I think it’s no secret that I have a very well-defined style. My wardrobe is pretty much always the same and I can walk into a store and immediately point out every single thing that works for me (aka my “rules”) and everything that does not.
I don’t like experimenting very much. I know what I like and I don’t like to deviate.
When I was asked by Pickie to do a story with them, I wasn’t sure what to think. They wanted me to get de-prepped. I kind of jumped the gun and said yes and then started to feel super anxious. Hello, control freak over here… the outfits would be picked out by Phillip Salem, the owner OWEN. Even when I got there, the nerves were kicking in. And when I saw the outfits, my immediate reaction was #NO.
“Outside of my comfort zone” doesn’t even begin to describe how I felt. Being a good sport, I wore all the outfits anyway. Honestly, it was kind of awesome to try something new. I felt… different! Even though I thought I would be really shy in a pair of leather pants, I actually felt kind of confident. Check out the entire story about “de-prepping The College Prepster” on Pickie!
It was fun to wear something new and feel like a new person!
While I went from one extreme to another, I think not being so stuck in your ways is better. Know what you like, but don’t be afraid to try something new. You never know what you might end up loving! This goes for way beyond just clothing.
Experiment with interests and extra-curriculars. Take classes you hadn’t thought of before. Say yes to a guy who may not quite be your “type.” Book a trip or plan a vacation that you’ve wanted to do but didn’t think you could. (Zip-lining was something I never thought I could do!)
You know what they say… life begins at the end of your comfort zone.
What’s the last thing you tried out of your comfort zone that you ended up loving?
I can relate, I see some clothes and will think "that's just not me" and won't give it a chance. It's always good to get out of you comfort zone some times and it can be fun! I really like the dress you are wearing in the last photo! Beautiful pictures!

Love that dress! Your outfit before is super cute too! As much as I love the other outfits, I'm not sure if I could bring myself to buy them (they're outside MY comfort zone! haha)

That dress is so cute!! The thing that comes to mind of being out of my comfort zone was studying abroad. I always wanted to study abroad…but to an English speaking country, the thought of a language barrier stressed me out. I ended up studying abroad in Granada, Spain and had the absolute time of my life. I am SO glad that I got over my fears and decided to go to Spain. Best decision and leaf of faith I've ever made!
Well, you look amazing, so it was a good push out of your comfort zone – adding more things, that make you look great 🙂
I can really relate, most of the time I am absolutely sure about things I like and don't, but recently I've been doubting myself, because I either see something and think "Can I pull this off?" – and have to try it on, or it's my boyfriend who picks something up and says: "That's so you" – and I think – it is? Haha.
But the last time I did something out of my comfort zone was just yesterday, when I went to a networking event with people from my industry (namely, building and construction) and participated in the discussions and presentations about a specific topic AND did it in Danish (I am Latvian and am still just learning Danish) AND talked to strangers AND professionals who compared to me have experience and jobs. I'm so shy sometimes!
I was really glad I did that, though 🙂

What's in my makeup bag post has just gone up on my blog, if you're interested to check it out!
I love this post so much and I read the article yesterday! I recently did something similar when I went shopping. Instead of going for the regular clothes I get, I thought it might be interesting to try something new and I loved it!

You went from Blair Waldorf to Serena Van der Woodsen! Adorable!
You look great!! I saw one of these pictures on pinterest, pinned it, and then saw it here, and I didn't even realize it was you! A huge transformation! I really love you're preppy style, but being a girl who has a style that changes by the day, it was neat to see you in something different!! 🙂

That dress is amazing!
I went and read the article. You looked fabulous in all of it. it is good to stretch ourselves sometimes:)
I like the last dress! I have a problem stepping outside of my comfort zone also… it is just so hard!
That dress in the last picture is amazing!
I've been writing on my blog about my quest to differentiate myself from dressing so preppy into more "edgy." It's tough, but I definitely do it because I got bored (which happens often).
Your Friend, Jess
You look incredible! I hope you take these looks out for a night on the town once in a while!
I adore this post! I think it is cool to leave you confort zone one time, even it is for fun. Although, one of the things that I most like about your style is consistenly,I don't like that crazy fashion blog stuff always changing style.
Xoxo
What are your fashion rules? Have you have done a blog post on this? I think this is really interesting.
