On My Radar

This has been a great week! My mom and dad came into town and I’ve been having the best time showing them around. We even made a trip out to Fishkill Farms again for a little apple picking and pumpkin picking. I would honestly go every day if I had the chance. We had the windows of the car rolled down and it just felt so peaceful and crisp. If only I could bottle that feeling up in a jar and save it for a bad day down the road.

Here’s what was on my radar this week…

ONE // Smarties Is Thriving

This is a really inspiring article about the women running the retro Smarties brand. I had no idea about the company so it was cool to read that it’s a family run business with three Gen Yers currently at the helm, all granddaughters of the founder. Makes me want to go stock up on Smarties!

TWO // The Town of Giethoorn

I have officially added Giethoorn to my travel bucket list. I was dying over the photos. Instead of paved roads, the entire town gets around little canals. When I raced at Henley, we trained long hours every day and I used to love rowing through neighborhoods on the water. So idyllic. This is how I want to retire or something!!!

THREE // 7 Delicious Popcorn Toppings

Popcorn is one of my favorite snacks. I can’t get enough. I want to try a bunch of these popcorn combos… especially the Lucky Charms marshmallow one. (I mean, who knew you could BUY the marshmallows. Like, no cereal. Just marshmallows. IN BULK. #addstocart.)

FOUR // The Rise of Rifle Paper Co

This is a wonderful profile on Anna Bond and her company Rifle Paper Co. I have long been obsessed with Rifle Paper Co… I first blogged about it back in 2012! As a fan, I think it’s been wonderful to see how big the company has grown.

FIVE // Bindi Irwin’s DWTS Tribute to her Father

You’ve been warned… do not watch this in public. Remember Bindi Irwin, Steve Irwin’s tiny and adorable sidekick? She’s grown up into a gorgeous young woman and currently competing on Dancing With the Stars. Her dance this week was in memory of her father and, whoa, it hit me in the feels. I was a puddle throughout this entire video. It’s so moving. The dance is so beautiful and truly perfect if you ask me.

Oh my goodness. The entire clip of Bindi from the start of the package to the end of judging had me in tears. So beautiful in a heartbreaking way. She's truly amazing and has a heart of gold.

Popcorn is my favorite food (even made it a wedding favor), and I promptly ordered those marshmallows as soon as I saw the link. No shame. Can't wait to mix them with popcorn and maybe make homemade brownies with them, too!

On My Radar

I’ve decided the absolute best way to ring in the New Year is to get out of town. Apparently, I chose the best week to do just that with temperatures in NYC absolutely plummeting the day I left for Caneel Bay. (You can check out sneak peeks of my trip so far on Instagram, I’ll be sharing tons of photos later here once I have them all rounded up.)
The day before I left was a day of what I consider “pretty snow.” I feel like snow in NYC is absolutely magical… while it’s falling. Once it’s on the ground and turns to a brown sludge? Not so much. You have to soak up that inside-a-snow-globe feeling as best as you can because it’s over a bit too fast.
Two views from inside Central Park.
I love this photos because you can see the HUGE flakes. Truly breathtaking to just walk around.

I’m sharing only a few things that has been on my radar this week while I’m on vacation….

ONE // A moving video…

I found this to be an incredibly moving video. I’ve seen some debate about it on Facebook, but when you consider the real issue of domestic violence, it’s just a simple message with a big message. According to statistics, 1 in 4 women will experience domestic violence…

TWO // 13 Life Hacks

Okay, I couldn’t stop laughing while reading this. Right before Christmas, there was this Youtube video circling with the strangest life hacks. Most of the hacks were for problems that I didn’t know existed; I certainly had never had a problem with them at least. Needless to say, I loved the ones on this list! Ha!

THREE // Forbes’ 30 Under 30 List

Ending on a motivational note, the Forbes’ 30 Under 30 list was released. There are actually quite a number of lists so there are plenty of people to inspire you. I definitely spent a lot of time going through everything and clicking over to websites to learn more about the products and innovations. This is the perfect inspiration, in my opinion, to kick into full gear for the year!

Anything good on your radar this week? Hope everyone is staying warm!

Shouldn't hit her not because she's a girl but because she's a person and people shouldn't slap each other, regardless of whether they're male or female! Those boys are so cute and so sweet though :') -Audrey | Brunch at Audrey's

I love those life hacks posts/videos. They are so funny and I've actually found them to be pretty useful (like putting my iPhone in a cup to amplify the sound when I don't have my speaker nearby.) Hope you're enjoying your vacation!

On My Radar

This week was less about work for me and more about spending time with friends and family. I didn’t hate it… Not one bit!
I had the most wonderful time in Tampa with my family. Teddy had an amazing trip too. He loved having a big house to explore and a back yard full of adventure. (He didn’t love the heat though.) Spending time with my sister as she starts a new chapter of her life is so exciting and having everyone in the family all together is so special as time goes on. I get really emotional leaving Tampa (every time), but luckily I had wonderful people waiting for me in the city… like Maxie! She’s back in the United States and I’m so glad I got back in time for a dinner with her while she’s in NYC.
I think my days of constant traveling are over for the time being. I don’t really have any major trips planned for about two months and that’s really quite a huge relief. I’m excited for weekends in the city and enjoying the (hopefully!) nice weather. And hopefully I can get my family up here soon; I do start to miss them!
… Now, what’s on my radar for the week:
ONE // Matt Saracen Wedding

Oh hey… Friday Night Lights fans raise your hands! Zach Gilford gave full hearts a whole new meaning with his beautiful wedding. The wedding is absolutely one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen. And it’s super easy to use your imagination and pretend Matt Saracen is getting married! (Omg and LANDRY was there too!)

TWO // Leaked Hannah Montana Song
Truth be told, I was (and am) a huge Hannah Montana fan. Literally, loved it when it was on TV. I’m pretty sure I knew every single line and dance move. (And I was certainly too old for it.) I dressed up like Hannah Montana for a yearbook thing too– complete with blonde wig. This song, that was never used for the show, is super raw… and kind of ridiculous… which makes it, in my opinion, pretty amazing. Warning: It’s incredibly catchy in a “Call Me Maybe” kind of way.

THREE // Emma Stone Interview

Typically, I’m not into celebrity interviews. Sometimes I’ll read a feature store in a magazine but I generally don’t get sucked into the stories or Q&A’s. This interview with Emma Stone though is amazing. Super simple and to the point, but I think what Emma has to say about body image and being true to yourself rings incredibly true. One of my favorite quotations: “The best advice I ever got was: ‘stay irrepressibly true to yourself and be tenacious about finding ways to manifest the truest form of you.’”

FOUR // 13 Ways French Women Treat Themselves Right

We can all agree that French women seem to have all of life’s secrets figured out, right? Actually, regardless of whether or not you believe that, this article has 13 amazing tips for living a full and happy life. Incredibly simple when you see it all laid out like this, but I know there are quite a number of things I personally can be better about. I tried to pick a favorite, but I literally couldn’t. All 13 tips are great.

FIVE // Konjac Sponge

Have you guys heard of konjac sponges? For some reason, they’ve been popping up on my radar in the past few weeks. (Kind of like the oil pulling, but I’d actually be willing to try these sponges!) Maxie was finally the one to really convince me and now I can’t wait for my next trip to Sephora. Refinery 29 shared some great information about what makes the konjac sponge so special… I’m all about hopping on this band wagon.

What’s on your radar this week?

PS I’m adding a bonus. If you’re trying to learn Photoshop, but don’t want to spend money on classes and get bored watching videos on Youtube (they can be so dry)… You have to watch some of these “You Suck at Photoshop” videos. They’re a bit crass, but oh my! they are funny. Garrett showed me one and then we proceeded to watch three more. I couldn’t stop laughing! (And he really does do a good job of explaining how to do things!)

Emma Stone seems wonderful. She seems quite bright, and she alwasy manages to phrase important things simply so they sound like common sense. Congrats on the end of your heavy travel period!
