On My Radar

Our apartment is slowly but surely coming together. We have a few pieces of furniture and the internet is set up, although it seems like there are minor issues for everything. The internet disconnecting every twenty minutes, a damaged piece of furniture delivered, difficult assembly! Sheesh! I will say, the easiest and best thing to be delivered this week was our new mattress. 4Sleep sent me an email earlier this year but we weren’t ready to upgrade our mattress. Our bedroom now fits a bigger bed so a bigger mattress was in order! 4Sleep sent a mattress (made in America!) for us to test out. I was skeptical about a mattress in a box, but it’s amazing. And way fun to open!!! It feels 400x more comfortable than the old mattress + topper we had.
I can’t wait for everything to come together completely! In the meantime, you can follow along on Snapchat (collegeprepster) for lots of behind the scenes videos and photos.
Now, here’s what’s been on my radar this week:

ONE // TV Reporter Makes Pre-K Student Cry

I’m super sensitive about back to school. I can’t think about it without crying. (Seriously, ask Garrett about my breakdown in the Chipotle a couple of weeks ago…) This video though was borderline sweet and sad. This little guy is trying so hard to keep it together with a smile on his face. I just wanted to hug him!

TWO // Chloe Won!

You know I love Dance Moms 😉 I’m not even going to lie, I’ve been going online to vote for Chloe for the Teen Choice Awards Choice Dancer…. I was so excited to hear that she won. The best part was her acceptance speech. I thought she handled the pressure with poise and shared a great message!

THREE // Kitchen Help Collection

Garrett found this collection of kitchen infographics and shared with me. It has basically everything you could need or want to know! Now that I have a real kitchen to work with, I’m excited to be getting more cooking and baking in.

FOUR // Faribault Pak-A-Robe

These packable stadium blankets are amazing! The blankets themselves are gorgeous and the way they fold up to double as a seat cushion is brilliant.

FIVE // The Disease of Being Busy

I’ve read a number of articles that don’t like the word busy. In fact, I do my best to try to avoid the word (although I know I still say it!). I love the message of this post though. Don’t ask someone “how they’re doing” ask them how their heart is!

Anything good on your radar?

I was so excited when I figured out that Chloe won! Dance Moms has never seemed the same without her!

Do you still recommend this mattress? Shopping for a new mattress for my senior year of college, hoping it’ll last me a few years post graduation as well. These boxed mattresses seem really convenient, but hesitant they won’t be as comfortable.

On My Radar

It’s been a full week trying to get tie up loose ends here before heading back to Florida for the holidays. Teddy and I are flying to Tampa Saturday afternoon and will be there for a full week. Really can’t even tell you how excited I am… especially for the warm weather and sunshine! Packing is SO weird though… I swear, I have to go into a completely different mindset to pull clothes out of my closet.
Wearing: Sequin Top + White Skirt + Grey Suede Pumps (c/o Ann Taylor) and BaubleBar necklace (c/o)
One of the more exciting things that happened was a photoshoot of apartment for Style Me Pretty Living. To be honest, I’ve been hesitant to do one of these “published” apartment tours. I think the photos are going to turn out great and I think they’re a really great thing to use as inspiration. BUT THEY ARE NOT REAL LIFE. Like, at all. It’s pretty staged and all of my “real life clutter” was moved into my bathtub. In fact, my kitchen table wasn’t photographed because there’s currently a printer on it and boxes of organized clothes for upcoming blog posts. So next time you see beautiful photos on Pinterest, just picture a bathtub full of real life 😉
Although, I do obsessively make my bed every morning… so that’s pretty accurate below.
Wallpaper: Anthropologie; Bookshelf: Container Store; Bedding: Crane and Canopy (c/o); Pillows: Caitlin Wilson Textiles (c/o) & Kate Spade
Onto my radar (lots of videos I think you’ll love!):

ONE // Kids in trouble, dad can’t stop laughing
This is going to be me as a parent. I don’t think I’ll be able to keep a straight face half the time. I think the best part of this video are the kids’ eyes… they’re just so guilty.
There was this article floating around my Georgetown friends’ Facebook pages. It must have been texted to me about six times, too! Jack the Bulldog (Georgetown’s mascot) is killing it on Instagram. Whoever is in charge of his account deserves a raise and a great recommendation letter! I feel like anyone can appreciate this account, even if you’re not a Hoya, because he really is a cute dog! (And then there’s this one… ha.)

THREE // Puppies climbing stairs
Okay, well… while we’re talking about dogs… I loved this video!!! There was a solid month when Teddy could not walk up or down the stairs. Even after he learned, he would sometimes topple over legs over head! (This was a BIG day!) The cutest part of this video is the older dogs teaching the pups… my heart!
Need outfit inspiration for the cooler months? This is such a good round up of New Yorkers’ style right now. And unlike some of the crazier weeks, these are all pretty normal outfits anyone can pull off. Instant chic!

FIVE // Idina Menzel and Michael Buble
A) this is one of my favorite holiday songs B) Idina Menzel is brilliant C) the video could not be cuter. Enjoy!

Annie

I just died of laughter watching those little kids covered in paint! The Idina Menzel and Michael Buble song has been on repeat. I love it. Also, Pitch Perfect 2 trailer came out yesterday and it is amazing! Can't wait for it:)

I am in love with your outfit and also the wallpaper in your room! I've been scouting around for a good pattern for a feature wall in my room and never thought to do floral until I saw yours – adorable! As for what's on my radar, I stumbled across this article about "The Best Part Of Life Is Realizing Why It’s Better That Things Didn’t Work Out" and it was a good insightful read!

Love the honesty about the apartment shoot… good to know I'm not the only one that just can't get rid of some of that "real life" clutter! I'm sure it will turn out great though! Have a great time home in FL!

Hi Carly! I'm from Florida too – Miami – and live in CT after moving from the UWS last year. Don't you find it SO hard to pack for going home?! Would love to know what you pack – I'm eight years living up here and I'm still so befuddled when I need to switch back to FL packing!!!

On My Radar

Did anyone else’s week fly by?! One minute it’s Tuesday morning and I’ll dragging myself out of bed and the next minute it’s FRIDAY!
I think the best thing about this week is that I had so much fun really every single day. Is there anything better than that? Nope! Rebecca and I had a lot of fun taking photos for the blog, I visited the new Warby Parker store on the Upper East Side (around the corner from my apartment!), grabbed dinner with college friends, had the best girls’ night out on Wednesday, was interviewed for Huffington Post Live with my mom, test drove Fiats with Garrett, and…
Tonight I’m heading to Buffalo, NY with Tony Walker! I’ll be in the store on Saturday doing little styling sessions and also giving a mini-seminar with tips for Instagram and blogging. The store is located at 5110 Main Street, Williamsville, NY and I’ll be there starting at noon… Hope to see you there!!!
*****
And now for everything on my radar from this week.
ONE // Andrei Linde’s Physics Breakthrough

I found this video to be absolutely amazing. I can’t imagine working on something and believing something for years and years (more than thirty!) and finally finding out that it’s been proven true. His reaction was so perfectly sweet. It’s also an amazing testament to sticking with something when you believe it to be true and not giving up!

Confession, I’m totally one of those girls who wanted to be a ballerina when she grew up. Sheesh, I still want to be a ballerina when I grow up. (Ha!) I switched dance studios in sixth grade to this intense ballet one. After one class with a live piano and hours of standing at the barre getting screamed at in French about my rib cage… I was kind of over it. (I think I wanted the tutus and pointe shoes and not the work…) These pictures by the NYT are gorgeous, but not the overly glam looking ballet photos I’m used to. Inspiring!

Might be the best thing to happen to the internet this week. Erica fell for a guy on her flight and turned to Twitter to search for him. With only his first name and the flight number, she tried getting American Air to help her in her quest. Stylist captured the whole exchange (so funny!).
FOUR // Grandma Betty

Are you following Grandma Betty on Instagram yet? This firecracker of a grandma is fighting cancer and her grandson set her up with an Instagram account. She’s taking the internet by storm.
FIVE // Elementary School Choir Covers “Happy”
Well, this simply makes me happy! Love these kids. Wish my chorus days were more fun! (… these are the types of songs we did… I’m the first soloist HAHA.)
Let me know if I’ll see you at Tony Walker!!

I was born in Buffalo, My sister used to work there! Williamsville is mostly suburban/commercial – can I highly recommend checking out the Elmwood Village/Allentown area of the city? Voted one of the ten best neighborhoods in the US and such a gem in such an underrated city. Designed by the same guy who did Central Park!

HAHA well done on your solo. I love Sun in the Morning…it's from Annie Get Your Gun, which was the first musical I was ever in (age 8). I knew from day one that this was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. Lucky that it's kind of worked out that way 🙂

On My Radar

Monday was President’s Day and some people had the day off of work. I decided to take a half day and it was the perfect way to start the week. One thing I’ve learned since working for myself is that no one is going to tell you to take time off… it’s up to me. I’ve finally incorporated real weekends into my life and vacation days and even sick days! (And mental health days, which I consider the most important!!!) Really, it’s changed my entire outlook on work and gives me the best breaks to relax and decompress. Sometimes it’s hard to remember to take a break (my brain says, “work work work!!!”), but then I remind myself that when I’m rested I work more efficiently.
This is all to say… breaks are good. Even if they’re little ones… like reading this edition of On My Radar 😉

Honestly, I wouldn’t say that I watched PBS Kids all that much growing up… but apparently I did. Because almost all of these were extremely accurate. I mean, Zoom was legitimately the best kids programming on TV. True Story: I hated one year of dance class because it meant I couldn’t watch the show a couple of times a week. Also, Arthur? Loved it. I can still hear: “And now a word from us kids!” crystal clearly in my head.

Maybe I just have vacation on my mind or maybe my Wanderlust is kicking back in, but I went through this slideshow about six times. (And added a few more places to my ever-growing travel wishlist.) I’m definitely not a photographer, but I love reading about all of their favorite spots… and the way in which they capture the destinations. The clothesline picture is my favorite!

PERFECTION. I simply cannot get over how perfect the entire look book is and how adorable the entire new collection is. I’ll take one of each, please. Oh! I just love it all:

FOUR // Google Hot Trends

One of my friends tweeted about Google Hot Trends earlier this week and wow! It’s so fascinating. Watch it for a bit then come back later and see what’s trending again. Be prepared to be kind of mesmerized. It essentially shows what most people are searching for at that exact moment. Can’t get enough.

FIVE // Front Row to Fashion Week

Couldn’t make it to fashion week? No problem. The NY Times has you covered. Get a front row seat to view some of the top shows. Personally, I prefer it over watching the shows live! Oh, also… did you see Tory Burch’s show? I watched it from my computer and loved it.

What’s been on your radar this week?

I was a huge fan of Zoom! I even sang "02134" in my head as soon as I saw that picture! I love your blog, and I'm excited to follow along!

Since I started freelancing three years ago and now, as my business is taking off, I find it harder and harder to stop working. I have to force myself to go to bed and to take breaks on the weekends. I love that I get to live my passion everyday, though.

I don't know if I love or hate that you shared about Google Trends. It is so cool! I got lost for a good long time looking for other cool Google things I didn't know about.

I actually kind of teared up reading the little PBS Kids article– my grandmother used to only receive channel 6 (PBS) and a few others due to the distance of her house from town. Anyhow, I spent almost every day of my childhood with her out at her house. I LOVED these shows so much! Thank you for posting this, it brought back a lot of great memories of my grandma and childhood– I appreciate it! <3
