Backcountry is my GO TO place for all my outdoorsy clothes.
One of the best things you can give yourself and others right now is the gift of going outside. Especially as we start to enter the dark and coldest months, it can be tempting to stay cooped up inside but getting OUTSIDE and enjoying the outdoors is so healthy. It’s good for your mental and physical health…. and the weather shouldn’t impact you! I’ve adopted the idea of the Scandinavian phrase: “there’s no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothes.” If you’re properly dressed, you can combat any kind of weather! Backcountry is my favorite place for all of my winter outdoorsy clothing. For years it’s been my go-to for ski clothes and anything I might need to stay warm while outside in the winter.

The Gift of the Great Outdoors
Fun fact: “Outdoor Carly” is my alter ego. I didn’t even know she existed until I moved out of the city and started to ski. Turns out I LOVE to be outside. Whether it’s walking the dogs, sitting in a lawn chair with a book, or flying down a mountain. I do not enjoy being uncomfortable (usually from being freezing cold). But once I figured out how to properly dress for cold weather? The game was changed.
I wanted to share a few of my favorite items (old and new) from Backcountry that make my time outdoors not just comfortable but enjoyable! These are all great items for women and many also come in men’s versions too… so definitely keep that in mind when making gift purchases this year 😉
A new to me purchase that I’ve had my eye on for a while: Blundstone boots.
They have a cult-like following and I finally went for a pair knowing they’d be a staple for years to come. Now that I have them? I can confirm: they’re awesome. I went with my regular size, but if you’re in between I’d size up to the next whole size especially if you plan on wearing super thick socks. (Half sizes are for width, not length.) The boots come with additional insoles you can add to get your perfect fit which I really appreciated– though the boots fit perfectly out of the box. I went with the Women’s Classic 550 Chelsea Boot in Rustic Brown.
They’re also available for men and for kids too.
Oh, do you have little pups on your gift list too?! Backcountry also have you covered with our favorite Barbour coats for dogs. My dogs LOVE their coats. They know when I pull them out that we’re going out for a long walk. I also think they appreciate the extra layer when it’s super cold… and they look darling. Ham has the waxed jacket and Teddy’s wearing the quilted tartan.
I’d be remiss to talk about Backcountry without mentioning two of my year-round staples: The Patagonia Better Sweater and the Patagonia Down Sweater Full-Zip Hooded Jacket. They’re investments that you will wear for years and years. And they make great gifts because they’re crowd-pleasers.
Here’s the Better Sweater and Hooded Jacket for men.

You had convinced me to buy Blundstones finally but neither of the coupon codes work on Blundstones 🙁
Dang- so sorry about that. I wasn’t given a list of exclusions 😭
I chatted with a CSR and she was able to give me store credit for what the discount would have been to put towards a future purchase. I thought that was a very kind and reasonable offer! 🙂
You’re absolutely right about going outdoors. It’s great for reducing stress and admiring nature. I’m trying to go outside more, too.

I think I will gift myself some new snow boots, so I can survive the Minnesota winter when I move home in a couple of weeks, lol! I definitely agree that bundling up and getting outside in the winter is SO good for the soul 🙂
I LOVE being otudoors when dressed appropriately too. Need to start shopping for more winter hikes/ski gear!

Oh my gosh! My husband and I were just looking for a vest/jacket for our pup and I’m totally getting one of these! Thanks so much for sharing a discount code!
Also, I read above where you said “crowd pleasers” and totally read “Covid pleasers” woof. hahaha.
And one more thing – thanks for continuing to be your authentic, true self. I’ve been following you for close to 10 years now (you were the first blogger I ever followed) and I’ve loved watching you and your brand grow! Your confidence has also really been amazing to watch grow and I love how you are always sharing your true, authentic self. Just the way you speak and write and the posts you’ve been doing the past few years, I truly know you ACTUALLY love something if you’re doing a sponsored post, and that’s so incredibly refreshing.
Just wanted to say I think you’re awesome and thanks for sharing!
So cute! I couldn’t use the code on the boots but got them anyway. Thanks!
