HOSPITAL BAG PACKING LIST AS A SECOND TIME MOM

I felt a burst of energy and filmed a Reel with my hospital bag packing list this time around as a second time mom. Before I had Jack, I personally found the lists by “seasoned” moms to be the most helpful– they’d already been through delivery at least once and packed more simply after. Even though I feel like I kept things pretty minimal, the bag still got filled quite quickly! Ultimately I’d rather have something I want/need than wish I had it, but I still didn’t feel overwhelmed by the amount of stuff.

(Here’s what I packed the first time around.)

HOSPITAL BAG PACKING LIST AS A SECOND TIME MOM

carly riordan hospital bag checklist with llbean navy XL boat and tote, chappywrap all my heart fog mini blanket, sprinkled with pink seersucker embroidered set of packing cubes and makeup bag, and navy dooney and bourke toiletry bag

BAGS:

Having these really helped keep everything organized. If I needed something, it was easy to ask Mike to grab a certain pouch instead of fishing around in the tote for loose items.

Tote (XL, regular handles)

Packing Cubes

Seersucker Cosmetic Pouch

Makeup Bag

Similar Small Pouch

FOR MOM:

This is definitely the longest part of my hospital bag checklist. Giving birth can be obviously be painful and my main priority was comfort, before and after.

Camera (here’s the camera I use + some tips for taking better photos of your children)

Kindle

Personal bag for labor: eye mask, chapstick, hair scrunchie, AirPods, vanity set, long phone charger, gum)

Toiletries: (my everyday makeup, makeup remover wipes, mini hair brush, new toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, postnatal vitamins, Colace, deodorant, face wash, lip mask, shampoo/conditioner/body wash, face wash, lotion, etc.)

Shower Shoes

Long sleeved dark pajama set

Maternity underwear

Disposable underwear

My favorite nursing bras

Oversized cardigan

Going home outfit (button down, tank top, sweatpants, socks, clogs)

FOR BABY:

Your hospital bag packing list doesn’t really need anything for the baby. Thankfully the hospital supplies everything they might need, so these are all extras!

Blanket for going home

Personalized onesie for photos

Long sleeve sleeper for going home

Velcro swaddle

SOO excited for you!!!!! I’m not usually so genuinely excited for people on the internet but I am for you! You are going to do amazing and this baby boy is so lucky to have you and an amazing big brother! The brotherly bond is so special as you know from having your sister.

I remember bringing the baby book so they could put the footprints in? Not sure if this is still a thing.

Consider this as a post idea: pros and cons of having a summer vs. winter baby. There’s obviously no “best time” to have a baby, but curious to know subjectively & objectively what you liked and disliked about having babies during opposite seasons. Best of luck as you reach your due date. xx
