A FUN WORD GAME

Usually this would be something I include within a post– like Friday “On My Radar”– but it’s just so good, it needed a standalone feature. I didn’t want this to get lost in the mix since it’s bringing me so much joy.

I don’t know about anyone else, but this January feels pretty bleak. We are hunkering back down with Omicron because 1/3 of our family can’t be vaccinated. And there’s just not a lot I feel comfortable doing with a baby when numbers are this high or can do quickly enough alone between naps and nursing. I keep reminding myself that January is only temporary and we’re a third of the way through already! But it’s definitely proving to be a mental challenge. (Please tell me I’m not the only one!)

Anyway. I have a post with my goals for the year coming up soon, and I’ll expand on this more, but I want to look for little silver linings to look forward to every day that are just for me. Practicing my French, sitting down to an extra delicious cup of coffee, getting into the bathtub for 20 minutes with a book. Just little things, just for me.

One little thing I’ve added into my daily routine…. WORDLE.

It’s a simple word game that’s taking over the internet. I read about it in the NY Times and have been hooked ever since. The story behind the game is really sweet and it’s been such a bright spot for me during these cold winter days. It’s a simple, but entertaining word puzzle, with a new one every day. I love that there’s only one! Unlike so many things on the internet where you could just binge and scroll for “just one more” again and again, this is a breath of fresh air!

The game is pretty straightforward, you have six tries to guess the mystery five letter word of the day. You have to guess five letter words each time, and the game will tell you if any of the letters in that word are in the mystery word. After clicking enter, if the letter is grey, it’s not in the word; if the letter is yellow, the letter is in the word but in a different spot; and if the letter is green, the letter is in the word and in the correct spot!

Give it a try and let me know what you think!

Ah I’m loving Wordle too! I love the fact that there’s only one game a day (we also have a baby so I don’t have time for more and would feel guilty if I was playing it all day). And I also like the fact that everyone gets the same word – it’s really nice as my husband is deployed for 3 months at the moment and he’s playing too so it’s a little thing we can do “together” while he’s away. I’ve got my mum into it as well and we chat every day about how we got on! I’m not very good at it yet though…I was down to the wire yesterday 😂

My husband loves it! It’s really nice to see him get so happy after being really stressed. He also thinks it isn’t a high enough difficulty level because you kind of have unlimited incorrect guesses- lol.

It’s extremely wholesome.

Hi Katie – I just discovered a hard mode that can be turned on if you click on the little settings wheel in the upper right hand corner. I’m sticking to the original mode!

I haven’t been feeling my best the past few weeks, quite anxious, restless and slightly depressed. Thank god for yoga and needlepoint (the latter thanks to you, needlepoint has truly been life changing). Thank you so much for being so open, it feels wonderful to know I am not alone. All the best to you and your beautiful family.

There’s a gameshow in the UK called “Lingo” which I’m pretty sure is based on this game! They play against a timer – I don’t know how they do it.

I saw it on your Stories a few days ago and am now HOOKED. I told friends and family and they are now hooked. It’s the best game and a good thing there’s only one per day otherwise I would be playing alllll day. : ) Thank you so much for sharing it! I look forward to it {and won’t admit how often I check in to see how many hours left on the Wordle clock until I can play again!}

Ever since you’ve shared this on IG stories I’ve been doing it every day! It’s incredible what the mind can do. About to make a shortcut for it, I’m that addicted lol
