Ever since graduating high school and subsequently moving “north” to DC, my unofficial official uniform has been button downs and jeans. I have a feeling this won’t change through my adulthood. I love fancy dresses. I love flirty little skirts. I love bright prints. But what do I feel most comfortable in? Simple button downs and well-worn jeans.
Always.
Last week, I was heading into the city via train for a few different (pretty casual) meetings and it was a gorgeous 70 degrees.
I had been eyeing these plaid d’Orsay flats online for a few weeks. While I was visiting my family in Florida, they had two pairs left in the store and I tried them on, fell in love, and wore them out of the mall. Honestly, I didn’t think they’d be comfortable and I was willing to suffer through it. I went down a full half size and thought maybe they’d pinch my toes (from the point) or rub my heels. Imagine my delight when they ended up being crazy comfortable. I easily walked from Greenwich Village to Grand Central in them.
And got more compliments than I can count. Don’t you just love when that happens?!
Since the shoes were the “fun” part of my outfit, I kept it pretty neutral and simple up top. I have more white blouses than I care to admit, but this one is hands down my favorite. The weight of the oxford cloth is perfect, there are no logos, and it’s a true button down. (Versus a button up.) Oh, did I mention that it’s $29 and comes in a blue version too?!
And then because I wasn’t sure if it was going to feel cooler than the thermostat, I tossed on a sweater for good measure.

My unofficial uniform are jeans and whatever top I can find 😛 Some days I'll be super casual and some days I'll look a little more put together. I need to get more button ups/downs (I never knew the difference until I Googled it just now)! Those flats are so cute -Audrey | Brunch at Audrey's
This is absolutely the best outfit! I love a simple look with something special thrown in. Your shoes are to die for! I was so excited to see J Crew regram them from you.

What size do you wear in the button down? Trying to decide which to order. Thanks!
XS, if you're unsure… size down! Joe Fresh tends to run large!
So cute! I really like these flats and that you tried to keep it neutral with them being the star of the show!

Do you find those jeans are stretchy? The zipper on my gap jeggings just broke and I'm on the hunt for a new pair!
