I immediately purchased this gingham dress the minute I saw it online. It’s a stunner, and dare I say it, a must have for the summer. It fits amazingly and feels just as great on. Even though it looks super fancy, it’s surprisingly easy to wear. You could certainly dress it up for a night out or bring it out for a casual day too. I wore it shopping in Palm Beach.
I have to give J. Crew a big piece of praise here. The construction of the dress is incredible. I have one of their gingham dresses from last year that was TWICE the price, and it pales in comparison to this one.
I’m a little over 5’5″ and the dress would have been the perfect length to wear with wedges. Knowing I’d prefer to wear flats, I had it slightly hemmed. I’d say that if you’re 5’7″ and over, the dress would be 100% perfect as is, and if you’re under that you either have to wear wedges or you should think about getting it hemmed. (It’s also available in petite.)
But did I mention that it has… POCKETS. So you know, it’s a winner. We snapped the photos really fast, and I didn’t get to show you the back. I’m pretty sure the product photos they used on the website were with a sample dress because mine has a criss-cross that ties in a bow, making the top completely adjustable. As a girl with a larger chest, I highly appreciate the customizable fit up top!

It sounds like the dress would be much too big for me, but it looks lovely on you. Gingham is one of my all-time favourite prints (I think I’ve said that a gazillion times!) and I’m still trying to find a perfect gingham piece for myself!

It would be nice to see some spring looks and how to style them. It is far too early here in the Northeast to wear straw bags or wear summery dresses.
Dress is gorgeous – so is the gingham!

I’ve been going back and forth on whether or not to order this for a trip to Miami and St. Simons at the end of next month! I was worried about the length, but I’m 5’7′ so I think I’m going to go for it! The bottom looks so full in the first photo here and I love it on you 🙂
It looks fab, Carly, and you look so tall!
I feel like I need more gingham for spring and summer! This is perfect! I love how comfy maxi dresses are.

I love this dress!! I wish it worked for shorter people without getting it hemmed though.
Look into the petite size! And for what it’s worth, the dress is easy to hem!

Hey Carly,
I LOVE this dress and just ordered it. Do you know if this solid print version at J.Crew is the same?
It’s the same cut, but it fits a little differently because it’s a completely different fabric. Much more flowy/loose. I also think it’s a big longer because the fabric is weighted down more!
I remember when you posted this on snapchat and thought so cute but no where to wear! I was browsing my local jcrew last week and saw ONE bunched up in the sale section. Checked the size, thought hmmm, this could work. Let’s try on for fun. I instantly fell in love, it fit like a glove, and was on sale for under $50! That is why I came digging for this post. I’m planning to wear it to a Central Park wedding in October. Have you had any luck dressing this up? Also, a bit personal, were you comfortable bra-less in this? I didn’t think I could pull off wearing one with the cut. Ps, I had no idea you were so tall!! I am 5’3″ and mine is a petite and I just need a small wedge for the length. Thanks!
