Bah! I’m so excited to share this outfit. I tend to stick to my comfort zone when I’m buying clothes, but when I saw this dress I was instantly drawn to it! Even though it’s not what I normally would go for, I feel great in it.
I love it so much, in fact, that I thought it would be fun to show how it can be worn in two ways.
At first, I was a little nervous to wear the dress without anything underneath it. As I was scrolling through J. Crew Factory’s new arrivals, I spotted this ruffle sleeve shirt and thought it’d be perfect to layer under the dress. It gives just enough coverage, and the ruffles are a cute touch with the straps.
I kept this look pretty casual and simple; it’s what I’d wear on an everyday basis. It’d work for school or a daytime weekend event. I wore wedges for the photos, but I could definitely see myself opting for flats if I was going to school or running around town.
When I pulled the dress out of the package, I tried it on without the shirt first. As I mentioned, I wasn’t sure that I would want to wear it without a top. (Frankly, I think I was most afraid that I wouldn’t be able to pull it off.) But, omg, I LOVE it. Again, it’s a little different from what I typically go for, but I was feeling it.
When I purchase items of clothing, it’s important that I’ll be able to get a lot of use out of it. This dress can transform into a few different looks, and that gets two thumbs up from me.
For accessories, I tied this Parisian scarf around my neck and added a pearl cluster bracelet.
J. Crew Factory always has a great selection of clothing and accessories at can’t-resist prices. This makes it, in my opinion, a great stop for back to school shopping. Whether you’re heading back to school as a teacher or a student, you can build great head-to-toe looks.
Right now, students and teachers can take an additional 15% off their orders through September 30th. This is always available in stores, but they’re offering it online through the end of September for your back-to-school shopping!
A few must haves for teachers: ruffle sleeve top, business casual pants, wool dress with pockets, d’Orsay flats, 5-star rated cardigans, and a printed shirt dress.
For students: ruffled tank, embroidered shirt, basic tees (these are hands down my favorite t-shirts), printed skirt, skinny jeans, puffer vest, and twill jacket.

Such a cute outfit! It isn’t something that I would normally wear either but I think it is absolutely darling! Definitely makes me want to try dressing outside my comfort zone.

I love this outfit on you, Carly!! That Parisian scarf is too cute… I may have to scoop it up while students get a discount 😉 XO, Nicole
Cute dress! I feel like the top is fitting enough to wear comfortably without another shirt underneath, but it’s always fun changing outfits up by switching up the shirt underneath! -Audrey | Brunch at Audrey’s
Love that you showed how versatile the dress is despite being out of your comfort zone! I just got home from France and I’m so tempted to snap up that J. Crew scarf, too.

Love your blog. Would love to see more madras plaids, as they prep things up too. I saw some beautiful ones at http://fabriconlinestore.com, and would love to see some dresses made of those.
