New Books (…what are you reading?)

I had the absolute best staycation this weekend for Memorial Day. Honestly, it was just what the doctor ordered. Even though NYC didn’t have the greatest of weather (certainly no Florida temperatures or sun!), I really enjoyed the excuse to stay in bed extra long.

Actually, it was also a great excuse to do one of my favorite things… explore Barnes and Noble. Of course, it’s super close to my apartment, so I find myself just “stopping in” to take a spin and then I walk out with a handful of books.

I can’t wait to get reading!

What books are next on your list?

xoxo

I'm just starting "Appetite for Life" which is a biography about Julia Child. I'm hoping to be done by June 4 so that I can read "Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns" as soon as it comes out!

I am reading Lone Wolf right now! I am super into it right now. You are right, Jodi Picoult always finds a way to make you think about hard topics.

I just read The Long Walk by Stephen King! It was the first book by him that I've ever read, but I really enjoyed it! Psychological and a pretty quick read, but so entertaining. Couldn't put it down!

I'm reading "Yoga Bitch" by Suzanne Morrison right now. It's hilarious. Next up is "The Geography of Bliss" by Eric Weiner. Then "Stern Men" by Elizabeth Gilbert. Then "Beautiful Ruins" by Jess Walter. Then lastly (for now) "Going Home: Jesus and Buddha as Brothers" by Thich Nhat Hanh.

I'm heading to the beach this weekend and am in dire need of a good read! I think I will go pick up "Girls In White Dresses" tomorrow. I also am attracted to a book by its cover and this one looks perfect!

I just bought "is everyone hanging out without me? (And other concerns)" by Mindy Kaling which I'm planning to read on my vacation next week! I got the sample on my ipad and was laughing hysterically within the first chapter; I'm super excited to read it!

I have been on a book buying binge lately. I just finished Gulp by Mary Roach (so funny!) and now I'm halfway through the Omnivore's Dilemma. Next up are French Kids Everything and A Thousand Splendid Suns. I also scored some fun coffee table books: Dancers among us (beautiful photographs!) and Tequila Mockingbird (a literary themed cocktail book).

I am reading Once Upon a Time, There was You by Elizabeth Berg right now and previously read Lisa Scottoline's new book, Don't Go. Don't Go was one of the best books I've read in a while and I definitely recommend it!

I'm reading "Les Miserables", and it's an absolute masterpiece! I'm adoring it! Next time..well, maybe I'm gonna pick something lighter 😛 I wanted to read "The age of innocence"…I don't know, anyway 😛 I have tons of books to read in my room xD
ps: judging the books by the covers is something I do too! I buy books with nice covers…One time I even bought a book just because I liked the title (it was Vanity fair xD Still haven't read it xD)

Can't wait for a review of "Girls in White Dresses"! I'm currently reading "Crazy Sexy Diet", which is definitely not in the same genre as the novels you picked up last weekend, but is a wonderful, inspirational read. You should definitely give it a try! 🙂

Next up on my list are Lean In, The Uncoupling, The Innocents, The Painted Girls and Wild. Thanks for the book recs!

You need to read The fault n our stars by John Greene. It is young adult (and I am old adult) but it is truly one of the best books I have ever ever read. You will LOVE it. In fact, if you e-mail me (on my sidebar)..you address I will send it to you.

You need to read ALL the John Green books! I read The Fault in Our Stars first (loved it!!) and then I read Looking for Alaska (also loved!!). Currently, I am reading An Abundance of Katherines, which is amazzinnggg, especially if you said you enjoy teen books. This is a teen read for sure, but can also be read at an adult level! I hope you find some of John Green books! He is definitely an author on the rise, if he has not "risen" already!! 🙂

I agree that John Green books are a must. But also, if you're looking for some nonfiction, The World Split Open by Ruth Rosen provides a great history of feminism in the U.S. from the 1950s through the mid-2000s. I think having that historical understanding helps contextualize why feminism is still important, and this book is really well written.

I'm about to start Paris in Mind, edited by Jennifer Lee. It's a compilation of different authors writing about Paris 🙂 If you want a good summer teen read, I would recommend Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins! 🙂

Just finished up the new Dan Brown book, Inferno. It's the next in the series about Robert Langdon. Lots of fast-paced drama with tidbits of history and an adventure through Europe. About to start either Bossypants or John Green's book, The Fault in Our Stars.

I devoured "Girls in White Dresses." I loved it. A great book for a 20-something. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

I loved The Round House by Louise Freidrich (i think). Way better than I expected. I'm reading the Paris Wife now and it was good at the beginning but now I'm stuck because it's so repetitive… I feel like I have to finish it though- do you usually finish books even if you don't like them?

"The Paris Wife" by Paula McLain is amazing! The narrator is Ernest Hemingway's first wife, Hadley, and it chronicles the rise and fall of their marriage.

Also, just saw Julia's comment above–I agree, it can get repetitive, but I think it's completely worth the read, and many of my friends also love the book.

Lone Wolf was AMAZING! You have to read The Storyteller next, I'm almost done with it and it's great. It's completely different from all of Picoult's other books and I love it!

Read Girls in White Dresses back in January and LOVED it. If you haven't already read it, I highly suggest "The Fault in Our Stars." It's an absolutely amazing book. I know you aren't huge into sports either, but "The Art of Fielding" is also an awesome book. The title makes it sound more like a sports book than it really is. Enjoy your new books!!
