Australia

I don’t think I’ve ever wanted to travel so much in my life. There have been moments where I’ve been itching to just… get out of town. But right now, there are just so many places that I want to go. London, California, and Paris (of course) have been topping my list for a while now.
At the end of January, I’ll be heading off to Scotland with Barbour (wee!). I’m trying to plan a handful of trips here and there around the country. And I’m definitely still working on coordinating that trip to Paris (and hopefully London while I’m at it). So exciting!
Oh, but while I was on one of my late-night Internet obsession searching (normal….), I came across this incredible latte with an anchor on top. I went mad searching high and low for where in the world it originated.
I found it and it’s in Australia… and it gets better. Let’s just say, Australia has officially been added to my wanderlust list. (Starting to save for the plane ticket as we speak…) My sister studied abroad in Australia last summer and I was so jealous. Her trip looked absolutely incredible.
Okay, back on track. Where did those lattes with the cute anchors come from? Only the most perfect beachside restaurant called The Boathouse. The obsession is real. I’ve been emailing with them essentially telling them to expect a visit from me soon. (For the record, they’re awesome and friendly!)
I’m afraid that if I go, I’ll never want to leave! But I think it’s well worth that particular risk.
I also spent a long time looking through their amazing blog and the videos are just gorgeous. (Destination wedding, anyone?!)
Oh! I hope you all are as inspired by The Boathouse as I am! Group trip anyone?!

Anyone else itching to travel? Dream locations?

xoxo
PS If anyone who reads TCP has been there… please consider me totally jealous.
PPS I will try to curb my desire to travel there tomorrow by following their Instagram!

I'm doing an internship for a few months in Sydney this summer (I've never been!). I'll definitely have to check out The Boathouse!

I went to Australia for two months back in 2009 and LOVED it. Melbourne was by far my favorite city, but the entire country is gorgeous. Fingers crossed that you'll get to see it for yourself!

I'm at a cross-roads when it comes to travelling. My dream is to move to the UK and work with Scotland Yard (my inner criminologist major is pushing me to do it). I've even been looking into summer abroad course at Oxford, and am dying to go (there's a Jack the Ripper guided tour!). But then my anxiety gets the best of me. Day trips outside the city can get the best of me, and travelling half way across the world (don't even get me started on my irrational fear of planes) sets me into full blown panic-mode. Do you have any advice for relieving the anxiety of travelling? Anything from the stress of planning ahead of time, to finding people to meet and events to go to, to budgeting for the trip?

This place looks fantastic!! I am always experiencing that longing to just go and fulfill my wanderlust. I can't even narrow down where I want to go next. Europe is always on my list, and South America. But really, just GOING is what I love and long to do. A road trip to a small, quaint satisfies my wanderlust, if only momentarily.

I can't stand the idea of not traveling every year! This year it will be Guadeloupe, Scotland and maybe Siam.
In Scotland have you planned moving or just staying in Edinburgh because in this country there are the most beautiful landscapes I have ever seen!!! I went two years ago and I'm going back this summer!

I will be studying abroad in Paris this coming semester, leaving next week! If you do end up going, please do some kind of meet up! I would love to meet you, and I could show you around!

You will adore it! I recently moved from Australia to San Francisco and miss my homeland terribly. Your post may have caused me to cry a little 🙁 I would recommend going to Bryon Bay if your time permits! It's about two hour's drive from where I grew up, and it is absolutely beautiful.

Ahh The Boathouse at Balmoral Beach. Such a great spot! There are SO many more like it here in Australia! If you come to Sydney in the next while, consider me your official tour guide. I spent 2013 working there in an advertising agency and loved it but I'm moving to Canberra, the capital, this year for my final year of law school. Let me know if you end up over here though! Amy x

PS – for more Australian goodness, Google photos from the 2013 Sydney Diner en Blanc, held on Bondi Beach. I went and it was amazing! It will definitely increase your wanderlust! x

Hey,

Those coffees look absolutely amazing.

Hope you have a wonderful time in Scotland. I was born there and lived there for 10 years, and am moving back there after University (Europe is one of my 3 continents I have lived in.) Let me know where in Scotland you are going for your visit, and I can offer you some local knowledge. There are some wonderful tea rooms and tartan shops. You will love it!

Come to London if you get the chance! I think it's the best city in the world and if I get my way I am never leaving!

Can't wait to see your Scotland adventures!

It's crazy that you posted about Australia because I am studying abroad here for a term in Gold Coast/Surfer's Paradise area which is so so amazing.

The culture here is so relaxed, beachy and fun loving and as a Type A crazy busy New Englander who lives by her iCal, I am absolutely enjoying myself and the people here. Everyone is so friendly and coffee is to DIE FOR.

Honestly, I wouldn't go home if I didn't have a business and responsibilities.

But you absolutely come to Australia. Sydney is beautiful, Gold Coast is wonderful. You CANNOT go wrong.

You should definitely come to Australia! Down here in Aus there is a huge stereotype around coffee in America and everybody thinking it is terrible. An English comedian deemed our country a land of coffee snobs which is true. We are massive on cafe culture and I think you would adore Sydney and the coast.

Scotland is a good start not so sunny at the moment though 🙂 If you need any advice (or a friendly tour guide) for London please let me know (same for Paris, I am french after all lol) This place looks stunning in Australia, never been but my cousin lives there and often tells me to come and visit so 'group trip' sounded nice 🙂 let me know if you need any help for booking anything in the UK or France! I have Bali at the top of my head (yes I know I watched Eat Pray Love too many times) Take care

I've lived in Poland. I recommend you go visit Kraków, beautiful city, or Gdansk/Gdynia and Sopot on the Baltic Sea. London was great, I'm currently applying for a transfer of my teaching license there, because I want to move there for a little bit. Paris was fun as well. I got robbed in Barcelona, but it was still a very unique and beautiful city. I have a friend from Australia, he describes it as a larger version of Texas, he says people are not very tolerant. I've never been so I can't say whether that's true or not.

Australia is definitely a place I long to visit as well. I am also heading to Scotland this year. but not until April. I can't wait to hear about your trip and hopefully get some fun ideas on things to do while there. My biggest goal is to spend three weeks traveling around Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia.

If I ever do find myself in Australia I will definitely be checking out The Boathouse…their Instagram is stunning!

Personally, I'm lusting after Thailand (thanks Pinterest). I love the ocean and the pictures people post from there are dreamlike. Plus, I've never been to Asia. India would be up there too – a friend is currently on a Fulbright there and I'm especially jealous of his latest pictures at the Taj Mahal!

Everyone I know who has gone to Australia has been obsessed! Definitely a good wanderlist destination, especially when your sister could give you a crash course on her favorites. If you're dreaming it, I'm sure you'll be doing it sooner than later!

I think that my top three places on my bucket list right now would be Barcelona, Australia, and in the US I really want to see the West Coast (aka California!). I went to Germany on an exchange about 6 years ago, and I'd say that is what gave me the travel bug!

Hi Carly,

I'm a Scottish reader and have loads of recommendations for some fab places on our side of the pond! If they're not already on your list you should definitely visit Ballater and St Andrews – the two best towns in Scotland!

Happy travels!

I am currently in the process of planning my trip to Paris in April…eek! I have already begun throwing loose bills into a mason jar (painted pink, labeled 'Paris funds'…of course) and it's truly amazing how fast it can add up. Good for you, already starting to save! For us girls on a budget, I had to keep reminding myself that the travel experience will be special because we make it that way, not because of five-star hotels or pricey tourist gimmicks. Do your research!! And the more you save in terms of lodging and air fare, the more spare change you have for…SHOPPING! Best of luck.

P.S.-my girlfriends and I are your number one fans! Go TCP!!

That does look absolutely beautiful. I want to travel to Asia and just backpack across the continent… so many places to go, so little time (and vacation days) to do it!!

I wish! Australia is definitely on my list, as is Paris and London too. I'd also like to go to Ireland, and a few countries in south america. My family is traveling to Paraguay in South America this summer, and are going to spend a few days in Rio…hopefully we get world cup tickets too through the lottery! *crossing fingers*

Oh yes, Australia is awesome. I thought I always wanted to live somewhere else until I travelled, and realised there's no place like home. If you do come to Australia, I'd love to hang out and share an anchor coffee with you!

We traveled to Australia last Spring and it was, hands down, the most incredible thing I've ever done. It is beyond words beautiful and the people are the nicest you will meet anywhere in the world. From the moment we got home I was dreaming of when we can return. Go go go if you can!!

One tip from someone who's been – plan for a long trip! There's a lot to see and do there, and I would list some of the places I would recommend but it would get too long 🙂 I did blog about it while I was there at journeytothelandofoz.blogspot.com if you want some ideas while you're planning your trip!
