There’s something about the new year that makes us all feel like we can start fresh—whether it’s committing to healthier habits, being a better parent, or simply showing up more fully in our relationships. If you’re like me, you’ve probably already set a few intentions, but let’s be honest: it can be hard to stay motivated and even harder to find the time. That’s why I’ve turned to my fave resource to fuel my year: audiobooks with Audible!

I’ve always been a huge fan of listening to books, especially when it comes to topics like parenting, personal growth, and relationships. Audiobooks allow me to absorb wisdom while I’m walking the dog, cooking dinner, or even doing laundry—basically, while living life. I kicked of my year by listening to Mel Robbins’ Let Them Theory! It is SO GOOD and I can’t recommend it enough. I have already been able to implement some changes in my personal life and can feel a difference in curbing my “people pleasing” tendencies and how I approach certain relationships. But it’s not just about this one book. There are so many gems out there, and I’m excited to share my favorites with you.
PARENTING:
Parenting books are a must for me every year, as I’m always looking for ways to improve as a parent. I also find audiobooks to be the best way to consume them because it feels like listening to a podcast. I also love playing particularly relevant chapters and passages for Mike when we’re together in the car so we can both benefit. I’ve put together a list of some of my all time favorites that I find myself referencing all the time.
If you’re looking for more practical ways to engage with your little ones, How to Talk So Little Kids Will Listen is a game-changer. It’s filled with practical tools that help you guide your kids with empathy, making those everyday moments of miscommunication feel more manageable. The author also provides specific scripts you can use with your children, which I found to be the most helpful.
Another book I’ve found transformative is Bringing Up Bébé. This was actually the only book I read before having Jack and I’m obsessed with implementing some elements of French parenting! (We use “le pause” daily!) This book offers a fascinating look at how cultural differences shape the way we raise our kids. It’s a great listen if you’re looking to simplify your parenting style and adopt a more laid-back approach.
I’ve also been thinking a lot about the future with my kids, which is where To Raise A Boy by Dr. Will Miller and The Anxious Generation come in. Both books offer incredible insights into the challenges young children face and how we, as parents, can better support their emotional health in this modern world.
PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT:
When it comes to personal development, I’m always on the hunt for books that inspire me to become better at managing my time, mindset, and emotions. I also compiled a list of some of the books that really stuck with me over the years and that I think about all the time!
Four Thousand Weeks by Oliver Burkeman is one of those books that makes you pause and think deeply about how we’re spending our limited time on this planet. It’s not about cramming more into your day, but learning to focus on what truly matters. This book absolutely transformed how I approach my life.
Another favorite is The Untethered Soul by Michael A. Singer. It’s a beautifully calming read that teaches you to detach from your thoughts and emotions. If you’re feeling overwhelmed by the constant noise in your head, this book offers a wonderful way to step back and find peace. I read this about a decade ago and I think I’m going to listen to the audiobook as a refresher!
Then there’s Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert. If you’re craving creativity and inspiration this year, this is the audiobook you need. Gilbert’s approach to living a creative life is so freeing and reminds you that creativity doesn’t have to be perfect or even that serious—it’s about joy and expression.
Finally, Daring Greatly by Brené Brown and Quiet by Susan Cain are both must-reads for anyone looking to build resilience and cultivate self-assurance. I can’t tell you how much these books have inspired me to step out of my comfort zone, whether in my career, relationships, or personal life.
The Power of Audiobooks for Growth
What I love most about listening to these books is that I can do it while also checking things off my to-do list. It makes it easy to soak in so many life-changing ideas without taking time out of my already packed schedule. Audiobooks allow me to make personal growth a part of my everyday routine, and that consistency adds up in ways that really start to show after a few weeks.
Whether I’m tuning into Mel Robbins’ empowering Let Them Theory or soaking in the wisdom of books like Zen and the Art of Happiness, audiobooks have become my secret weapon for cultivating a more intentional and fulfilling life. They’re helping me stay on track with my resolutions while also allowing me to be more present, more reflective, and, ultimately, more me. Happy listening, and here’s to a year of personal growth and development!
