15 THINGS TO DO OUTSIDE THIS WINTER WITH BACKCOUNTRY

Last month, I discussed my philosophy about getting outside no matter what the weather is like! In short, I like to adopt the Scandinavian phrase: “There’s no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothes.” When you’re dressed for the weather, it makes any experience outside that much more enjoyable, whether it’s snowing, below freezing, or raining. It’s important whether you’re skiing down a mountain or just taking your dogs out for a walk! Backcountry is the destination for getting the right gear to enjoy the outdoors.

Right now, you can use code CARLY15 for 15% off your first order (exclusions apply, expires May 2021). And receive 40% Off select styles of Backcountry Gear & Apparel Collection.

I really love this head-to-toe look from Backcountry. It’s cute– but also perfect for getting outdoors and being comfortable for the long haul. Starting with…. THIS COAT!!!! I love a good puffer coat (how I survived winters in college and the first one in NYC without one blows my mind). This is a bit more fashionable than the other puffers I have– it has an asymmetrical zipper and the ivory really pops. But just because it’s fashionable doesn’t mean I have to compromise on the function!

And this sweater is everything you want in a cozy cold-weather sweater. From the fair isle design to the elbow patches!

When you’re getting dressed for the outdoors, it’s easy to remember your coat… but don’t forget about your feet!! In my experience, they’re the first things to get cold as your body pulls heat from your extremities. Plus you never know what kind of terrain you’re going to encounter. I can’t believe I made it this long in life without a pair of Blundstones. I got them last month and, wow, they are amazing!! And I totally get the Blundstone hype– consider me a convert. Super, super comfortable. (Half sizes are for width not length, so if you’re in between I’d go up and add the extra insole that comes with the boots for a “custom” fit.) They get better with every wear!

Basin and Range Cropped Down Puffy Jacket  To build the hype for the cold months ahead, I thought it could be fun to come up with a list of things to do outside this winter– no matter the weather! (Tried to mix these up depending on where you live– I know snow isn’t a reality everywhere!)

As a proud Tasmanian (Blundstones are a Tasmanian company) who grew up wearing and still wears Blundstones, please note they are not called Blundies. Either Blundstones or more often – Blunnies. Never Blundies.

I went camping a bit as a kid but had a traumatic bug bite experience (woke up with both feet COVERED in I think ant bites?) and didn’t go for a very long time. My boyfriend and I recently decided it was our new hobby, bought $1200 dollars worth of gear (the yeti cooler I had to have really was most of that cost) and really embraced “there’s no bad weather, just bad clothing” when we went camping in the mountains at the end of October and handled 31 degree nights with pleasure. Definitely need to look into Blundstone boots for our adventures!

I’ve worn Blundstones for at least 10 years (I think I’m on my 4th pair as I wear them almost every day in the winter and just wear them out!) A suggestion – I wear the men’s sizing as they seem to fit me better than my size in women’s – might be worth a try!
