a little bit of life, a little bit of style, and everything in between.
Put a wet (but not dripping) wash cloth in the microwave for about 30 seconds. Put that over your face and then put a hand towel over that. Lay there until it cools off and then repeat until the headache feels better. Be careful, the wash cloth will be quite hot so apply slowly but it works like a charm for me. Hope it goes away soon!
advil allergy sinus, ice pack, cold and dark room, 20 minute nap. Allergy sinus because my headache is usually a sinus migraine. Add hot tea if I can stand it.
You just moved to a new area, might want to think about ibuprofen, antihistamines, and decongestant. I never have typical allergy symptoms, only a headache. Also, I get them when pressure changes (storms in FL)
water, gatorade, 3 advil. followed by food with carbs and protien.

Cold compress on your forehead, peppermint oil right under your nose.
besides the usual pain relievers, I sometimes press a hot water bottle to my head. The warmth usually helps take away the pain. 🙂 hope you feel better!

Oh, and a hot/ warm bath:
-detoxes your body by raising your body's temperature
-dilates your blood vessels
-allows blood circulation
-lowers your blood pressure
-releases contaminants your body is storing through your pores
It works for me! I feel totally relaxed afterward, and then I can jump right into what I've planned for the day.
ps- right before you get in take 2-3 pain killers.
if its a tension headache – with your arm at a 90 degrees to the back of your neck & the side of your hand (little finger side against your neck) rub hard in a short up and down motion at the base of your skull and move your hand along as you go in a constant left to right motion across your hair line. I would recommend putting your hair up or it can look a little crazy afterwards – you need to do it for a good few mins as the motion (needs to be firm!) helps release the tension in the muscles that give you those awful tension headaches across your eyes. Its an Indian Head massage technique – works everytime for me after too many hours at the computer!
Oxygen (I'm serious, it does wonders)!! Also I tend to take more than the normal amount of pain killers when I have migraines haha (and it works).
I also drink a lot more water when I have a migraine, and also sleep in a dark room.
Having people give you massages help as well! Hope you feel better!
Caffeine, 4 Advil and sleep in a dark room if at all possible! If you think it's migraines you're experiencing I highly recommend asking your doctor about a prescription for Maxalt. It works wonders for me. Good luck!
I've had doctors suggest gatorade before, and it can do wonders!

Excedrin Migraine – the combination of acetaminophen, ibuprofen, and caffeine is the only thing that works. And a lot of water, since dehydration is usually a factor. I also use a heating pad on the back of my neck/shoulders/base of the spine to help reduce muscle tension, plus it tends to put me to sleep.
Long time admirer of your blog 🙂 I don't have any headache secrets but I am a quote-addict… http://www.xodiaries.com/search/label/Quotes
Feel better!
Try keeping track of what triggers your headaches- specific foods, drinks, environments, situations, etc. Doing that really helped me to figure out things that aggravated my migraines and now I can avoid them. Good luck & feel better!
Honey, you NEED to see a doctor. You've mentioned having bad headaches before and it sounds like you probably have some form of migraines. You should look into getting something like Topamax which will help prevent them before they start. You can also get medicines that will stop it if you feel a headache coming on.
Excedrin Migraine is amazing even if you don't have a migraine. It's ibuprofen, aspirin, and caffeine. Otherwise, a lot of times headaches are caused by dehydration, which is why water/gatorade often works well. Good luck. (:
About 800 mg of magnesium and 2400-4800 mg of fish oil EVERY SINGLE day. And cut down on your daily caffeine intake.
I use Excedrin Migraine, most stores aren't selling the brand right now but Target has their own brand. You just have to look for the bottle labeled migraine relief, and if you can't get to a store all it is acetaminophen, aspirin and caffeine. It's a miracle worker, I actually took some earlier!
Make sure you are totally hydrated! When I feel a migraine or headache coming on, I try to drink an entire liter of room temperature water (for whatever reason, chugging cold water makes me puke). I would go to the doctor, if you're having migraines, they are lots of things to try. I'm take sumatriptan. Also, I'm starting to track my migraines on gcal to see if they are related to my period.
Super hot shower. As hot as you can stand it. Coffee. Laying out in the sun. I used to get pretty bad migraines. Also try eating. I found I have to eat something small at least every 3 hours, like an apple or some crackers, otherwise I get a super bad headache the NEXT DAY. Weird, but ever since I started this my headaches have gotten better. I avoid pain killers. Too often your body gets used to them and then you get headaches simple because your system wants the pill. Good luck! Headaches are the worst!
Badger balm headache soother! Rub it on your temples and neck, put a cold washcloth on your head, take some advil and go to bed
I don't get them often- but BC powder usually helps. Also getting a massage and telling the masseuse (erg, I hate that word) that you're getting bad headaches and asking her to focus on your neck/shoulders/sinuses. Also- since you moved recently- could it be allergies? Get well soon!
I do some yoga poses to relieve headaches such as downward dog, forward bend. This blog post is great regarding acupressure for headaches:http://www.acupressure.com/blog/?p=529
I did it and feel so much better.
I also stretch my ears out, and massage my temples. My chiropractor taught me to do that when she founded out I was studying so hard that my brain was not relaxed.
Feel better!!!
I found this quote a while ago and I always keep it next to me during work: "Give your brain some rest by switching off the movements of the mind."

I've had migraines for many years and here is what works for me: Drink lots of water, decrease intake of caffeine as it aids in dehydration, get plenty of sleep, focus on the positive in everything to decrease stress and decrease intake of processed and fried foods. I do take meds (Zomig), but take them much less frequently since I started doing all of those things. Feel better!
pinch the muscle/skin between your thumb and index finger for a few seconds, then release. it works wonders!
Aspirin, hot towel, real coke and a snickers bar.
Excedrin & sleep! Seriously, my doctors recommended an x-ray because I used to get migraines so often. That (usually) worked for me!
For a migraine, I do a Tylenol PM or two and knock myself out for a few hours. If it's not a migraine, but a mother of a headache, I'll do a 1/2-1 Tylenol PM. It relaxes me and the pain without making me overly groggy. You've got some good suggestions from your commenters here, but I just do what I need to do to make the pain go away as quickly as possible.
Get the to chiropractor…stat. That has been the best cure for me! Also, if you put two tennis balls in a tube sock and tie a knot in the sock so that the balls are forced to stay close together and then lay on the floor with the balls at the base of your neck, it hits some trigger points that feel awesome. I agree with Denise that Tylenol PM or Advil PM also help tremendously!
Equate Migraine medicine.
if its a migraine try a coke and two advil.
I suffer from really severe migraines and here are a few of the things that really help me: light a lavender scented candle, put ice in a ziploc bag and wrap it in a washcloth and lay it over your eyes or forehead, and drink caffeine. Migraines are caused by the blood vessels in your head constricting and becoming too narrow, and prescription migraine medications are usually based with caffeine tablets because it makes your blood vessels dialate.
I don't get migraines, but whenever I have a bad headache I eat ginger (my favorite is from The Ginger People). I know it sounds weird, but it truly works and I feel better instantly! Hope you feel better soon!
a nice cup of Chamomile tea with a teaspoon of honey and a nice deserved break (at least a break until you finish your tea in peace)
Put the cologne 4711 on your temples, sounds weird but it does the trick for my family. (:
A shower, some tea with lemon, an excedrin migraine, and some sleep. Feel better love! xx
try going off of gluten–there is a good chance you could have a sensitivity to it. I used to have TERRIBLE headaches, went off of gluten and haven't had one since! good luck.
that was my problem too! So thankful to be feeling so much better these past few months!
If you have really, really strong headaches, they might be migraines. For years, I thought I was having sinus pressure headaches but they turned out to be migraines. If you have migraines, ice your head heat your upper back. FInd a migraine doc in NYC and get a prescription.

One thing that sometimes helps me if I have a headache around bed time is wetting a washcloth with hot water and then (wait for it to cool just a little) laying it across your eyes when you're lying on you back in bed.
During the day, sometimes a strong cup of black tea works for me. Good luck!
Pop and and try mint tea. Mint tea is like nature's cure all!
EXCEDRIN MIGRAINE. Done.
Until you can get to the neurologist and get a prescription for migraine meds.
Or a nap. Always gets the job done.
as silly as it sounds, water. like 2-3 good big glasses of water.
Peppermint oil, rub it on your head where the headache is. Surprisingly, it works really well!
Headache powder! Google it….I've only seen them sold in the south but you could probably order online and ship to NYC! Good luck xx

Last year I had a headache almost everyday for months… it ended up being sinus headaches caused by allergies! If normal migraine remedies are not working it might be worth looking into. Feel better! Headaches are the worst.
Water. Maybe that's because the cause of most of my headaches is stress or dehydration, but it seems to do the trick. Hope you feel better!
Have you checked into hormone problems? I switched BC in highschool and realized that was the issue! Now my headaches stem from too much time in front of a computer + squinting too much! Excredrin tension headache is the only thing that cures mine too!
Late to the party, but I have to mention it… a drop of lavender oil or peppermint oil on your fingertips, massaged at your temples for a few minutes. 🙂 Really does the trick for anything from stress/tension headaches to PMS-y headaches to full-on migraines.
Drink Spark from AdvoCare… I get headaches ALL THE TIME, and it's the only thing that works for me.
I used to get headaches like clockwork every afternoon…as it turns out, I have a pretty bad gluten intolerance. I started eating gluten-free and haven't had a headache since. Obviously, that's not the issue for everyone, but it's definitely something to look into if it is a chronic problem.
If you get headaches frequently it could be from eye strain (see an optometrist), tension headaches (if aleve works), sinuses (if you feel pressure under your eyes or behind your ears), or migraines. I've had horrible migraines since I was 14, I'm now 20 and haven't had one in a year from taking 1,000 units of magnesium daily. It really works wonders. Also make sure your getting at least 5 glasses of water a day.
I put a wet cool cloth on head while laying down. This reduces the inflammation and headache within 30 minutes or sooner. Also a tiny bit of raw Ginger root with headaches keep their distance. Try drinking plenty of water too.
