Baby, You’re a Firework

Okay, so it totally seems like College Prep is turning into a blog about documentaries. I swear, I think I have a serious problem. I’ve been zipping through them on Netflix at an alarming rate.
Last weekend, I wasn’t feeling 100%. I think I’ve been super dehydrated from the heat and I was just resting/recovering in bed with bottles of Gatorade. I was scrolling through the kid section on Netflix (don’t judge! you never know what you’ll find!) and saw that the Katy Perry documentary was on there.
I had seen the trailer, but I really don’t know much about Katy Perry at all. Curiosity got the best of me and I decided to just go for it considering I couldn’t find anything else and I was seriously not feeling well at that point. Oh my gosh. It was amazing.
So many things are covered in the documentary. Katy’s work ethic and drive. Her dedication to her family, fans, and music. The trials and tribulations of her marriage. The story arc of her life. The people closest to her and the role they play in the making of the concert. Oh, and the songs.
Honestly, I kind of thought she was an overnight success with “I Kissed a Girl,” but she had been working at it SO MUCH before she finally “made it.”
Wow.
Totally inspiring. Totally bright and colorful. And totally catchy.
Plus, one of my favorite songs is “Firework”! (See, this is a seasonal post for Fourth of July!)

My favorite Youtube band (they’re all sisters!) Cimorelli does such a great cover of the song:

Have you seen Katy Perry’s Part of Me?

I'm not really a Katy Perry fan, but some of the Cimorelli girls were on the swim team that I coached and it is always so great to see them get recognition.

I recently watched this last weekend, too! It was much better than I thought – and so very real. It made me like Katy even more. For another suggestion for a documentary you might like is one called "first position". It's about 4 children who are trying to make it in the ballet world. It's brilliant and really awesome to see how hard they work to make it. It's very inspiring!

I still prefer Katy Perry's earlier work back when she wasn't caked in makeup and a bit quirky before she turned into the epitome of bubble gum pop, but I have to admit, this documentary was quite good, much better than I had expected.

I am in love with this movie! At first Katy Perry was just "meh" for me, but after watching her movie I realized how inspiring and cool of a person she is. I will definitely be watching this movie again sometime soon 🙂

I watched this one on a whim while I was laying in bed with a sinus infection and it was awesome! I have a soft spot in my heart for Katy Perry.

I LOVED this documentary! Katy's work ethic and struggle with the personal/work balance is so relatable. Thanks for the documentary posts, Carly! They are great recommendations!

I am so bad with Documentaries, I mostly watch ones on places not people. Or I don't know if you can call them Documentaries but I'm completely obsessed with shows like Haunted Histories.

Those sisters are so adorable and they are fabulous!!! I hope they get a contact…they are so much better than all the silly boy bands out there!
