A lot has changed since I graduated from college 11 years ago (no 18-year-old TikTokers posting insane GRWM videos, haha) but at the same time…. a lot hasn’t changed? It’s a universal experience, being young and living on your own for the first time. You have so much to learn about how to take care of yourself, and you’re surrounded by people who are just as new to it as you are. With back to school season here and many moms who read my blog, I wanted to put together a list of things to include in your next college care package!! Even better, I only shopped Amazon so they’ll receive everything in a snap.
College Care Package Essentials
PLANNER // TIDE TO GO STICKS // PEPPER SPRAY // PORTABLE CHARGER // WRINKLE RELEASER
MAKEUP REMOVER // HEATED BLANKET // EMERGEN-C
AIRTAG // LIQUIDIV // GRANOLA BARS
Time management is crucial in college, and even if you were good at it in high school, there’s definitely a learning curve. I know digital planners are big now, but there’s a lot to be said for good ole fashioned pen and paper. The Day Designer is one of the best planners, in my opinion. Aside from the usual features, it’s great for goal setting. You don’t need a Tide to Go stick until you need it, and then you’ll be glad you have it! With a set of three, they can keep one in their backpack, one in their dorm, and another in their “going out” bag.
Another item you don’t need until you need it? Pepper spray. Women’s safety is a huge concern in college, and even though it’s a little clunky, it’s worth having just in case. Honestly, portable chargers can be a lifesaver too! Even though cell phones are a relatively new invention, it would be pretty unsettling to be alone with a dead phone. (Though of course it’s just as good for maintaining a charge at football games and parties, ha.) Chances are, there’s no iron in the dorm room, and they may not be doing laundry as frequently as they once did. Enter: wrinkle releaser, a college care package must. There’s unscented ones if they’re sensitive to smells too!
Even though makeup wipes aren’t necessarily good for your skin, they’ll do in a pinch. These come individually wrapped so they can pop one in their bag before they leave for the night. Heated blankets aren’t the prettiest, but they’re absolutely practical (and cozy!), especially if they go to college up north. When you’re operating on less sleep than usual, as is typical in college, your immune system lets its guard down. Not great during cold and flu season. Emergen-C should be in all care packages for college students– by the time they need it, they won’t feel up to stopping by the drug store.
It’s surprising just how easy it is to lose things in college!! If I were still in school, I’d definitely get an AirTag for my wallet. You never know where something will turn up!! I know Liquid IV is all over the podcast circuit, but they’re pretty effective. The electrolyte drink mixes are hydrate you fast, making them the perfect treatment for a hangover. The last college care package essential is granola bars! Whether they’ve overslept and don’t have time for breakfast or they’re going out and don’t know when they’ll be back, granola bars are always useful to have on hand.
As a recent college grad, I agree with everything in this list! I would also add a surge protector for chargers and wires in your dorm too!

This post is so helpful. Big thank you. There is a recent abundance of expecting moms. Do you perhaps have a care package they would appreciate that I could send to them along with congratulations?
