It’s no secret that I love gingham. The print, especially of the navy and white variety, constitutes a large portion of my closet. While I wear gingham mostly in the summer, it can work for fall, too, when done right.
I put away my very summery gingham dresses this past week but kept a few pieces of my collection out to transition into the cooler season. One of the dresses I couldn’t put away? This KJP gingham shirtdress. I wore it so often this summer and knew I’d be able to make it work even after Labor Day.
Because it’s a dress, there’s just a lot of gingham going on. That works in the summer, but for a more autumnal look, I layered it with a navy sweater and topped it off with an olive green field jacket. (Both the sweater and the field jacket are fall staples for me!)
The scalloped collar on the dress though 😍 It’s my favorite part of the whole dress and it really pops against the navy sweater.
It’s so weird to see the leaves changing already. I feel like it’s happening super early this year. I have mixed feelings about this. On the one hand, it’s so beautiful, and on the other hand, I’m hoping it doesn’t mean we’re in for an extra long winter!

I really like the way you styled gingham into the post. I love gingham dresses and all, but the trend really hasn’t grown on me yet to be wearing full-body. This is such a nice, subtle way of working it in!

I love your outfit Carly! It’s so Autumnal, it looks lovely! I completely agree that gingham can work for Autumn too, but only if done right!
I hope you’re having a lovely Sunday!

I absolutely love how you layered this! That will take you through the cooler months. We are still in the 80s in Illinois, but soon we can transition! lol!

I’m still loving that crossbody bag!! I can’t wait for my city to feel more like autumn 🙂 -Audrey | Brunch at Audrey’s
I’ve been thinking about this dress for a bit so it was great see to a way to styled with some other autumn pieces. I know KJP has a great return policy, but I would love to know your thoughts on the fit. Would you wear this dress for a puppy play date? I spend most days active outside with my toddlers, and don’t want anything to fussy. Otherwise, I love the look. I’m also thinking I could wear this dress with riding boots or front tucked into some white skinny jeans.
Yes!! I love this so much. So versitle as a transition piece. It’s high on my to-buy list. But the price tag is a little up there for me. (Worth it and American made, but I work on a Library workers budget.)
Carly! This look is SO cute! I loved this dress in the summer, but I love it even more for the fall. You transitioned it perfectly for autumnal weather and I love it.
