On My Radar

I’m definitely experiencing some jet lag this week. I’m not a good traveler by nature, and I think I was running purely on adrenaline (well that and espresso) while in Paris. Now it’s all catching up with me.

Other than drowsiness, I had an otherwise productive week. I just love crossing things off my list and getting things done, tired or not. And extra exciting and also crazy to even think about: I’m heading to DC tonight for my five-year college reunion! FIVE YEARS. In so many ways it feels like maybe six months and then again it feels like a lifetime ago.

Anywayyy… I think Paris was the official start to a crazy summer season of traveling. I’m ready though, I think.

Hello Summer

Letter Board

Here’s what has been on my radar this week:

ONE // Nyakim Gatwech

All I can say is wow. I read a few articles about Nyakim Gatwech, a South Sudanese model, and was so blown away by her beautiful skin. It’s crazy to think that she used to be teased for it or that people had the nerve to ask her if she’d ever want to change! You just have to take a peek at her Instagram!

TWO // Youngest Scripps National Spelling Bee Competitor

More girl power over here. -Six-year-old Edith Fuller is the youngest person ever to qualify for the Scripps National Spelling Bee. I don’t know what I’m more impressed by: her ability to spell or her ability to keep her cool under pressure at just six years old! The craziest part is that she qualified when she was just five. Go, Edith!

THREE // Abercrombie Dress

The white eyelet dress I wore in Paris is now on sale for under $30. It’s a really great purchase and feels like a much more expensive dress than it is. The lining is great, the straps are adjustable, the smocked back creates a perfect back, and there are pockets. It just doesn’t get better than that!

FOUR // Saving Money by Ditching SkyMall

I used to love flipping through SkyMall catalogs on flights as a kid. Since SkyMall went bankrupt, airlines are ditching the magazines, and they can save hundreds of thousands of dollars from the newly lightened load. I remember reading about airlines removing one olive from salads they served on board (or something like this!) and how much money they ended up saving by reducing the cost of the salad by one olive. I’m fascinated by how small changes can lead to big savings over time.

FIVE // Most Talked About Thing in Therapy

Google’s former in-house therapist revealed the number one thing most people talk about in therapy… and it’s kind of surprising.

SIX // Create & Cultivate’s Job Listings

I subscribe to C&C’s RSS feed, and they occasionally post job listings. They always sound so interesting! If you’re looking for a job, or a possible career change, check these out!

SEVEN // Darci Farmer the Ventriloquist

Okay, I have to admit that I was crying by the end of this video. Darci, a 12-year-old from Oklahoma, just nailed her audition for America’s Got Talent. I really have no words for it other than to encourage you to watch it. She is incredibly talented.

Anything fun on your radar this week?

I absolutely love Abercrombie deals. Who knew they had the cutest clothes for the best prices? We should be so lucky!!

Much love,

Great start to the Friday! Loved so much that you shared – thanks!

Have so much fun at your reunion!!! I went to my 5-year this April and it was such a trip! Enjoy it!!

Little changes do add up! I started saving all $5 bills that I would receive as change and not spend them. I actually opened a separate savings account and its amazing how fast those little guys add up!

I went into a cosmetics store one time and the lady asked me if I was looking for a concealer to cover up my freckles…HELL NO I’M NOT! I love my freckles and also, I am completely covered…I can’t afford that much concealer. It amazes me what people assume just because it’s not the norm…it’s lovely to see how proud she is of her skin color despite negative comments from idiots. She is a wonderful role model for women!

Have fun at your reunion, Carly! I also graduated FIVE years ago and it is so so crazy!
I am so glad you said that about the Abercrombie dress. I saw it on sale this past weekend and bought it on a whim. Now I can’t wait to wear it!

I love how two of your radar posts are about Oklahoma girls! We’re FINALLY getting some positive media attention down/over here.

Carly, I have no words for the video in the best possible way! I was crying at the end too!

I’m still trying to get over the 3 hr jetlag from the west coast to the east coast; adjusting from PST to EST is so difficult, but EST to PST is pretty easy 😛 // omg your collection of classics is gorgeous // Love the Abercrombie eyelet dress in yellow! -Audrey | Brunch at Audrey’s
