Remember the days of layering tons of bracelets, wearing heavy statement necklaces, and stacking chunky watches? I loved it as much as the next girl, but now I’m all about simple, nice pieces.
I think that understated jewelry actually says a lot, and right now I’m more interested in investing in nice things I can wear forever than stocking up on a ton of cheap things.
On occasion, I will wear a fun statement (like fun earrings) with a basic outfit, but for the most part, I’m keeping things super simple with studs, a necklace, a bracelet, a watch, and maybe a ring.
I didn’t include it in my yearly goals, but I am seriously trying to “edit” my entire wardrobe, and I think the jewelry I’ve been wearing is a huge part of it. I’m simplifying everything and trying only to keep (and purchase) classic pieces that I truly love and can wear for various purposes.
I’ve rounded up some great, classic pieces:
I totally agree with you on not wanting to stock up on cheap things. Cheap jewelry often doesn’t last for more than a year and I feel like I’m just throwing away. Plus, I love having classic pieces that I know I can keep and wear forever!

I cannot even count how many pairs of cheap earrings I have! I probably have more than a hundred, but I don’t end up wearing any of them because I don’t value them. I really need to get my hands on some classic pieces.

Check out the earring collection at Barney’s NY. They have beautiful earrings!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Kate Spade bow earrings. I own them in gold, silver, and black (along with the matching bangles, of course!). They are such a staple piece and make every outfit look classic. Love the list you compiled, Carly!

Kate Spade makes beautiful costume jewelry. I like the enamel pieces best. Check out my mini Kate Spade earring collection at http://www.wannabeliz.com .
Like the idea! 🙂 I have only a few pieces of jewellery, which I received as gifts. Everytime I wear something, it reminds me of the giver and the occasion. It’s like having my family with me all the time.
I’ve always been a fan of minimal jewelry 🙂 Love the gorjana chaplin stud earrings, but in silver! -Audrey | Brunch at Audrey’s
Completely agree about understated Jewelry. Really like your choices and how classic they are!

I can definitely see the appeal of dainty jewels, but I often feel they’re too delicate for me. I have been wearing layers of bracelets for years and years – certainly before “arm candy” became a thing. Layered jewels is a classic look in my books.
I love the look of understated and simple jewelry. I wear the same pieces almost everyday (pearl earrings, my wedding ring, and a Tiffany diamond pendent necklace). I love this clean and simple look.
I would love to hear more about “editing” your closet. I think that is a really great goal, especially for a blogger!

Carly, I am obsessed with dainty jewelry! While like you I see the place for large jewelry, I love the small look!
Me too! I always feel chicer with a few well curated pieces!
I am much more of a simple jewelry person too! I wear the same earrings every day and my delicate rings. It’s just so classic!

I have a pair of those Kate Spade bow studs and I wear them nearly every day. Understated jewelry is really great because it gives you a lot of flexibility to layer without it getting overwhelming – I have two simple necklaces that I wear together all the time, and since they’re both so simple, they complement each other really nicely. Love this list you’ve put together!

I have been on the search for a simple classic watch FOREVER it feels like! I love that Kate spade one but I’m just so indecisive, but I was thinking, maybe a Daniel Wellington. I want one I can wear with any classic everyday kind of outfit. What watch do you wear?
I have a vintage cartier that I absolutely cherish! But I would definitely trust your gut and maybe try a few on!
I love this! Pearls are my everyday jewelry for sure!

Have you heard of Stella &a Dot? I am a stylist for them and they have a lot of different pieces that put a twist on a classic piece of jewelry! I always have something on from them! http://www.stelladot.com/Staceyweigel
All of these jewelry pieces are so pretty. Right now I am so into small and petite jewelry and I am obsessed with dogeared necklaces. I love the small diamond solitaire pendant necklace, it is gorgeous!

I’m on the hunt for a good, quality pair of pearl stud earrings. Any suggestions?
H Stern has a beautiful pearl studs. The collection is called Pearls of Genesis.
Love this! I’m obsessed with dainty and gold jewelry. The lion stone studs are so cute! I definitely need them in my collection.
Amen to stocking up on classic jewelry pieces! Love all of your picks!

Hi Carly! I really enjoy your blog ! I’m glad you are interested in buying nicer jewelry.
I am a fine jewelry fanatic! Please look at my blog http://www.wannabeliz.com . I feel that I give good advice on purchasing fine jewelry. I don’t want others to make the same costly mistakes I made. Earring weight has a lot to do with wearability.
I knew those first earrings had to be J. Crew! I wore a very similar pair for my wedding several years ago! Love the look of so many of these. I feel like many of them will maintain their classic look for years and one day be passed along to future children.
I’m right there with you. I just donated probably 75% of my jewelry collection. I still have a few statement pieces, but on most days I just gravitate toward my silver or gold monogram necklace. I haven’t even put in earrings in weeks! Simple is better for so many reasons. Fewer, well curated pieces make it easier to get dressed, for one thing!
Your jewelry picks are cute. I make nature inspired hand made jewelry using a lot of long lasting tarnish resistant gold filled pieces with precious stones http://www.kblossoms.etsy.com
You have great taste in jewelry! And specially love the bow earrings, i have the same piece! You must checkout Arvino, you will love it!
