So I’m a huge fan of Gilmore Girls and an even bigger fan of Parenthood. A huge component of this is that I absolutely love Lauren Graham. I just think she’s funny and always super honest in her acting.
Beyond being an actor, Lauren Graham just wrote a book! I had an opportunity to read it and let me tell you, I loved it. I love reading books set in NYC because I can track places I’ve been and streets I’ve walked down and whatnot. This book definitely didn’t disappoint in this department.
It takes place in 1995 (hello payphones and Filofaxes!) and shows one young woman’s journey as she tries to make it as an actress. It’s really quite funny and romantic and you absolutely start rooting for Franny!
Here’s the description of the book from the publisher:
From Lauren Graham, the beloved star of Gilmore Girls and Parenthood, comes a witty, charming, and hilariously relatable debut novel about a struggling young actress trying to get ahead―and keep it together―in New York City.
It’s January 1995, and Franny Banks has just six months left of the three-year deadline she set for herself when she came to New York, dreaming of Broadway and doing “important” work. But all she has to show for her efforts so far is a part in an ad for ugly Christmas sweaters, and a gig waiting tables at a comedy club. Her roommates―her best friend Jane, and Dan, an aspiring sci-fi writer―are supportive, yet Franny knows a two-person fan club doesn’t exactly count as success. Everyone tells her she needs a backup plan, and though she can almost picture moving back home and settling down with her perfectly nice ex-boyfriend, she’s not ready to give up on her goal of having a career like her idols Diane Keaton and Meryl Streep. Not just yet. But while she dreams of filling their shoes, in the meantime, she’d happily settle for a speaking part in almost anything—and finding a hair product combination that works.
Everything is riding on the upcoming showcase for her acting class, where she’ll finally have a chance to perform for people who could actually hire her. And she can’t let herself be distracted by James Franklin, a notorious flirt and the most successful actor in her class, even though he’s suddenly started paying attention. Meanwhile, her bank account is rapidly dwindling, her father wants her to come home, and her agent doesn’t return her calls. But for some reason, she keeps believing that she just might get what she came for.
Someday, Someday, Maybe is a story about hopes and dreams, being young in a city, and wanting something deeply, madly, desperately. It’s about finding love, finding yourself, and perhaps most difficult of all in New York City, finding an acting job.
I’ve already passed the book along to a friend (sign of a good book!)… Enter to win your own copy!!! (Who doesn’t love free, amazing books?)

Wearing vs styling an outfit with a bump! I feel so much better when I’m wearing something cute (dress well to feel well maybe?)… I’ve been fighting the temptation to wear comfy clothes while pregnant though! So far I have found blazers and cardigans an easy way to dress up my second trimester bump, especially as we enter fall.
Apple picking throughout the years 🍎 I can’t wait to go this year. It’s one of my favorite fall activities to do… I don’t even care that it’s usually expensive and crowded and basic, I live for it!
Fall for me means tailored blazers, touches of corduroy, and cozy sweaters… @jcrew, as always, has us covered with all the classics! Shop my head to toe look with @shop.ltk #liketkit https://liketk.it/4iOR7 #injcrew #ad
When @beaconhillbooksandcafe lives up to the hype and THEN SOME 🐿️ ✨ I got a little tour of this special bookstore from the owner herself and I couldn’t be more grateful. There is something magical about any bookshop, but when one is this thoughtful it’s hard not to fall in love with reading all over again. @sisterparishdesign textiles, @farrowandball coordinating paint, bestsellers & classics commingled on curated shelves. A little squirrel mascot named Paige, with her own story and her own entrance and her own little Boston-inspired house hidden away in the bottom of a shelf. Every detail is perfect, especially those on the children’s floor, where little ones can enter through a tiny door and press a big red button to activate a model train that circles the space.
Hey Carly,
this looks like an interesting book but I think the entry widget is broken.
should be working now 🙂
Lauren Graham, author?! This is almost too good to be true!
