On My Radar

Guys. This week. THIS WEEK. The long story short is that I fell extremely ill on Friday night. We figured out that it was norovirus because Garrett got it on Monday, but for some reason, my body was just not into it in a big way.
After I dropped Julia off at the airport, I was facing bumper to bumper traffic all the way back to Connecticut and I sat in the car listening mentally listing off everything I had to do for the next week. I have so much going on personally and professionally and I’m not sure that I have ever been under this much concentrated stress. And then I thought those fateful words, “Things couldn’t feel worse.” It was dramatic and obviously not true. What happened seven short hours? A lot of “worse.”
I got super sick in the middle of the night (I’ll spare you the details), but thankfully Garrett was home and heard me faint. He normally works overnights on Friday so it’s a major blessing that he was home and able to help me. I took a shower, went back to bed. And then Garrett heard me fall again an hour later and found me having a seizure on the floor with two worried dogs protecting me. So he zipped me into a jacket and walked me to the car. I kind of remember asking him where we were going (I was out of it) and when he responded saying the hospital, I thought the fateful words again. “Okay, things really couldn’t get worse.” And wouldn’t you know, we got hit by a drunk driver on the way to the hospital!!! Everyone was okay and there was no serious damage to the car.
I passed out at the hospital a few times, threw up even more times, went through three bags of fluids, had a bad EKG test, slept for 26 hours once I was home, fainted in a store a couple days later, and now I finally (finally) feel back to my normal self. Nothing like a little health scare to remind you to be extra thankful for when you are healthy! Counting my blessings for sure.
I spent most of the week recovering and catching up. And I hosted a big party with Lesportsac and Teen Vogue this week too!

Now onto the fun stuff… all videos this week 😉

ONE // Zombie Apocalypse Prank

Honestly this is the funniest video ever. What I wouldn’t do to be a fly on the wall at that family’s dinner! They seem so fun and close. These two older brothers convince their sister that there’s a zombie outbreak after she’s had her wisdom teeth out. And then they went on Ellen and that video was almost as funny!

TWO // Why Do Moms Matter?

Don’t watch this one without a tissue or two nearby! So, so incredibly sweet. Love a good video about moms.

THREE // How to Look After a Sad Person

You may find this video dumb, but for some reason I thought it was the cutest. It made me smile, even on a day when I was feeling a little sad (and sick).

FOUR // Beau Dermott on Britain’s Got Talent

Wow. Just wow this girl is ridiculously talented. I can’t wait to see more of her singing on this show… and to see how her career develops. She’s for sure going to have a great career– Broadway here she comes! I got goosebumps through the whole video. Also every time they panned the camera to her mom or dad, I cried. How proud they have to be!

FIVE // Interview with McKayla Maroney

While recovering this weekend, I got into a deep hole on Youtube with gymnastics videos. I ended up on this McKayla Maroney interview and I was really impressed. It’s interesting to learn more about the person (and personality) behind the gymnast. It’s truly fascinating! And even if you’re not a gymnast, she definitely has some interesting perspectives about being a young female athlete in general.

I’m really looking forward to this weekend– it’s supposed to hit 70 degrees! Any fun plans?!

I went through the same thing with Norovirus, twice! Pro tip: pass out at the admitting desk in the ER, they get you a bed right away!

Oh I don't remember even getting into the hospital. One second I was in the ambulance and then I woke up with like 30 people standing over me bahah!

Hah! Yeah, I remember waking up in triage slumped over in a wheelchair (last I knew I was standing) and a whole lot of people were staring at me. I've learned to wear cute pajamas when sick, you never know when a whole lot of people will see you in them.

oh my gosh you poor thing!! That really was scary to read I am so sorry that happened to you. You look fabulous at the lesportsac event though so you literally can't even tell!! Notoviruses are nothing to mess with- I had one in college and was almost hospitalized too!! So glad Garrett was there for you! xx Ash

On My Radar

After an amazing weekend and a bit of post-holiday travel, I was so looking forward to a week of rolling up my sleeves and getting back into a regular routine. And then I woke up Monday morning with a stomach bug. It wasn’t the worst in the world, but every few hours I was curled up on the floor. So… yay. Luckily it was pretty much gone 48 hours later and I’m feeling better now.
I typically only get really sick about once a year, so hopefully this was my one sickness for the year and I can check it off for 2016. That’s how this works… right?
Anyway, plenty of ginger ale was had this week…

Here’s what has been on my radar this week:

ONE // Stephen Hawking’s Advice for Depression

I loved this beautiful advice for people suffering from depression. It’s a simple and elegant sentiment.

TWO // AcCounting Your Points

One of my friends from high school just started a blog about credit card points and maximizing your rewards. My dad encouraged me to get a credit card in college and it was one of the best pieces of advice ever. A goal of mine for the year is to be more financially savvy. I have my actual finances in order, but I want to kick it up a notch and make sure I’m making the most of my money and earning potential beyond the basic earning/spending. I think I’ll do a post a little down the road about this, but for now, my friend’s blog has some great advice if you’re just getting started.

(Side note: if you don’t have a credit card. Get one ASAP…. and use it like a debit card, paying off every month in full. It’s so important to start building your credit. When you want to make a big purchase, you’ll want to have a good credit score. Even though I had been using a credit card for a few years and paid it off every month in full, when I checked my credit score last year for something it came back almost perfect… The only thing taking points away? I didn’t have enough credit!!!)

THREE // Dean Strang

Making a Murderer on Netflix is sweeping the nation! Last week I mentioned that Garrett and I were just getting into it and now we’re fully hooked. Every time Steven Avery’s attorney Dean Strang came on the screen, we’d both say how great we thought he was. He just seemed to have the right intentions, from a professional, personal, and human level. Looks like we’re not the only ones obsessed with Dean Strang, he’s like the breakout star of the Netflix series apparently.

FOUR // Adele Carpool Karaoke

Harry Styles said it best in this tweet, “Brilliant. One of the worlds greatest ever voices. She was good too.” This is such an amazing clip of Adele and James Corden. These carpool videos get better and better with every celebrity!

FIVE // 5 Week Old Puppies Swim for the First Time

I love ending these posts with sweet puppies and these must be the sweetest ever! They’re so adorable as they swim around and plop into the water. I do have one question though: how do I sign up to swim with them???

Anything fun on your radar this week?

Gosh, I'm glad you're feeling better! I love the Adele Carpool Karaoke video too, but I especially appreciate your words about getting financially savvy, too! I'm graduating college this upcoming June, so I feel like it's well time I start figuring out my expenses, as well. Great post!

On My Radar

Earlier this week, I had the chance to see a preview of Pitch Perfect 2. Oh, my, goodness. Hilarious. I loved the first one so I kind of had standards for this one and it didn’t disappoint. It’s definitely a sequel, but the jokes are too funny and the singing is great! I went alone and couldn’t stop laughing awkwardly by myself.
This weekend Garrett and I will be doing some last minute prepping for our trip to Alaska! We leave Monday… I couldn’t be more excited and I couldn’t be more nervous. This is going to be the most outdoorsy I’ve ever been so we’ll see how this goes!
On my radar this week…

I’ve taken a handful of SoulCycle of classes (mostly to support my friend Hallie! woo!) and I totally get how people can get addicted to this. I saw this story about Jordan, a young teenager who’s been fighting cancer for years, floating around and sobbed my way through it. Incredible, really.
Paper (one of my favorite iPad apps!) just released a new series of tools. This takes your brainstorming to new levels. It turns your iPad into a whiteboard, essentially. But with way, way, way more functionality!
THREE // Lily Drone
I want a drone so badly. I mean, I don’t really know what I would do with a drone exactly, but I think it would just be fun to have and mess around with. Now, I’ve done some research on them in the past. This camera, however, BLOWS the competition out of the water!! It just makes me so excited to know that the future is, like, here.
These are some great nuggets of advice from Fast Company on how to make yourself unforgettable!

Have you been tying your running shoe laces the wrong way?! I know I have. I had no idea what the extra hole was for and now it all makes so much sense!!!

Lily Camera has been on my radar as well! Could it be the future of vlogging? 😛 I admit, it could be a little overboard, but for people who make their living off of vlogging, maybe the idea isn't so crazy. // Also loving the tips from FastCompany! -Audrey | Brunch at Audrey's

Thank you for sharing Jordan's and Larry's story, lady! (And, of course, for being so supportive of me during my journey.) I have that one bookmarked and I read it at least twice a week… So inspiring and heartwarming.

Have fun in Alaska! Breakfast date when you're back. x

Those gummies look delicious and I still haven't seen Pitch Perfect 2 yet, but I hope to see it while I'm here in Prague! The Lily Drone sounds really interesting and that last article about how to properly tie running shoes sort of blew my mind a little bit – that will be super helpful, especially while walking on all of this cobblestone!

On My Radar

Of course, I couldn’t do this week’s On My Radar without mentioning Robin Williams. There are countless articles and posts and videos out there, but I loved this one from Huffington Post. I really do believe that while the post shares some lesser known things about him, it highlights his character to a huge extent. What a man. Mrs. Doubtfire, Dead Poets Society, and Bicentennial Man are my personal favorite movies of his… which ones are your favorites?

TWO // Little People Big World Returns

I love the Roloff family! They’re coming back with a new season… and Jeremy is proposing to his girlfriend. The teaser is super adorable of Jeremy and Zach discussing the upcoming proposal. I’ll be interested to see how the show progresses as the kids are, well, not really kids anymore! Anyone else a fan of the show?

THREE // The Glamorous Life of a White House Journalist

These two photos are crazy on the Washington Post. It’s pretty incredible to see the amazing photograph of Obama… and what it took to get the shot! Talk about a stressful job and having serious talent behind the lens.

FOUR // Ninj & Ninj Agenda

I like the organization of agendas and every year I end up with a few extras. One year, I took an agenda I wasn’t using for planning and turned it into a line-a-day journal. I should note again, I’m not a good journaler so sometimes I would skip days/nights and if I was traveling I wouldn’t bring it with me. But, being able to get one or two thoughts down before falling asleep has been helpful. A bite-sized commitment to journaling. Ninj & Ninj sent me this one with “The Best Is Yet To Come” on the cover. I love that phrase and it definitely makes for a good journal… or agenda… or whatever! (It also comes in a regular notebook!)

FIVE // Super Stylish 9-year-old CEO

This kid is not only ridiculously stylish… he’s a great entrepreneur! Almost too much cuteness to handle. His company is Mr. Cory’s Cookies– but it’s his Instagram that is perfect. Check out this kid. Glasses, Starbucks, and one of his cookies. Brilliance.

That shot of Obama is crazy! Who would have thought there was that much craziness behind the press in the White House… I would have thought it would be way more civilized. Mrs. Doubtfire was one of my favorite movies as a child and I have loved reading all these facts about Robin Williams. He actually grew up where I live which is pretty cool! The ALS ice bucket challenge has been on my radar lately.

Oh my gosh #3 is HILARIOUS! Sometimes notebooks that are too pretty aren't good for me, because then I never work up the nerve to mar its beauty with my pen marks! Wow #5, that kid is destined for great things 🙂 -Audrey | Brunch at Audrey's

I used to think highly of Georgetown. I've been reading your blog for several months now and your lack of proofreading is embarrassing. My opinion of Georgetown, Levo League, and Plant High School is now very low thanks to you.

I love the Roloff Family! I started watching their show years ago when it first started, but had no idea they were coming back for another season, so thank you!

Love your blog–I've been a reader since '09 but this is my first comment. I just moved to the UES, so I'm loving your NYC guide. xo
