The best part of the week was definitely traveling to DC to speak to a couple of classes at Georgetown. It was an incredible honor. I was on the phone with my mom, walking around campus after, and I told her I wish I could write a letter to my freshman self to tell her (me) everything that would eventually happen. Although I wouldn’t want to ruin the surprises, I don’t think she’d even believe me anyway. Failing accounting would lead to me starting a website that would eventually become my job?! WHAT! And then I’d be invited back to guest lecture in a class I took?! Double WHAT!
Here’s what was on my radar this week:
ONE // The Cutest Dress
While I was in Georgetown, I popped into the Tuckernuck store to do a little shopping and to catch up with all of my friends. There were so many things that caught my eye, but it was this dress that I fell in love with. Isn’t it gorgeous?
TWO // Hamilton Medley
New year, same obsession with Hamilton! These kids from Spirit Young Performers Company absolutely kill it in this Hamilton medley, especially the three girls who do the Schuyler sisters part!
THREE // Striped Trench Coat
I am trying my very best to cut back on shopping, but J. Crew is making it SO hard. This striped trench coat is just calling my name….
FOUR // The Trouble with America’s Most Beloved Mall Brands
Speaking of J. Crew though, some bad news on the business front. When I was putting together my presentation for the classes at Georgetown, I found a presentation I did for a project about American Eagle and why they would struggle! Hoping the brands can figure it out!
FIVE // Gloves that Translate Sign Language
What incredible innovation! Students from University of Washington invented gloves that translate sign language into audible speech. Of course, this isn’t a perfect solution, but innovation has to start somewhere, and I’d say they’re off to a great start.
Hope everyone has a great weekend!
PS You can still vote for me in the Shorty Awards… You guys are the best!
That’s so amazing that you got to speak at your alma mater! What a weird and amazing feeling that must have been! Loving that dress from Tuckernuck and those sign language gloves are so cool!

The dress is beautiful! And woaah those gloves are so cool! I’m actually taking an ASL course in college right now. Yesterday there was a fire drill, and when we got back in the building, our professor showed us a bunch of cool and accessible emergency technology, as Deaf people can’t hear the blare of fire alarms. // Going back to guest speak? How exciting! Was it recorded or anything? What was your lecture about? // Congrats on the Shorty Award nomination again 🙂 -Audrey | Brunch at Audrey’s
What a great opportunity to guest lecture at Georgetown! Watching the video for those gloves was truly amazing!

What an amazing trip! I can’t imagine going back to my stomping grounds and being thought of as an “expert,” what an honor! I got a D in an accounting class and I’m an accounting major, so I feel your pain 🙂
These are some great finds. That dress is gorgeous!! I used to work at Gap and definitely felt what the article was saying about business declining. I can only imagine how amazing it must have felt to go back to your college campus! Kudos to you Carly! Congratulations.
P.S I’m curious where you get all your news from? You always have great stories!!

That’s amazing about speaking on your old stomping ground! The part about writing a letter to yourself makes me wonder what my future self would tell me right now. I feel overwhelmed and lost a little bit in what I’m doing and it makes me curious to how everything will turn out!
Congrats on being invited to guest lecture at your alma mater – how exciting!

That’s so awesome that you got to speak at Georgetown!!! You go girl! 🙂 xo Devon Seventeen Dresses
Striped trench coats are so much more fun that normal trench coats. First, I need to work on replacing my lint-i-ful black trench that I have had for ages! Have a good weekend, Carly!

It is an interesting time to work in the industry, but very rewarding when your brand sees success!
wow, I started reading your blog a couple months ago and didn’t realize you went to georgetown! I’m a current sophomore here, and it’s always exciting to find another person from georgetown especially unexpectedly.
