BEST SWEATERS FOR WOMEN 2023

I’ll admit it: I need another sweater like I need a hole in my head. Add in the space and maintenance they require, and really I should just consider downsizing my collection. That said, I get a lot of wear out of them and never regret keeping one handy. With cooler days on the horizon, I’ve been itching to pull them out. Until then, I’ll be living vicariously through brands’ campaign imagery and new arrivals. And by rounding up the best sweaters for women! Most of these I own, and a few I just can’t help but have my eye on…. (Side note: I didn’t mean for all of these to come from two sites, but clearly I like what I like.)

Striped Cardigan // Cable Knit Cardigan // Cable Knit V-Neck Cardigan

Chunky Knit Cardigan // Button Back Sweater // Contrast Trim Cardigan

Quarter Zip // Sweater Blazer // Striped Cardigan 2

I’ve gotten so much wear out of this lady jacket recently and it’s been a great transitional piece. (You know I can’t resist a stripe.) You can always find a reason to wear cable knit cardigans like this one. If I get warm, I just throw it over my shoulders and tie the sleeves! This v-neck cable knit is cozy, cozy, cozy, especially with its oversized fit.

I’ve become such a fan of Alex Mill– they truly have some of the best sweaters for women, and at a pretty reasonable price for the quality. This cardigan has a heavier cotton knit you can get away with wearing solo on crisp days early in the season. Another Alex Mill option I love, with the same heavy cotton knit: this sweater. The best detail is definitely the buttons down the back. You can leave some unbuttoned depending on the look you’re going for, or even wear them in the front! I find contrast piping so chic and what I didn’t notice about this cardigan until I zoomed in are the anchors on the buttons! Such a treat.

I love the exaggerated collar on this quarter zip– it’s ideal for “throw on and go” casual outfits for fall. J.Crew has been designing heavily into lady jackets, and honestly? I’m here for it. This is another one that’s been out for a bit but still one of the cutest fall sweaters. Finally, one more from Alex Mill: this striped cardigan! It’s a total classic that you’ll get a ton of wear out of.

A few more I couldn’t add to the collage but own and have to share:

I have had the Alex Mill chunky cardigan languishing in my cart for two weeks now…Do you have any tips on sizing?!

I went up a size for an oversized look, but if you want a fitted cardigan (like it’s shown on the website) I’d go with your normal size!

This is a great curated list of classic sweaters, but I must say, the first sentence of this post was jarring to read: “like I need a hole in my head.” Is this a common saying that people use that I am just unaware of? The phrasing makes me uncomfortable, and there are ways to express a similar sentiment that better fit the topic and purpose of this post.
