A Ballerina’s Tale

Do you have plans this weekend yet?! If you have a spare couple of hours, you should definitely add A Ballerina’s Tale to your schedule. The documentary, currently on Netflix, features Misty Copeland as she rises to the top and shatters the idea of what an ideal ballerina should look like.
I love any kind of movie about dance, especially ballet. This one is definitely one of my favorites now. I watched it one night while I was feeling sick and truly couldn’t take my eyes off the screen. Misty is a force. Watching her move, even if it’s just across a screen, feels like a privilege. She’s graceful and strong.
One of the best parts of the film is how she was set up with an incredible support system. All these women who helped pave the path before her lifted her up so Misty could break past her self doubt and her natural talent could shine through. It’s a great reminder that you shouldn’t hold yourself back and you shouldn’t be afraid to ask for help and support along the way.

Was perusing your other post of documentaries you recommend and thought I'd chime in with one that I think you should add to your list. Scatter My Ashes at Bergdorffs is a delicious film that not only chronicles the history of the iconic store itself, but also highlights the stories of some of its longest term employees. Watching the interviews of designers like Michael kors and others talk about the first time their line for picked up by Bergdorffs is also a treat.

If you like the documentary you should also ready her book; goes into a lot about her childhood and her struggles when she was much younger.

If you liked her documentary, I recommend her autobiography Life in Motion, as your next book! It's a super easy read and took me less than a week to finish. It's just a really great, inspiring story to make you feel good!

There's definitely a stereotype when it comes to ballerinas–white, thin, dainty. I'm sure that many little girls have wanted to grow up and be ballerinas at least once in their life, but not many see it through, and even fewer who have had to face challenges like Misty Copeland had to. What a beautiful, STRONG woman! I love how that photo portrays her strength, yet still capturing her beauty and grace. What an inspiration! -Audrey | Brunch at Audrey's
