HOW TO KEEP YOUR KITCHEN MAT STRAIGHT

We have the best kitchen mat. It’s from House of Noa and it is a game changer for standing and cooking. I love the look of rugs, but I just don’t find them to be practical solutions for kitchens. We cook a lot. (By “we,” I mean Mike, but I still spend a good amount of time in the kitchen.) Our kitchen has a pretty open layout and when we moved in I started looking for the right size mat that would go with the space.

House of Noa actually sent me this mat after I shared that I bought the yoga mat. It was such a generous offer and the mat ended up being 100% perfect for our kitchen. We are OBSESSED with it. It’s the perfect combination of function and beauty. It doesn’t “scream” kitchen mat, but it’s so much more comfortable than a rug… and a lot easier to deal with the inevitable spills and messes.

My only issue with the mat is that it slipped and slid all around, all the time. It was super easy to straighten out, but left to its own devices, it would be halfway to Timbuktu by lunchtime. I would line it up nicely at least a few times a day just to get it level again. But it’s such a heavily trafficked area between us and the dogs that it would scoot out of place in a matter of minutes.

HOW TO KEEP YOUR KITCHEN MAT STRAIGHT

My Instagram friend (we live two towns apart but have yet to “officially” meet because of the pandemic!) Laura gave me the BEST TIP because she also has the kitchen mat. I ordered the product literally immediately…. and it WORKS.

HOW TO KEEP YOUR KITCHEN MAT STRAIGHT | where to buy rug grippers

These rug grippers are designed to help keep rug corners from curling up, but they work perfectly for holding House of Noa mats in place. Hallelujah! The grips are incredibly easy to install. Install is actually too intense of a word; you just peel and stick on the four corners. Then place the mat where you want it and the grips kind of act as a flat suction cup. It. Does. Not. Move. (You can easily lift the mat if you need to reposition or clean under it, but it’s not going to slip and slide without you purposefully moving it.)

100% recommend.

This is great! I used to have a flatwoven rug in the kitchen, and it would slide all around. Now I might be able to get something to replace it, and keep it in place!

This is amazing timing because I just got a long kitchen rug and it’s driving me so crazy, slipping and sliding everything, that I was just about to go repurpose it to a different area lol I will definitely be getting these instead!

Ordered immediately! We have the same mat and I LOVE it but I’ve tried everything to not get it to slide 100 times a day. 🤞this works.

Love these mats and a great tip. I don’t seem to have the slippage on a porcelain tile kitchen floor but in our east coast house with a wooden floor I use rug grippers. Looks really nice in your kitchen!

I don’t think I’ve ever been more excited for a blog post haha. I bought a kitchen mat back when they were doing their kickstarter campaign a few years ago and emailed them about the fact that their mats slide all over! They are perfect in every way except that one detail and I’m so excited for these rug grippers!

I have those! I use the grip squares on every rug in our house and they do totally work. I saw them in my insta feed and thought “eh, why not try them?” and I do totally recommend them.

I love that you have this mat! Fun story – I actually bought one of these when House of Noa was on KICKSTARTER! We use it in our laundry room because of how easy it is to clean, but would love to eventually put one in the kitchen when we redo it! Padded mats like this also help when you’re standing at the stove, sink or wherever to help reduce spider veins/varicose veins especially when pregnant! 🙂

Hi! The Amazon link isn’t working for these rug grippers, can you please tell us the brand and type you purchased? Thanks!

Is this still working for you? I just bought a House of Noa mat, and the scooting around is making me crazy! I tried some rug tape that is so super sticky, but it doesn’t stick to the mat at all, though it sticks like crazy to the wood.

our cleaners used something on it that made the stick disappear a little bit, but otherwise yes!
