I leave for Georgetown on Saturday morning. I have very mixed emotions about heading back to DC for school. I have loved being home this summer and spending time with Soccer Mom & Dad and Sporty Sister (and our two cats Pookie and SoHo).
Things I will miss:
My family
My cats
Favorite restaurants & shops
Crafting & painting
All the kids I babysit for!!!!
Walk in closet
Not sharing a room or bathroom
Things I’m excited about:
My friends!!!
Coxing
Exploring the city
Basketball games
Nightlife
Did I mention my friends???
Midterms (haha, just kidding!)
Every five minutes I change my attitude about going back. Regardless of how I feel about it, I have to! Which is a good thing, because I know I’m going to have a really good and fun year!
So, what can’t a college prepster live without?
Travel coffee mugs! They have to be cute, or else it’s no fun. I literally inhaled caffeinated tea (I don’t like coffee just yet) during stressful weeks. The coffee shops around campus will discount the price of your drink if you use a reusable cup or mug instead of a paper product. Hello… go green, look stylish, and be alert!
An 80’s costume… or really any costume. A ton of parties are themed and you don’t want to be scrambling around trying to throw together an outfit last minute. Go thrift store hunting!!! A cute costume shouldn’t cost you more than eight dollars.
Laptops are god’s gift to the student in my opinion! But they’re pretty fragile beings. Take really good care of your laptop by using protective cases. This laptop sleeve is in a Lilly print and the company that makes them has other fabulous fabric choices. Another useful tip, don’t lay your laptop down on the floor in a crowded library 😉
Koozies are wonderful for diet coke. Be the life of the party with a monogrammed one. Or search for a Vineyard Vines koozie. I carry my VV koozie around in my Longchamp at all times. You never know when you might need it!
When I look around my classes, nearly everyone has the same laptop. Stand apart and personalize yours with a monogrammed decal. I am coveting them right now!!!
A first aid kit comes in handy… and who wouldn’t want a pink one?
A school shirt! Self explanatory, don’t you think? PS don’t you just love the college editions of the Vineyard Vines sash and headband???
This is Georgetown Boy’s addition. The Bro Hat. As he puts it, it completes a preppy outfit and keeps things casual.
Here is GB modeling both the school spirit (sweat)shirt and Bro Hat. PS I’m 5’5″ (I grew an inch since last summer!!!)… he’s very tall! 🙂
The next time I blog, I’ll be reporting from my dorm! I hope all you students have a great year!!!
OH I didn't realize you went to Georgetown!! I just moved to DC at the beginning of summer and LOVE it!!!! We should get together for coffee! Or preppy shopping… haha
I love to read your blogs and your title ”back to school” really attract my and remind my schools days but now i’m doing the boring job as Wikipedia consultant and reading blogs like yours to remind my old times
It usually takes 10x longer, is way messier, and requires a lot more patience to do things with a three year old toddler… but it’s also kind of magic. (You know, once the cracked eggs are cleaned up from the hardwood floor of course…) 👩🏻🍳 🧑🏼🍳
Christmas came early this year 🎁✨ My mom completely surprised me with her original copy of Entertaining by @marthastewart48 —her very first book! This was on my totally delusional wish list, and I can’t believe she not only still had it but actually gave it to me 🥹. Growing up, my mom was the ultimate “Martha Stewart mom,” making every holiday, party, and little moment feel so magical for my sister and me. Receiving this feels like such a special passing of the torch, and I hope I can carry on even a fraction of the thoughtfulness and creativity she poured into everything for my own children. Feeling so inspired (and emotional!) about this gift. 💕 Can’t wait to sit down and read this! #ChristmasSurprise #EntertainingByMartha #FamilyTraditions @marthastewart

✨ leave a comment with “SKIN” and I’ll send you all the products mentioned here ✨
I turned 35 in September and while I’ve always tried to take good care of my skin I wanted to really prioritize skincare from the inside out. At this point, I’m not doing any kind of injectables (not that I’m against them broadly speaking btw... just sharing that I haven’t done anything) and I don’t want to do anything invasive. I have made some small adjustments to my everyday life though that has made a difference. In just a few months, I really think my skin has never looked better (and I include infancy here because I unfortunately had baby acne ) and I’m really feeling good:
– Fresh washcloths after cleansing skin (@weezietowels “makeup” washcloths are cute, super soft, and very practical) – @omniluxled Omnilux Contour Face (this red light therapy mask has CHANGED the game for my skin. I use it 3-4x a week and it only takes 10 minutes per session!) – @jolieskinco filtered showerhead (I’ve noticed a difference in both my skin AND hair) – @ritual HyaCera (one capsule every night– it works from the inside out to help reduce the appearance of fine lines)
While I think my skin looks great on its own right now (🙌🏻 love to say that!), it also is serving as the best base for makeup. Sharing my current everyday routine: – @supergoop Mineral Unseen Sunscreen – @summerfridays Sheer Skin Tint (shade 1) – @merit Bronze Balm Sheer Sculpting Bronzer (shade clay) – @saiebeauty Dew Blush Liquid Cream (shade chilly) – @jonesroadbeauty Shimmer Face Oil (shade cool rose) – @sephora collection Eyebrow Gel (shade ebony) – @honest Extreme Length Mascara – @urbandecaycosmetics 24/7 Glide On Eyeliner (shade demolition) – @iliabeauty Balmy Lip Tint (shade lullaby)
girlhood 🫶🏻 find friends who want to do the same little hobbies as you! Went over to @shihstitches’ house yesterday to give her some sourdough starter and go through the basics (I’m *very much* a beginner so I told her to take my lesson with a grain of salt)
PS convinced her to make an IG account! @blueskyehouse
PPS she’s convincing me I really do need a fancy range like her ✨ stunning ✨ @lacanche.usa
Just a girl searching for the perfect digital planner solution. What I have right now is working, technically speaking, but I’m working across platforms and ideally I’d love everything to be in one place. I also have calendar synesthesia (IYKYK) and I physically feel myself in space moving through my calendar, which makes finding a planner difficult because I want/need it to match up with what I see in my head I know this sounds insane but if you also “see” time, you know what I mean!
Right now I’m using: – Google Sheets to track campaigns/business line items – Google docs for writing/brainstorming – Google/Apple Calendars (somehow they’re integrated and I don’t ask questions because it just works...) – Apple Notes for daily to-dos, random note keeping, and quick jot downs – Apple Reminders for “must dos” esp w/ deadlines – Dropbox for photo/file storage
I’m craving a good ole fashioned paper planner but the reality is that I need it to be digital. I need it to integrate with my calendar and remind me of tasks. I need to be able to access it on my computer when I’m working at my desk and on my phone when I’m on the go. I need structure and flexibility?
Does the perfect digital planner exist?! Do I need to overcome my overwhelm and tackle @notionhq? Is an @apple iPad the solution? Do I just keep doing what I’m doing because it’s technically working?
If you’ve stuck around to the end, I appreciate you 🫡
