This summer has been a horrible time for me regarding reading. I haven’t read nearly as much as I’d like to, which is apparently how I’m kicking off all of my reading posts this year. I am almost done with my crazy travel schedule, and I think I’ll be slowing down more. With that comes additional reading time. Fingers crossed. (The stack of “to read” books I have right now is OUT OF CONTROL.)
Despite a slower reading pace, I did just finish two books that I enjoyed.
A Man Called Ove | This is about a man who is grappling with old age and the personal and societal changes that come with it. I actually didn’t love the first half of A Man Called Ove. I found it depressing and kind of difficult to get into. By the time I finished the book though, I had completely fallen in love with all the characters. I talked to my mom about it, and she felt the same way. I told one of my friends not to read it because I didn’t like it and then texted her when I was done to tell her that I had changed my mind.
My mom also read Bear Town by the same author and highly recommend it. I added it to my list as well.
Nantucket Nights | This was my first Elin Hilderbrand book! She lives on Nantucket, and all of her books are based on the island. I have to say, it’s the perfect beach read! Very light and highly entertaining. Nantucket Nights is about a friendship between three women and the secrets they keep and share. If you need something easy to read while on a trip or to listen to while in the car, this is a great choice!
They’re both books of genres I usually don’t read, but they’d be nice to dip into to diverse my range this year. Thank you for the recommendations!

This summer has been a hard time for me reading, too! I love reading in Spring, and I always get LOADS done in Autumn and Winter, but for some reason it always slips a bit during Summer!

I loved A Man Called Ove! It was my favorite book last year and I’m recommending it to everyone. Thanks for the tip on the second book, I can always use recommendations for light reads that aren’t painfully stupid.

I’m in a similar situation like you, I must say – A huge pile of unread books in my room, plus a huge digital pile of unread books in my Kindle. You’ve got to read The Blue Bistro & The Beach Club by Elin Hilderbrand next! Blue Bistro is my favorite by her. Her books are the best reads for summer!

A Man Called Ove might be the best book I’ve read in years! It made me laugh and cry. Currently reading My Grandmother Sends Her Regards and Apologises by the same author. About 80 pages in, and already loving it.
