One downside to the warmer weather… I have to shave my legs every day. Even though I hate the winter, it’s kind of nice to skip a day of shaving and wear a pair of pants. It saves a few minutes in the morning and no one’s the wiser.
For better or for worse, I was “blessed” with my dad’s Jewish genes when it comes to body hair. It’s something that I’ve been mortified by since third grade when I noticed for the first time that my legs were hairier than my friends’. My mom let me use an electric razor in fifth grade I think, before a beach trip, because I was embarrassed about the dark hair. And then I upgraded to the Venus razor in sixth grade (which I have used religiously ever since).
It’s something I think about entirely too much. There are a lot of things that I’ve come to terms with and accepted as just “me” over the years, but the hair is seriously hard to accept. Some times I feel embarrassed for being so concerned about a totally natural thing. And some times I’m just plain embarrassed that no matter what I do, I always have little black dots on my legs.
Honestly, I could shave my legs twice a day and still not ever get super smooth skin. Even when I do shave my legs, my skin is so fair that you can literally still see the little dots. All. The. Time. Oh, and goosebumps? Game over.
As if this wasn’t enough to deal with, I have the most sensitive skin. Even with a good razor, I can end up with red bumps from not using shaving cream and dry, scaly skin if I do use shaving cream. It’s a lose, lose.
Okay… so I found this amazing product and I have to share. It’s changing my whole opinion on shaving. Like 100%, 180 degrees.
It’s some kind of miracle product. I can’t even begin to describe how amazing and cool and game changing this is.
I was gifted the product in a gift bag at the rewardStyle conference. Now, I love L’Occitane. My mom has Verbena soap all over the house. There were great products in the gift bag, some of my favorites in fact. But the oil? No thank you. I’m not an oil girl. Way too messy. I don’t even know what to do with oil.
During a random conversation, one of my friends mentioned how much she loved the oil. She said she used it to shave her legs. (I pictured a mess in the shower…) And that was that. I didn’t think about it again until I was unpacking my bags and remembered I had the oil. I decided to at least give it a try.
Holy moly. The oil. It starts off like a slippery oil and then, when in contact with water, turns to a light foam. Foam! Everything you’d love about a oil (moisturizing, perfect for a close shave) and nothing you’d hate about oil (residue, mess).
This stuff is good and now a personal must-have product.

UGH The terrible 'I have to shave so much more' season. Although I was blessed with blonde hair it's still not fun (it shines in the sun when you don't shave LOL). I may need to try this oil- it seems like it would be great for my skin (I have eczema) . Thanks for this tip!

Probably in the US is different, but in Italy the only way to have really smooth skin is waxing. Plus, it lasts for one week at least and it also weakens hair and they become less visible each time. 🙂
By the way, I really enjoy your blog.

I will have to try that, and I have a suggestion for you. Nair may sound old-school, but I recently tried it again. It doesn't last that much longer than shaving, but it does have some benefits for me. First, I can't ever get my knees hairless and Nair fixes that problem. Second, I also have sensitive skin, especially above the knee (itchy, rashy when I have to shave that high). Nair does not irritate my skin. That said, it makes my bikini line an itchy mess. Start slowly, and work your way up. Ha!
Thanks for the recommendation! I get razor burn when I shave since I have sensitive skin, can't wait to try this!
You should give coconut oil a whirl! Naturally hydrating, super good for your body and the environment, is relatively inexpensive, AND has antifungal and antibacterial properties! This gal has a great run-down: http://www.insonnetskitchen.com/how-to-shave-with-coconut-oil/
Thank you so much for this post! I have the exact same problem and nothing has worked! I'm excited to give this a try!

I use that for shaving, too! It is expensive, but just takes a little.
I love this suggestion! I was scared of oil at first as well, but then I heard that Vitamin E Oil helps decrease the bags under your eyes – I tried it, and it's great! I definitely want to try this oil now.

I just started using a foaming oil as well! I love it!

Oh cool I'm interested to try this! I used baby oil gel for years to shave my legs (less messy than regular oil) and loved how it made my legs feel.

That sounds like such a great product, I'm not crazy about having to hunt something down I can't find in Target though (I'm a cheap-skate like that!) I recently started using coconut oil to shave my legs and they feel great and I get such a close shave. Much more accessible too 🙂

My friend told me he knew a girl that would shave with baby oil. I thought the same thing about being a mess in the shower… still a little worried about it to be honest. But maybe I'll take your word on it and try it out?

Shaving is most commonly practiced by men to remove their facial hair and by women to remove their leg and underarm hair.So a best quality safety razor is very important for men or women.
