Nutella Hot Chocolate

Who doesn’t love Nutella?! I mean, there’s something ridiculously amazing about. It’s good with and on so many things. I love Nutella in crepes and Nutella on toast and Nutella on a spoon. Delicious!
I saw a handful of recipes for Nutella lattes and hot chocolate floating around on Pinterest. I’ve made my own and purchased Nutella lattes before, but I loved the idea of hot chocolate. It seemed simple and very cozy to me. Every Sunday, Garrett and I kick of the start of the week with “slow cooker Sunday” where we make dinner at home… I always throw in a fun dessert, too. This week, I decided to try the Nutella hot chocolate. I’m going to include a “recipe” for how I made it although one isn’t necessarily needed. You can tailor the hot chocolate exactly how you’d like, and it’s more or less hot chocolate milk than anything else. (But way better.)
This drink definitely takes more energy to make than a powdered hot chocolate mix, however, the result is beyond anything you can dream. Really, it may just blow your mind. It actually helps, in my opinion, that it’s super flavorful because you can drink it super slowly and enjoy it for quite some time. Bookmark or Pin this for a snowy movie night!
For two servings:
4 cups of milk*
2 spoonfuls of hot chocolate mix
2 spoonfuls of sugar
2 spoonfuls of Nutella
Toppings (we used piped Nutella, marshmallows, crushed candy canes, and chocolate chip bits)
Heat the milk in a pot on the stove with medium heat. When you start to see steam and bubbles, add the hot chocolate mix, sugar, and Nutella. Whisk together until it starts to melt. PAY ATTENTION. If the mixture starts to rise, remove from the heat and just continue to whisk off to the side. (I learned the hard way when I had the heat too high, the mixture literally overflowed.) Pour into cups, sprinkle with toppings, and enjoy!
I love that you can make as much or as little as you want and tailor it exactly to your taste. You can decrease the sugar, bump up the chocolate, or swap out whole milk for skim milk. Whatever floats your boat!
To pipe the Nutella, I put a small spoonful in the corner of a plastic sandwich bag, twisted the bag to push the Nutella into the corner, snipped the end with scissors, and zig zagged the Nutella over the marshmallows and then topped with the crushed candies.
We made the hot chocolate this weekend with just marshmallows. Garrett had the best idea to use candy canes for extra holiday-flare considering it’s (omg) officially December. He was in charge of using the blender to crush them! I loved the extra touch.

A side note, because we all know it’s going to happen, if you want to snap a photo of your creation for Instagram, you’re going to have to act quick and possibly recruit a friend. I think photographing food is hard. (Food can look…. gross.) Garrett was the perfect set of extra hands to get everything done before the marshmallows started melting and sinking! Melted and sunk marshmallows taste delicious and look strange. Ha!

Love it! Last winter I was in charge of Holiday drinks at the cafe I worked at, and I knew I needed to do a Nutella Hot Chocolate! It was milk, belgian chocolate chips, Nutella, salt, and cinnamon, all steamed and melted thanks to the espresso machine steam wand and people LOVED it!
