One Way Ticket

Today I’m flying off to NYC with a one-way ticket! I’ve been going up to the city often this summer between finalizing job situations and finding (and securing) an apartment. (Everything you’ve heard about finding an apartment in Manhattan, for the record, is true.)
Excited doesn’t even begin to describe how I’m feeling… and, frankly, neither does anxious. I think I would say I’m just emotionally overwhelmed. Nevertheless, I can’t wait to start this next chapter of my life. It would, of course, be nice if my clothes and furniture could magically show up in my apartment. I’m thankful that I went to school in a metropolitan area because I’m used to moving from Florida to a city via airplanes. It’s tricky!!!
I’ve been enamored with the city since I was little and even more so while at Georgetown. I traveled to NYC (by myself) in October of my junior year and knew that I just had to live there. After countless trips last year, I knew that much more that I had to be there. (Although, there were a few weeks during spring semester where I thought it would never happen!)
This is the perfect time in my life to test the Manhattan waters and I can’t wait to see what kinds of opportunities and adventures take place. But, I don’t think that the reality of moving has actually hit me yet…
Things I’m looking forward to:
Living alone– After years of dorm life, I can’t wait to have my own space. And my own bathroom. And my own kitchen. I really lucked out with the apartment hunt!
Subways– I think I’m the only person who actually likes the subway (and maybe this will change after living there). But after dealing with the non-existant Metro stop in Georgetown, I can’t wait to be able to actually go wherever I want to go!!!
Working– Yep. I am very excited for this part. I’m in a little bit of a unique situation for my job, but it could not be more perfect for me!
Central Park– Hello, it’s a few blocks away and it’s amazing. Can’t wait to spend time on the weekends here. Especially when it cools off a little bit… oh it’s going to be fun.
Friends– So many people I know and love live in the city and I can’t wait to be close to them again.
Anyway…. I’m excited!!!!!
xoxo

YAY!
I just moved to a new city for my first big girl job too! (Pittsburgh -> Memphis) and it's amazing to be an adult and on your own!

You're lucky you have friends in NYC, I moved here not knowing anyone, which is sometimes tough. I know my coworkers, but that's about it – my sorority has an alumni chapter here so I plan to get involved with them.

So exciting! Keep us posted! 🙂
