We have lived in our house for over three years, and I finally feel like we’re making progress on making this house our “home.” I have a hard time figuring out anything when it comes to interiors. A big problem is that I need to really live in the space to know the space and… I have decision paralysis!! So sometimes I just avoid deciding anything. Hunter Douglas reached out about outfitting a couple of our rooms with window treatments and I jumped at the opportunity. It was such a great experience and I can’t recommend working with the brand enough. It solved so many of the problems I face as an indecisive homeowner, with amazing results at the end. We focused on two of the spaces we use the most: our family room and the guest room, which doubles as my office!
To get a full understanding of everything Hunter Douglas has to offer, customers meet with an authorized dealer for a consultation. They can help you make all the right choices for your home and your lifestyle. This to me was such a huge benefit. (Again, decision paralysis!!!) My in-home consultation was crucial for me as the dealer was able to see what kinds of fabrics and designs we have in the house already and look at the windows first-hand. He was able to guide me with what he thought would work best for both my style and also what would realistically work for each window.
With Hunter Douglas, there are so many choices to decide from colors, materials and textures to the selection between light filtering or blackout, inside mount or outside mount. Plus all the different types of operating systems.
The dealer was also to measure my exact windows. This is not a strength of mine so having an expert inside my home measuring the windows precisely was amazing. He was able to get every window measurement just right so I knew everything would be correct when the custom shades arrived!
I chose Vignette Modern Roman Shades in Prairie linen for both the family room and our office as I loved how light and airy they were. I went with a warmer linen (Lynx) for the family room to pull in the textures and warmth from the rest of the space. Because we are thinking about painting the walls of the guest room, we chose a more neutral linen (Dove). In the living room we selected a light filtering shade so we have privacy but don’t block out too much light, but for the guest room we went with a room darkening shade to make sleeping a dream!
After walking through all the options that would work for our family room and guest room, I knew I wanted to go with Hunter Douglas’ cordless PowerView Automation. I especially wanted the cordless option because operating cords are one of the top five hidden hazards in American homes according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. Cordless operation is the safest choice for homes with infants and young children (and also pets)!
The PowerView Automation is the coolest feature. Each room has its own remote so we can close and open all the shades (or individually) with the click of a button. You can also download the app and create “scenes” so that your window treatments open and close automatically depending on your settings. (For example, we can have our living room shades close every evening at 7pm and automatically open at 7am to start the day!)
I have hung my fair share of things over the years and it never ceases to stress me out. (Behind every hung frame is about six extraneous holes…) Your custom Hunter Douglas window treatments are delivered to your home and professionally installed! It was so nice knowing that my shades were going to be the exact right size (professionally measured!) and properly installed. After the shades were hung, the installers also set up the PowerView Automation remotes and walked me through how to set up scenes within the Hunter Douglas PowerView app.
They were so fast and professional! I couldn’t believe how quickly they were in and out and everything was done just perfectly. We were able to immediately enjoy our family room and guest room– they each felt like brand new spaces!
We are just so happy with how it all turned out! Find a Hunter Douglas dealer near you to get started.
