We’re back today with another “1 Girl, 5 Outfits” post and I think it’s a post that a lot of readers will be able to relate to! I’m loving the outfits, Anne looks great in everything from her business suit to her casual outfit (I want her sneakers!).
//
Hello! My name is Anne (pronounced like Annie) and I am a 23-year-old law student from Minneapolis, Minnesota. I’m currently in my second year of law school, and when I’m not running from class to the courthouse (and vice versa), I love trying new places for coffee and drinks, going for runs, and watching cheesy Netflix movies.
I didn’t really develop my sense of style until late into college. I went to undergrad in DC and that was where I was first exposed to brands like Vineyard Vines and Lilly Pulitzer. While I initially loved the preppy style, I ended up channeling it into something more classic because I find the simplicity and sophistication more accessible and easy to wear on a day-to-day basis. Since coming back to Minneapolis for law school, my style has definitely become more trendy and minimal, just like the city itself! I love a simple look with a little pop of something fun. I also try to incorporate the items that have been passed down to me, such as scarves and rings from my grandmas or my grandpa’s silk pocket squares. My style icons include my grandma, Mary Tyler Moore, and Meghan Markle.
Picking out my outfit is one of my favorite parts of the morning because it gives me a chance to methodically go through my wardrobe and decide how I want to present myself that day.
A huge thank you to my neighbor and family friend, Amy Forness Photo, who shot these amazing pictures.
Similar Blazer // Similar Turtleneck // Similar Skirt // Similar Loafers // Necklace // Pearls // Tote // Scarf passed down from Grandma (Similar Scarf) // Ring
I wear a variation of this look the most often, whether I swap the skirt in for crop pants or the turtleneck for an oxford, I wear this one like a uniform. I love pairing it with loafers because they’re not only comfy, but they also add a level of sophistication to my outfit. I like this outfit because it takes me from class, to my internship, to any evening networking events or happy hours. The Gucci scarf tied to my bag once belonged to my Grandma, and it is probably one of my favorite pieces of all time!
Similar Dress // Heels // Clutch // Earrings // Bangle passed down from Grandma (similar) // Ring passed down from Grandma (similar)
It’s funny because whenever I’m looking for dresses to wear to weddings and dances, I initially gravitate towards something unique or with a pattern; but I almost always end up going with something very simple and accessorizing it. I love this dress (and ended up buying it in another color) because it’s so flowy and easy. I love very simple dresses because I almost always use the same gold strappy shoes and tortoise clutch from Tuckernuck (one of the best purchases ever) and end up switching out the statement earrings.
Jeans // Tee // Jacket // Similar Shoes // Silver ring passed down from Grandma (similar) // Pearls // Pocket square from Grandpa (similar) // Similar Backpack
Whether I’m running errands or hitting up a coffee shop in Minneapolis to do homework or meet up with friends on the weekends, I like to keep it very easy. I’ve been trying to be more adventurous with my jeans lately, and these button up high wasted jeans from J.Crew factory are so good. They run true to size and are super flattering. I also think this bomber camel jacket might be my best purchase for fall because of its versatility. I never thought I would be a sneaker girl, but I bought these during my senior year of college when I was pulling eight-hour shifts at J.Crew and needed something comfortable that was also work-approved. I love them so much I just might buy another pair! They’re easy to throw on quickly while walking out the door but give my outfit that perfect casual look.
Tied to my Coach backpack is one of my grandpa’s old silk pocket squares. He gave me all of them last year, and I now have quite the collection to tie around my bags or use as a hair tie or a scarf!
Mix and Match Suit Options // Similar Silk Shirt // Necklace // Ring // Similar Headband // Heels // Pearls
Suits are still a must for the legal profession, but that doesn’t have to be a bad thing! There is nothing better than slipping on a suit you feel incredibly comfortable and confident in. I firmly believe though that you will only feel comfortable if you make sure it’s something that represents you! I love the heathered navy color of this suit because it makes it a little more classic and less stuffy. I also opted for a slightly oversized blazer without the collar to feel a little more fashionable and modern. Most days, I wear flats; but whether heels or flats, I always wear a pointed toe to elevate my look. These heels were a last-minute Target purchase when I was going to a cocktail hour at the Supreme Court this summer and realized I hadn’t brought any heels to DC with me! I’m pretty impressed with the quality though, and they’ve become a go-to.
The silk shirt I’m wearing under my blazer has special meaning for me. When my grandpa took me suit shopping for law school (shopping together is one of our favorite things to do), I gravitated towards a rack full of silk shirts. He then told me that my grandma used to own one in every single color, and it was no surprise that I loved the look. Since then, I’ve been trying to collect them too!
Scallop Tank // Jeans // Similar Earrings // Shoes // Purse // Ring passed down from Grandma (similar)
Whether hitting up a trendy restaurant in the warehouse district or a dive bar in NE Minneapolis, I love that this outfit can work either way. I don’t know if you’ve caught onto a theme, but easy and comfortable is super important to me – I don’t like to be adjusting my outfit all night! I love these jeans from American Eagle and get a ton of compliments on them. A bonus is they’re stretchy and, because of their low price point, I don’t have to worry if I accidentally spill on them. Statement earrings have definitely become my way to dress up outfits. These ones were borrowed from my friend and somehow accidentally made their way back to Minnesota with me (haha sorry Brianna!)
These slides and the purse are both from Target. My law school is near the Target headquarters downtown which I can conveniently get to through the skyway (fun fact: you never have to go outside in the winter in Minneapolis with the skyway system, everything downtown is connected!) When I’m stressed or bored in between classes, I head to Target. I like Target for trendy pieces because it allows me to follow the trend without breaking the bank.
Lastly, I just want to say that I am so grateful and love being a part of the TCP community!

Anne, I love all your looks and timeless style. I love that your grandma is one of your style icons. The two things that struck me most about your post was how you wear your late grandma’s jewelry (I do the same and it makes missing her easier) and second, that you go shopping with your grandpa. I just lost said grandma’s husband this year and a couple of our favorite things to do together was go shopping and go to Starbucks. I never thought about taking one of his pocket squares to tie on a bag. I’m going to do that 🙂 thank you.
Anne, these looks are fabulous!! Each one feels classic and elegant, but still so down to earth. I can just picture you crushing lawschool while being the most sophisticated girl in the room. Thank you for sharing how you incorporate meaningful family pieces into your daily wardrobe. What a great idea!
Omg!!! This is perfect timing seeing some MN scenery because I recently moved away from my MN home to the east coast, and I’m feeling a tad homesick!! Love the style!! Also, I hope you’ve been to Spy House Coffee, and do you go to UST??? I went there for undergrad! Go tommies!!

Xo,
Libby 😊
Yes! Go Tommies 🙂 Nothing better than leaving MN for a bit and realizing how much you appreciate it, right? I love spyhouse, I usually am mostly at the coffee shops downtown, but have recently discovered the Lynhall and love it!
I am in my second year of law school too and can totally relate to needing to have suits and business attire, but also wanting to maintain my style while still being comfortable!!!! It can be a challenge to want casual pieces for everyday but also need business clothes. I love your style and how all of your pieces are so versatile.

I absolutely love your style Anne, my sense of style followed a very similar path going from overly preppy to learning how to use those preppy elements in a more mature, classic look. I graduated law school in May and I my new job at a law firm in a week and a half and I’m having fun planning professional outfits that still highlight my classic style. I love how you styled your suit!
Cheers,
Malinda

Anne, I love these looks and, even as someone not in the law profession, can see myself wearing these items. However, I have to say.. I don’t think $90 jeans from AE are a low price point where I’d want to stain them or not be upset if I spilled on them. I don’t think $90 anything is a low price point.
Oh whoops so sorry! I may have posted the wrong jeans, here is a similar pair with the low price point I was referring to. I bought these like 2 years ago and I just remember buying them for around $40.00! They were either on sale or similar to ones in this link. I agree, 90 is not a low price point for jeans lol, good catch 🙂

Hi Anne, I love your simple, classic vibe! Thank your for sharing. I just put your pendant in my cart … perfect!! In the pendant description it mention cz, but I can’t see them anywhere? I’m a Minneapolis girl, too!! I grew up in Minnetonka and live in Wayzata, where we raised our four kids. You must be a Tommie girl! Good luck with your studies and thanks again for sharing, and thanks to Carly for having you 🙂 Do you have a blog?
Yes, I am definitely a Tommie girl and seriously love the community! Love Wayzata, so charming. One of my favorite memories from when I was younger was when my family would eat at Sunsets (now Cov) right on the lake. I do not have a blog but have always loved the idea of it, which is why it was so fun to be included in this series! Law school definitely takes up all my extra free time right now though.
yes sunsets!! and we love cov, seriously one of the best happy hour eats around!! and, so sorry to ask again, but just wondering about your pendant and any cz’s on it? thank you!!
Anne! I love your style girlfriend. That first outfit is a must try. I love how you keep everything very neutral and classic, but still make it your own ❤️ Gonna have to try that pocket square trick
Love all these looks and also all the pieces you use from your fam!! So cute xx
Absolutely LOVE all of these outfits, especially your turtleneck and navy blue skirt combo! As a teacher I could see myself wearing this outfit during the day with my students to adding a statement necklace at night for dinner with friends! Thank you so much for outfit inspiration!
I love these posts and Anne’s style! She is so young yet so stylish and chic!

Your style is gorgeous. I really love these posts. It’s so fun to see what other people wear and their personal style
Best one yet! Absolutely LOVE her style and how she pulls outfits together. I can see myself wearing every outfit she has here. Loved the suiting tips, as I worked in the legal profession a long time and got a little stuck in my suiting choices. Great job Anne! And, lovely photos!
I love Anne’s style! I feel like it is totally within Carly’s realm, but still really unique and personal! Love the 1 girl 5 outfits posts!
