I’m putting this out there because I’ve already been planning on whipping my out in the very near feature… It’s totally the time to get Bean Boots. Seriously, you might find yourself wanting them in a few weeks, so order them now!
I remember my dad was telling me that I needed these “duck boots” before I went to Georgetown. They were certainly nothing like I had ever seen in Florida. Ever. I scoffed at him and laughed that anyone would ever wear those “weird” shoes. He bought me a pair (the mocs!) for my birthday my freshman year and I was still horrified. However, I wore them at least once a week from October to May… every. single. year.
I hate to admit it, but my dad was right. Rawr.
It can be tricky to pick out which pair you’re going to get. Here’s a breakdown:
Moccasins | I love mine. They’re great for slipping into on lazy mornings and wearing with patterned socks when it’s cold. I wore these all the time for crew practices and regattas.
Gumshoes | These are a great pick if you’re not sure what size to get. They’re low. And easy. A great medium between the 6″ and the mocs. Little V had a pair that I would borrow.
6″ | These were my second pair… obsessed. Perfect for slouchy socks and tucking into skinny jeans. I like that these are definitely made more so for the elements.
8″ | If you’re in a snowier climate, you might consider the higher boot. I personally think the six inches feel more comfortable and hit my leg at a better point, but you definitely get more pant coverage with the eight inchers!

I've never seen them before (actually, never paid attention, I think is more the case) and the first pictures sort of explains why, but seeing them styled up, they look really good and an amazing fall staple! Hmm… 🙂

Happiness truly is waterproof boots on a rainy day. I agree the 6" are perfect, though I do have some knee-high Sorel boots for deepest winter.
I don't have a pair of bean boots, but I think they are really cute and perfect for fall! I think that I would go with the 6 inch pair too 🙂

Lovelovelove Bean Boots! I have the 8" Bison Boots, and I'm obsessed! They're a little bit more expensive than the regular kind, but they're a little edgier/more unique, and I get TONS of compliments on them! If I could have every pair of Bean Boots out there, I would.
Biggest piece of advice when ordering: size down! I'm normally a 7/7.5 in shoes and I got the smallest size they have. They're perfect, and still have plenty of room in the toe box.
These are made right in my hometown, Brunswick, Maine! I think everyone in my family has at least two pairs.
The 6 " bean boots are on my Christmas list. I think they are so cute, definitely perfect for college.

I have the 6" in tan and navy and can't say enough about them. I wear them on my commute (in Boston), in rain, in snow, in chance of rain, and have been known to rock them even out at bars/restaurants in truly crappy weather.
The first pair is a bit of an investment, but LL Bean has a guarantee for life! Also, these tend to go to backorder closer to the holidays, so early ordering is recommended!!

I always wore rubber rain boots for regattas, and the 8" boots for winter frolicking, but I think I'm going to get the 10" lined boots for this winter though 🙂

Bean boots are perfect for days when you don't want to commit to the full-on rain boot but still want warmth and protection from mud and puddles! Great call addressing them now because, as others mentioned, they're impossible to track down come Christmastime backorders.
I got a pair of insulated bean boots last year for Christmas and wore them on set all the time. It was the most amazing gift, I hate that as I get older practical gifts become more and more appealing.
i have always wanted a pair of these but would get no use out of them in san diego. the 8in navy ones have been calling my name though.
Everyone says size down. I was eyeing them, but I wear a 6 1/2 and the smallest they have is 6. Thanks for the pics, I was trying to decide between 6" and 8"!

I've been hesitating to commit to a pair of bean boots, only because I'm torn between the mocs and the 6". I'm sure once rainy season comes, I'll be more inclined to make a decision… Tempted to just get both and call it a day 🙂

I can't decide which size to get! I live in Utah, so the 8" would be better for the snow, but my parents live in California, so the 6" would be more versatile! These are so great – they never go out of style.
Everyone is right on the sizing down suggestion! One more suggestion; buy the sherpa liners if you get the mocs. They are super warm and cozy! They also helped with the fit since the size 6 was still a little large on me.
Can't wait to get a pair of the 6". They remind me of New England (where I'm from) so I really love them. Great post!

I wore mine all through college and still break them out every now and then during grad school. They really are a lifesaver when it gets crazy snowy in the Midwest!

I think bean boots are the cutest things ever! I'll admit,when I first saw them I wasn't intrigued. Now they're on my Christmas list! I'm definitely going for the 8" navy ones 🙂
I can't decide between the 6 inch and the 8 inch. I really like the navy in the 8 inch but I'm worried they will be too high on my leg. Also do they offer navy in the 6 inch?

What height are the ones in your first and second picture!?
For girls under 5' 8" (I'm 5'10") you should definitely get the 6" for the most versitility and also they're cute in the fall on overcast or rainy days. If you're taller the 8" will do you just fine. The 10" lined ones might be best for Chicago/Wisconsin/Michigan/upstate NY/west or north new Engalnd but any serious snowfall you may want to consider sorrels or another brand for warmth in deep snow.
As for your second pair, the gum shoes are cute on tall girls and moccasins just all around if you are so inclined with patterned socks!

how are the 6" duck boots on warmth? I just purchased a pair for a ski trip to Utah in January. I realize a lot of it depends on the socks worn with them, I was just wondering if they were cold weather-friendly in addition to wet weather-friendly?
