The movie is amazing. Really great soundtrack, an even better cast, and one of those plots that totally tugs at your heart. It’s a different kind of movie… traveling in time seems like it would be a total sci-fi film, but it’s natural. Beautiful. And heartbreaking.
I don’t think I was prepared enough for the movie, but I walked out of there just wanting to call my parents. Like, ASAP.
A couple of days after watching the movie, Garrett and I went to go hear Richard Curtis (director), Bill Nighy, and Domhnall Gleeson speak. We were allowed to ask questions and hearing their take on the film was an added bonus. Garrett was braver than I was and started a conversation about the father and son dynamic. The movie does an incredible job of establishing one of the most beautiful father/son relationship… ever. (But seriously, I called my dad first thing in the morning.)
Richard Curtis’ response:
Thank you very much for saying that about the father and son. And I think it’s tremendous credit to these two. It was so interesting. When I met Bill about the film and he said I’m happy to do it, but I don’t want to do any acting, and I think what he meant was that he wanted to do something so sort of simple and generous that it allowed people who saw the film to kind of put their own father into the slot he was occupying. There was a way of doing the film where he would have a mustache twirling English eccentric, and you would have thought, well, it’s a science fiction film, it’s got nothing to do with my life. And I think the way Bill played it so sort of gently and graciously is probably what allows people to think that it can relate to them.
In one word… I would describe the movie as tender. It really makes you think about how you approach every single day. Inspiring.
It’s out in theaters on November 1… and I completely recommend it. (But bring tissues.)
What movies have you seen lately?

Reminds me of The Time Traveler's Wife, but that's probably just because of the Rachel McAdams/time-traveling connection. Looks like it'll be a good movie though, can't wait to see it in theaters!
