THE PRODUCTS I USE ON MY HAIR RIGHT NOW

I am finally sitting down to write what products I have been using for my hair. This is the best my hair has ever been. I do not have Good Hair™️. In fact, for as long as I can remember I’ve been battling my hair in one way or another. As a baby, I was pretty bald. Then I had curly hair and my mom cut bangs (!!!). In elementary school I had a Karen haircut. At the end of middle school I fried my hair when I discovered The Chi and would wake up before 6am to blow dry and straighten my hair. My hair is going grey. My hair doesn’t like any moisture in the air and is unpredictable.

But now at 35, I’m kind of experiencing my best hair yet due to this regimen which I’ve been tweaking and perfecting for the past couple of years. I say all this to acknowledge that I’m never going to be a hair model, but this is REALLY GOOD for me and I’m happy with it. Not only does my hair look its best, it also is its healthiest. It’s so strong and long and growing at a great rate from what I can tell. (Even with postpartum hair loss and regrowth!)

So let’s dive in!

IN THE SHOWER:

I find that my hair feels and looks best when I rotate through two or three shampoos. Right now, I’m loving the mix I have, which is why I wanted to share this post now. I pretty much wash my hair every other day and rotate through.

Head & Shoulders: Not exciting, but I always use Head & Shoulders 1x a week at least. It really does the best job keeping my scalp healthy. I’ve tried other dandruff shampoos and I always end up coming back to Head & Shoulders. My hair is dark and shows every single flake, so keeping my scalp healthy is crucial. The almond oil is my favorite.

Goop Himalayan Salt Scrub Shampoo: THIS. SHAMPOO. IS. THE. BEST. I swear by it. If you’re only influenced to try one thing from this post, make it this. The way this shampoo makes my hair look incredible with minimal effort. If I have something to do that day where I need to look my best, like an event or a photoshoot, I make sure that it’s the day during the week where I use this. I use this once maybe twice a week. It can dry your hair out so when I use it, I make sure to follow it up with this hydrating hair mask on my ends. I know the price is hefty, but since it’s not meant for every day use I’ve found it lasts a long time and even then, it’s worth every penny for these results. (Mike actually loves it too!)

Crown Affair Ritual Shampoo + Conditioner: It looks like the exact ones that I have are discontinued (or renamed?) but I am loving Crown Affair’s shampoo and conditioner. It smells so good and just works the way you want a shampoo and conditioner to work. My hair feels so clean and shiny after using.

Filtered Shower Head: We switched our shower head last year and I swear it makes a huge difference for my hair and skin. Big fan and I have found it to be worth it.

PRE-BLOW DRY:

This is probably the “category” where I’ve experimented the most. I like to mix things up every now and then. Right now I’m using and liking:

Roz Root Lift Spray: I’m obsessed with the way this smells. And I think it’s nice to use right before blow drying. My hair has so much volume and texture when it dries naturally, but when I blow it dry it tends to go completely flat. (Honestly it seems to defy logic!) I spray this on my roots everywhere and flip my head over to run my fingers through my hair and make sure it’s all distributed.

Roz Milk Hair Serum: If I feel like my hair is dry or the weather doesn’t seem great for my hair (too dry = static, too humid = friz), I’ll use this on my ends to help tame the situation.

BLOW DRY:

My blow dry routine has not changed in years. 90% of the time, I use the Dyson hair dryer with a round brush. I’ve gotten so good at blow drying my hair, that I can go from wet to completely dry in under 15 minutes. My thirteen year old self who spent an hour blow drying and straightening every morning would be shook. The other 10%, when I have more time in the morning, I use the Airwrap. I LOVE how my hair looks when I use the Airwrap, it just takes a bit too long most days for me.

That’s it! I’ve been so happy with this routine! Would love to know if there’s a product you swear by or if you’ve tried any of the products I mentioned and what you think.

I love this post, I’m trying to land in good hair era in 2025. Definitely going to try the root lift. Unrelated question to hair, please share details on your top!

My husband recently started using flakes shampoo and it transformed his scalp seemingly overnight. Dandruff gone, plus it smells amazing

Hi Carly! How did you learn how to use a round brush with drying? Just trial-and-error? Thanks in advance!

I was on the fence with Roz products until now that you have convinced to try them. Thank you Carly for the recommendation.
