HOME OFFICE IDEAS

After posting my small office tour recently, it got me thinking about what I’d do if our spare room wasn’t also a guest bedroom with some office furniture squeezed in, ha! We love our little house, but none of us have much personal space to ourselves– much less an entire room. While I don’t know exactly what direction I’d go in (though soft colors, smart storage, and an inviting atmosphere are givens), some decor elements definitely came to mind. I thought it’d be fun to share, in case you’re looking for ideas for your own home office designs!

Desk // Candle // Wastebasket ($20!)

Frame // Bulletin Board // Chair

Lamp ($70!) // Rug // Mirror

Desk // What a chic look, right?! I dream of one day having a built-in desk in a dedicated home office, but it’s such a great option (and cheaper than I would have guessed!!). It comes in two neutral tones as well, but I love this subtle pop of color.

Candle // I’m a BIG fan of Hotel Lobby Candles. Their scents are so unique and the throw is frankly remarkable. They’re worth every penny and the best way to elevate any day, but especially a work day. This new one is simply divine—notes of fresh flowers and earl gray tea in one addicting fragrance.

Wastebasket ($20!) // If you follow This Oak House, then you already know! (And if you don’t… you need to. It’s an account run by one of Nancy Meyers’ daughters, and she has GREAT ideas for how to elevate a home.) It’s simple, stylish, and inexpensive, and all you need to do is pop in a liner.

Frame // Something personal is always a nice touch, and I love having frames scattered around our house. This one comes in a few other colors and can be personalized, which I don’t think is necessary but always fun.

Bulletin Board // I feel like bulletin boards have made a comeback—they’re like the “new” gallery walls, in a way. If my desk didn’t overlook a window, I’d have mine above it. It’s the perfect spot because all you have to do is look up and you’re immediately able to take in mantras, creative ideas, photos, and other inspiration.

Chair // Between the clean lines and the rattan, this desk chair is giving Serena & Lily for a literal fraction of the price. It also has an incredibly versatile look, so you can put it in any other living space.

Lamp ($70!) // This couldn’t be more my personal style, and the price makes it a no-brainer. When I saw the wicker shade, I was concerned that it would light a work area weirdly, but the review pictures make me think that’s not an issue.

Rug // A rug… with bows… in a neutral color palette? Say less. An obviously feminine detail that isn’t “in your face.” and anchors the whole room.

Mirror // Bria Hammel is one of my favorite interior designers– in fact, we were going to work with her when we moved into our home, but the closing ended up being delayed and our schedules no longer lined up. Is a mirror essential for a home office space? Unless you work in a job like mine, no. But this was so darling, I couldn’t not include it. It comes in white too!
