Jodi Picoult is one of my favorite authors. If you haven’t read any of her books, you need to add at least a few to your reading list. Definitely read: The Pact, My Sister’s Keeper, Nineteen Minutes, and Plain Truth. That’s a pretty good starting point to get a feel for Picoult’s writing style. I’m not sure if it’s for everyone, but I still recommend giving it a try because if you love it, you really love it.
Her books always deal with an ethical dilemma, a moral issue, or Life with a capital L– or some combination of those three. She’s a smart writer without the books being over done; they’re very entertaining.
I will admit, some of her books captivated me more than others. The ones I initially listed are my favorites. I recently felt like I wasn’t able to fall in love with the stories and characters as much… and then I read Leaving Time.
Leaving Time is about a young girl who is searching for her missing mother, a researcher who studies elephant behavior. There is a lot about elephants in the book, and in true Jodi Picoult fashion, she really deep dives into elephants.
The book was going fine. I was enjoying it, plain and simple. I even googled a few elephant videos to get a better sense of that element of the book. I spent most of the day reading on Saturday; the pace was picking up and I was trying to deal with my terrible case of the winter blues so it was a great excuse to stay in bed and read. And then, at one point, I literally turned to Garrett and said, “Oh my god.” I could not put it down at that point.
It took me a long time to get into the book (because I was being a lazy reader, it had nothing to do with the book) and now I’m wishing I had committed to finishing it sooner. It’s really good. Not her best… but absolutely worth a read.
Do you have a favorite author?! Please share in the comments!

PS I started Yes Pleasethis weekend! Already a bit of the way in and loving it!
Jodi Picoult is a great author – I haven't read "Leaving Time" yet but I will definitely be adding it to my list! xx, Mikkaela The Southwestern Prepster
I've never read anything by Jodi Picoult, but I see her books everywhere. I like Nick Hornby, Sophie Kinsella (fun!), and quite a bit of non-fiction works as well.
I haven't read any of Picoults books but I'll definitely be adding them to my list! Leaving Time sounds awesome. Yes Please is amazing and you're going to love it! I wrote a little blurb about it on my blog not too long ago 🙂
I LOVE jodi picoult and I have since I was a small child! "My Sister's Keeper" makes me cry every time. I took your suggestion and bought "The Cuckoo's Calling" and I love it so much! Thanks for always referring the best books. And I always buy the ACTUAL book. not the electronic version. Call me old-fashioned 🙂
I also love Jodi Picoult! My favorite is the Song of the Humpback Whale, one of her firsts. This one was one of the more supernatural ones she has ever done which was probably why it wasn't my favorite.
I created a beautiful, custom silk photo album from @printique_by_adorama to remember my sweet dog Hamilton, who passed away earlier this year. Their layflat album captured the colors and details perfectly, making each photo feel so special. It’s a keepsake I’ll cherish forever, and I’m so grateful for the quality and love they put into every page. #printiquepartner
… and yet you must. This week has been the hardest yet. Pressure from work, pressure from myself, pressure from the world. The magnitude of reality feels too much and too heavy. Showing up for my children though when I can barely show up for myself.
We’ve noticed an improvement in Teddy’s vitality and digestion since switching to @primalpetfoods Kibble in the Raw! It’s the easiest way to give him the benefits of raw nutrition without losing the convenience of dry kibble since it’s freeze dried into bites and completely scoopable. You would never guess he’s 11 years old with these moves at the park! #primalpetfoodspartner #ad
In that final home stretch of 2024 and waffling between wanting to plan out every second of my day/week/month and needing to also just fly by the seat of my pants. Holding on for dear life and telling myself to just enjoy the ride 🤪
When the boys go down for bed, sometimes it feels akin to crossing the finish line of a marathon! With my @therabody Theragun Sense, now I’m able to unwind and relax from the #WorkoutCalledLife. With step-by-step prompts on an LCD screen (and accompanying app), the Theragun Sense guides you through different recoveries depending on what your goals are. Tonight, I’m prepping for restful sleep with a six-minute guided massage! #TherabodyPartner
Halloween 2024 was one for the memory books 🏈 Rory’s first Halloween!! Jack had a blast, Rory loved tagging along, and Mike and I couldn’t stop smiling 🤍 I don’t know how many years I’ll be able to convince the boys to coordinate their costumes so really taking advantage- I bought Jack’s football player costume (customized!) and sewed Rory’s football bubble myself (Jack asked if he could throw him, which was a resounding and firm, “no.”). Now time to raid Jack’s stash 😛

The pact is my favorite book from high school – I read it so many times! And I actually just bought Leaving Time for an upcoming vacation – YES!
I also love Jodi Picoult! My favorite is the Song of the Humpback Whale, one of her firsts. This one was one of the more supernatural ones she has ever done which was probably why it wasn't my favorite.
