interesting to see how she made it to where she is now.
xoxo
PS I’m currently reading: Something Borrowed
I LOVED House Rules, as well as every other book she has written! I am adding Kelly's book to my list right now. Love, love, love Something Borrowed as well as her other books. Definitely read her new one, Heart of the Matter!
P.S. They are filming a movie version of Something Borrowed and most of it was filmed in my hometown, a few blocks away from my house! xoxo
I've read all of Emily Giffin's books. I just finished her newest, Heart of the Matter, and all of them are GREAT!
Emily Giffin is an excellent writer and a quick read! I am currently reading Heart of the Matter and enjoying it! After Something Borrowed you will definitely want to read Something Blue!
Loved something borrowed, but Something Blue is my favorite book of all time. The movie based on a combo of the two is coming out next year. Happy reading! xoxoxo
