ON MY RADAR

Currently writing this while my little one-week old Jack snoozes in a bassinet next to me. I’m going to work on his birth story blog post (they’re always my guilty pleasure to read and I’d love to write it while it’s still pretty fresh in my memory!). This past week has been one of the hardest and most rewarding weeks of my life. I can’t even put it into words really. My only complaint? I already want to slow down time!!!

I have been soaking up all the newborn snuggles, trying to catch sleep where I can, throwing in load after load of laundry, and feeding and changing around the clock… and doing a lot of internet scrolling while I try to get Jack to sleep in the middle of the night. Here’s what has been on my radar:

ONE // Iced Brown Sugar Latte with Shaken Espresso

My current guilty pleasure is Starbucks’ iced brown sugar oatmilk shaken espresso… I have been treating myself to it a little more than I probably (definitely) should. I saw that Half Baked Harvest shared a recipe so we can recreate a similar drink at home… Not sure when I’m going to have time to do this, but I’m sharing this with you and then going to save it to try to make it later down the road.

TWO // Ruth’s Basket Stitch

This is for all of my fellow needlepointers out there! How beautiful and unique is this basket stitch? I actually stitched this little basket tote last year, but think I might do it again just to try out this basket stitch. The guide is free from Grant Point Designs right now! Brilliant.

THREE // These People Who Work From Home Have a Secret: They Work Two Jobs

Okay, how crazy is this story. There is a group of people who have figured out how to double their income. They are working two jobs (without telling anyone else) while we work from home. This sparked a huge conversation over the past week after it made the rounds in various group texts I’m in and I thought you’d find it interesting too.

FOUR // Wood Pizza Appetizer Serving Board

We have zero need for this because we received so many cutting boards– every shape and size– for our wedding. BUT, I still had to share this because maybe you need a pizza appetizer serving board. I’ve never seen anything like this. I imagine it would be quite the conversation starter at your next dinner party.

FIVE // Charli D’Amelio Is Selling Out of Cold Brew

This is an older video (about six months old), but it’s a bit of a deep dive into brands utilizing social media (namely: TikTok) in new ways. They introduce the topic with Dunkin’s partnership with TikTok star Charli D’Amelio and then cover all the ways Dunkin’ is tapping into a new generation of potential customers. Really interesting stuff if you’re into marketing/advertising/business (or if you just like scrolling through TikTok’s for you page).

Carly, just wanted to wish you congratulations on baby Jack. He’s a sweetie. Looking forward to the birth story, I’m a sucker for those too, despite not being a mom yet!

Welcome Jack! He’s adorable. I think he looks like his father.

Here’s my unasked for advice in getting your precious bundle of joy to sleep 6 to 8 hours straight. First he needs to weight 8 lbs. Feed him or her before you go to bed. Whether it’s 10, 11 or 12 o’clock PM. Wake him up. He’ll go right back to sleep. I promise you. Then he’ll sleep 6 to 8 hours straight. My pediatrician taught me that and it works. He also said when baby goes down for a nap you do too. I managed to sleep 6 hours a night and took a 1 to 2 hours nap everyday. I promise you — it can be done! Good luck!

This is quite possibly the worst advice I have ever read about babies — Congrats Carly, your first unsolicited advice about sleep and babies!

You seem to be doing a great job with Jack, just keep following your instincts and ignore the books and commenters. I had one who slept through the night at 6 weeks and one who didn’t sleep through until almost too years! You and Jack will find your way.

Congratulations to you & Mike on sweet baby Jack!!! He is just so perfect & precious and I’ve been loving all the photos you’re sharing on Instagram lately!! So wonderful your family could come to visit and help for the first few days.
Also, when my first was a newborn I also had a guilty Starbucks favourite and enjoyed it for the first two months a little excessively before reining it in haha- so just enjoy right now!!

Congratulations, Carly! A book called On Becoming Babywise saved me with my newborns and I feel a responsibility to share it with every momma. 😆 It helped us get our babies to sleep through the night at an early age (and I echo a commenter who said feed baby before you go to sleep). So happy for you!

The video about Charli and Dunkin’, and the ramifications for brands and content creation, was so interesting. Thanks for sharing.

I don’t have baby advice, but I have been getting the brown sugar oat milk shaken espresso &…..you have to add vanilla sweet cream cold foam. It is the. best. thing. ever. I was turned off of Starbucks for years, but I’m a believer, again, because of that combination.
