On My Radar

As far as weeks go, this one was great. So many fun things happening and the fact that the weather cooperated was just the icing on the cake. I don’t think “cooperated” is even the right word here; the weather was truly showing off for us. And I loved every second of it!

wearing: straw hat (50% off) + off the shoulder top

Gar and I have been taking the dogs to the dog park. It’s a win/win for everyone. The dogs get to run around as much as they want (and it’s the cutest thing ever) and we get to spend some time outside. I look forward to that hour more than anything. Also returning home with exhausted pups is so glorious! The house is never quieter!

wearing: shirtdress (c/o) + ballet flats (on sale)
I also got to meet my Insta-friend Daphne. I’ve been obsessed with her Instagram, and blog, and Snapchat. I always thought she was like a French version of me and then we showed up for tea at the Plaza dressed nearly identical! We had the best afternoon!!! Social media definitely has its drawbacks at times, but it’s also just incredibly amazing for bringing people together. I’m so glad we got the chance to meet in person!
Here’s what has been on my radar this week:

ONE // From a Dad to His Daughter

With graduation season here, I thought this was such a great reminder for everyone. What a sweet and thoughtful letter this was. Someone shared this on Facebook and I really am a sucker for these kinds of things.

TWO // Arabian Nights Choreography

One of my friends from high school choreographed this dance routine and it’s, ummmm, unreal. I watched the whole thing just mesmerized. Amazing dancers and great choreography! (I always find it so exciting to see friends from high school succeed after graduation!)

THREE // Home-Built Diabetes Devices

This article was super fascinating to me. Diabetes can be such a challenging illness, especially for children, and these families built their own monitoring system from open source directions online. They’re working on getting the system approved by the FDA and made into a commercial device, but for now people who are eager to have it now can built it on their own.

FOUR // Gboard

I just downloaded Gboard for my iPhone. It’s a keyboard that integrates Google search so you don’t have to go back and forth between your texts and Safari. Brilliant!

FIVE // Special Needs Teacher to the Rescue

No words for this heart warming story.

Anything great on your radar this week?

Why would you be the French version of her? I think you mean she's the French version of you, or you're the American version of her

On My Radar

After some crazy weeks and a stressful weekend, I was incredibly relieved to have a quiet and low-key work week. I honestly worked from the couch almost the entire week with a heating pad for a super sore back and Teddy snuggled up right next to me. I popped into the city for a couple of press previews, a trunk show my friend was hosting, and a business dinner. (And I saw Ralph Lauren… in Ralph Lauren. It was awesome.)
Garrett and I roadtripped up to Maine yesterday. He’s attending an EMS conference and I tagged along for fun. I’m excited to explore a little bit since Maine has been on my bucket list for a while. Even as we drove through the state (we’re in Rockport now) and even though it was pouring rain, I already love it!
I snapped this picture while in the city for meetings at the end of last week! The foliage was picture perfect.
On my radar this week…
I died watching this video. It’s too funny and downright perfect. Whoever came up with the idea to do this is brilliant and deserves a raise.
Bookmark this video to watch when you have twenty minutes. It’s amazing. Jake Bailey’s senior address almost didn’t happen because he was diagnosed with cancer just a week before. The emotional speech is so moving and inspiring. Also, the end is beyond touching when his peers perform a haka for him which is an incredibly high honor. I was in tears the whole time.
Lilly’s gift guide is live! Since I spend the holidays in Florida, I kind of love being able to soak up some extra warm days before the coldest of winter sets in. (January and February are the worst!)
Willy Wonka has always been one of my favorite movies. They reunited on The Today Show this week. I love that they’ve all remained in touch and consider each other friends even after all these years. And they had the best things to say about the experience which was refreshing.
On my train ride into the city this week, I downloaded a few podcasts to listen to. This interview with Robert Galbraith (aka J. K. Rowling) was my favorite. I think it’s always interesting to hear from an author’s perspective. I’ve only read the first book in the Cormoran Strike series and now I’m dying to read the rest. (I’ve had one on my shelf for months!)
Any fun weekend plans?

I don't think I'll be getting a restful weekend until Thanksgiving break! I hope you had a great time and got a chance to recharge 🙂 Loving the first link haha and the end LOL. And omg I can't believe Willy Wonka was 44 years ago :O I haven't read Cormoran Strike yet! I'll get on that over winter break when finals are over 🙂 Currently in the process of reading The Interestings by Meg Wolitzer -Audrey | Brunch at Audrey's

That picture is beautiful! I plan on getting a ton of college essays and homework done this weekend because next weekend is the beginning of my Thanksgiving break (wooohoooo!) I want to try and get most of my assignments done prior to the break so that I don't have any actual homework to do when I'm home! Crossing my fingers I stick to this plan haha xx, kenz

On My Radar

Have you ever had one of those weeks where you look at the calendar and you’re just not sure how you’re going to get through it. That was this week for me. I very rarely get the Sunday Scaries like I used to when I was in school or when I worked in an office. This Sunday however, that feeling came creeping back in. Let’s just say, I don’t miss those Sunday Scaries.
Two great things about having a jam-packed week? I feel like my productivity is through the roof and the week truly does fly by. I did squeeze in some fun play this week:

Someone’s happy that the weather finally warmed up. If anyone’s having a bad day, go to a dog park and watch pups play and run. It’s the best thing in the world.

A weird habit I’ve gotten into is hopping in the shower, making a Nespresso cup while I’m blow drying my hair, and drinking coffee with I’m putting on makeup and/or curling my hair. Even though I’m a morning person and don’t really need a cup of coffee first thing, I love it. I think about that coffee as I’m falling asleep at night. I used to wait to have my coffee when I first sat down at my desk (to make me happier about being there), but I kind of like this new routine. I’m feeling quite peppy by the time I sit down to work. ^^ Plus, the mug Ashley Brooke Designs sent me couldn’t possibly be a better motivational start to the day!
One of the best parts of this week was getting to attend a community ride with my friend Hallie. Hallie is one of those people that is friends with everyone and can light up a room. She reminds me a lot of Maxie actually! Big personality, big heart. I’m so so so proud of Hallie as she’s been training to be a Soul Cycle instructor (y’all, it’s like a crazy boot camp… not for the faint of heart) and killing it. After experiencing her leadership first hand, I know she’s going to build a loyal Soul following with her classes. It was a lot of fun and very inspiring to see her in action. (Even though my body is hating me right now… tired and sore!)
Here’s what’s been on my radar:

ONE // If You Build It, They Will Come

This is an incredible story. As many of TCP readers are in college now (and lots having graduated or starting the application process), I feel like this is very relevant. I think “inclusion” is one of my favorite words. I wish every college was like this, giving opportunity to anyone and everyone who is willing to show up and do the work! This program seems especially amazing: the color coded computer program for organization, the fact that students volunteer as help and are also friends, the legitimate opportunities. I read the whole blog post twice when it was first published and again later in the week.

TWO // Land Rover, The Ultimate Surprise

I had goosebumps throughout the whole entire video. Talk about a great story! Brilliant advertisement. Did those boys love their car or what?

THREE // Gray Malin x Sperry

There’s nothing that I love more than a good collaboration. Gray Malin’s line for Sperry is perfect!! I love his Central Park lawn photograph the most. One day I will own it! For now, I think the Sperrys will have to do! The umbrella sneaker is perfect for the summertime.

FOUR // 25+ Apps to Make Your Everyday Life Easier

A long list of awesome apps. Many of them I’ve never heard of. Will definitely be spending time going through the list and seeing if there are any must-haves for my own life! (PS Here are my favorite apps right now!)

FIVE // Quokka Selfies

Are these little guys not the cutest things you’ve ever seen. They are protected by law because they are endangered. While there are rules in place to not come in contact with them or feed them (the Nat Geo article explains more), they take an adorable selfie. Who’s in for a trip to Australia?

Anything fun on your radar this week?

Going to the dog park is an instant mood-improver for me! Although I have a Basset Hound, so I usually just watch other dogs play while mine looks sad at people she thinks will give her food.

I love going to a dog park, when I'm having a bad day, because you just couldn't help smiling at these sweet puppies playing with each other! Ultimate mood lift!

I'm also a morning peson, but a cup of coffee is still of one of these things I need in my morning routine, since it always makes me happier 🙂

On My Radar

There’s no better way to start a week then by skiing all weekend. We spent two days at Stowe and I really did figure out how to ski. Finally! It was like one moment I was pizza wedging down every slope and the next thing I knew I was cutting right down the slope. It was the greatest feeling. Even though it was 6 degrees with frozen snow falling, I could have stayed out there forever.
How insanely beautiful is that?! I love that real life snow globe feeling!
Don’t trust the 15 degrees overlay. We opened a bottle of Gatorade and it immediately slushed up and our phones kept shutting off from the cold. Frozen!!!
On my radar this week…

ONE // Tiny Hamster’s Tiny Date
With Valentine’s Day tomorrow, I had to include this video. Hamsters gross me out, but these hamsters are an exception. How freaking cute are they?! THEIR CHEEKS!!!

TWO // First Model with Down Syndrome to Walk at NYFW

How amazing is this? I love the idea of having all kinds of people walk down the runway, and this is just an incredible story! I think Jamie Brewer is a super talented actor (she’s in American Horror Story!) and this is a cool career trajectory for her. Have you heard of the organization Changing the Face of Beauty? I love it!!!!

THREE // “All of Me” Cover by Madison Tevlin

Another inspiring girl?! Madison Tevlin! I was in tears by the end of this video. Ah-mazing!!! You can absolutely hear and see all the hard work she put into the song; her passion absolutely shines throughout the whole video.

FOUR // 1980s Ski Wear

Where’s my Hot Tub Time Machine?! True story, Garrett and I bought a few pieces from Tuckernuc’s Vintage Ski collection and we look like we’re right out of this photo story! The onesie ski suits are just too hilarious.

FIVE // Higher Ground Sun Valley

Garrett introduced me to this organization that helps people of all abilities through adaptive sports. They have a specific program for wounded veterans. I noticed that they had an internship program and wanted to share with you all in case you were interested. It definitely sounds like an amazin, unique, and rewarding opportunity!

I am so jealous of your skiing weekend trip! Definitely making the most out of all this New England snow we've been getting. Skiing still scares me half to death as I slip and slide all over the place. On my radar this week has definitely been the Grammy's and Sam Smith! i have been watching interviews with him like crazy and think he is one of the most genuine celebs out there. So much love and respect for him. Hope you are having a wonderful time at NYFW.

I have been trying to learn how to ski but a few hours at a time is so hard! We are going for the whole weekend in a couple weeks and I'm really hoping it clicks like it did for you! Right now I'm pizza-ing the whole way down, too (and falling)!

On My Radar

How do you guys feel about Friday the Thirteenth? I’m pretty superstitious about a lot of things, but not really the day. Not much to report on the week… Kind of like the weather, it was kind of blah. (Which honestly has been a breath of fresh air! Love being able to take the days a bit slower and not rush around the city for meetings.)
I’ve been following Tavi’s career since she was 13. What I love about her is she didn’t let her precocious-fashion-blogger moment turn into simply fifteen minutes of fame– she’s really matured and grown with every year. Now she’s 18 and all signs are definitely pointing to the beginning of a very long and amazing career. This NY Times article is a great read and definitely inspiring! (Love that she’s a list-maker… girl after my own heart!)

TWO // Lennon and Maisy
I love this sister duo. (I definitely love a good conspiracy theory and I’m convinced that ABC released that one Youtube video after they were already casted, but before it was announced, to create some viral buzz… I digress…) This video is beyond adorable. Maisy is growing up and Miss Lennon is certainly growing up as well. A cute, kitschy family kind of video.

THREE // The College Prepster App!

It’s here! It’s here!!!! It’s super early, but I couldn’t wait to share it with everyone. More updates to come that will make it even better. Links within text to come (that’s personally driving me crazy) and a few other things that will make it even easier to read and navigate. A couple of hints: You can bookmark your favorite posts to read later (even without wifi or service!), you can share your favorite posts too, and don’t forget to swipe left and right between articles! (Only available for iPhones right now.)

FOUR // “All By Myself”

Y’all. This video. I was dying. This poor guy gets stuck in an airport overnight and he just cranks up the creativity. He filmed this completely by himself in the airport. I was crying with laughter… He was super innovative with the way he filmed. The escalator shots are particularly stellar.

FIVE // Monogrammed Chambray Blazer

Absolutely obsessed with this monogrammed chambray blazer from Two Penny Blue. They sent me one and it’s the perfect thing to throw on with a cute dress for chilly nights or with white jeans and wedges for a cute daytime look! The best part? For every blazer purchased, they donate a school uniform to a student in Africa.

I am generally a very superstitious person! However, I had my final math exam today and therefore I tried to ignore the fact that today was a Friday the Thirteenth. But actually, the number thirteen is a supposed to be considered a lucky number for jewish people and I am jewish, so that's a good thing!

Hahaha that video of the guy in the airport was hilarious! I can't believe he shot that all himself… pretty impressive. Also, the video of Lennon and Maisy is just too cute!

Also I've already downloaded the app and I love it!

I'm so excited about your app, I just downloaded it. And I'm not superstitious at all. I think Friday the 13th is probably one of my favorite days. Because it's super easy to convince my husband to have a scary movie night in with me.

On My Radar

This has been kind of a trying week. And not necessarily for any one reason. It’s kind of a many straws have led to a broken back. Sometimes I go a little bit too hard too fast and crash and burn. Unexpectedly. Or rather expectedly, I guess I just tend to ignore those little warning signs. A few late nights here, a couple of big decisions there, a handful of sour words, too much coffee, not enough actual nourishment.
Regardless, we have come to the end of yet another week. I think the calendar year is not unlike the rising and setting of the sun… The January morning is full of promise and hope and expectations and birth. June, July, and August are long and bright and stretch out lazily through the middle. And the November and December sunset sinks quicker and unforgivingly into the horizon closing a chapter and leaving memories tainted with regret behind.
2014 is only a skip away and I think I’ve been telling myself that I just need to get through the holidays and everything will be bright and hopeful in January again, new. We’ll see. This week was… slow and rough. Thank you friends and 24-hour diners. And thank you Internet for providing little distractions

Five things on my radar this week, four videos and one very, very long article. But it’s well worth a read and it’s beautiful.
This is a really amazing piece. The NYT, of course, rawly captures a slice of the city. It’s broken up into five separate chapters, and they take a bit to get through… but so worth it.

TWO // Daughter of Deaf Parents Signs the Entire Christmas Pageant

This popped up on the Today show and it’s absolutely charming. This tiny girl has stage presence and hams it up. Oh, and she signs every word of every song for her deaf parents in the audience. I cried. It’s such a sweet display of intense love.

THREE // If Only for a Second

This is sheer brilliance. Honestly. At first when I saw the photos I was confused… but it’s really such an inspiring idea. Basically, the foundation gives cancer patients “makeovers.” They believe it will be just like any regular makeover, but the looks are wild and crazy! When the look is revealed, they forget about having cancer… if only for a second. The reactions are priceless. Watch the full video!

FOUR // Trick Shot Titus

Who is this kid and what do they feed him?! I don’t know what’s cuter… the way he throws the ball with all his might (nonchalantly) or the entire family’s reactions. Precious.

FIVE // … The Best PR/Marketing… Ever.

No one likes airlines and all the airlines are fighting for our love. (Sometimes I just want to LOL at it all.) Rapping and dancing in the flight safety video or ridiculously corny jokes on the intercom will not cut it for me. However, this might just be the best video ever. Surprises. Santa. And a good dose of Christmas cheer.

Find anything great on the Internet this week?

I absolutely love those "if only for a second" pictures! I didn't understand it all until I watched the video, but that was way cool!

As someone who has worked with many children who communicate by signing, that first video just stole my heart. I also really love the makeover idea. I know my mom got her makeup done during treatment and little things like that (though I always wonder about the carcinogens in makeup, but what doesn't have them anymore?) really help lift the spirits of those fighting and attitude totally matters when dealing with life-threatening illness. Lastly, point one for my home country (WestJet and I are both proudly Canadian). That was such a cute idea and, as you mentioned, brilliant marketing (much of which is free because of the sharing on social media).
