Cute Face Masks

Wearing face masks seemed like such an abstract idea back in March. (I even had someone block me on Instagram for even suggesting it– seems like a lifetime ago!) From what I’m gathering from Instagram DMs, it really seems geo-specific on whether people are actually wearing face masks. Up here in New Jersey, as things are largely opening back up, face masks are not only encouraged, they’re required. I’m no epidemiologist, but at the very least it makes me feel slightly more “in control” and I’m grateful for that.

It’s also crazy how quickly you can adjust to wearing them, but to seeing them. I think Mike and I made it to the eight week mark before we had to make our first grocery store run. I went to Whole Foods and seeing everyone in their masks (after literally not going anywhere but our house!) was jarring– I felt like I had reemerged into another world. Now? Feels completely normal! The only time I really notice it is when I see someone wearing a particularly cute mask 😂

I have been sewing my own, but it’s definitely worth having a bunch since they need to be washed. If they’re the new normal, why not stock up on some cute ones?

In a Colorado, it’s also pretty geo specific as well – one town in my county makes it mandatory, other businesses make it mandatory and I’ve also experienced some controversy as well (my response is that I’ve lived in Japan so I’m used to it, given that it’s a part of their culture for lack of a better word to wear a mask when someone is feeling sick to protect others). My son is 3 and while it’s a little jarring to see that he equates “going in the shopping cart” with wearing a mask, I know that it will help provide a modicum of protection, and helps keep me sane (because when we are bored, we just go to Target or somewhere similar, I put him in the shopping cart to limit his touching after wiping it down and spraying it with alcohol and we just wander around). Have you seen the masks by Oatmeal Lace? They have adorable ones, including ones that are chambray and monogrammed – they always sell out and I finally got one.

I love supporting Etsy artists/crafters. I wanted to buy cat print face masks, and found just what I wanted at the Etsy shop, MyBitOfWonder. I bought 5 masks. They are darling and beautifully made. I feel like my cat print face mask is my new fashion accessory and I do get compliments on it when I am out and about.

Love these! One of my favorite indie crafters Marley (moonandjuneco on IG) is making some that are so cute – and she’s only 18 years old and makes the cutest zipper bags normally. Highly recommend!
