Sharing a few recent shows and movies I’ve watched. Some old, some new… Mike and I are currently watching The Good Place together and we’re excited for the new season of Ted Lasso, too. Would love to know if there’s anything out there that I must watch… either alone or with Mike. Always on the hunt for good shows!
MY RECENT WATCHES
NEW GIRL (Netflix)
What kind of rock have I been living under???? I totally missed the New Girl hype when it first came out. But rest assured I just spent the last few months watching it in its entirety. I loved it so much… I might just restart it from the beginning. It’s the perfect “feel good” show that I was craving. I watched it a lot at night while needlepointing and it always brought a smile to my face! I loved the quirkiness of the characters– and the character development throughout the seasons! Again, why did it take me so long to get into it????
CRUEL SUMMER (Freeform)
There has been so much hype around this teen drama thriller series that takes place over the course of a few years in the 90s. The plot is about a group of teens as they navigate the lead up and fall out of one of the girls being held captive by a kidnapper. I wanted to know what all the fuss was about so I, naturally, watched it all. Honestly, it’s not good. Terrible acting. Cheesy lines. Ridiculous plot. Lots of bad wigs. But I still watched it all? So…. take my opinion with a grain of salt. (Though maybe a 31 year old isn’t exactly the target audience, ha!)
THE HANDMAID’S TALE (Hulu)
So I watched seasons one and two of The Handmaid’s Tale and loved both. It’s SUCH a difficult show to watch at times, but I have to say I think it’s one of the most thought-provoking shows out there. Every time I watch an episode, I am absolutely sick to my stomach… and come back for more. (If you’re not familiar with it, it’s based on Margaret Atwood’s novel of the same name. It is a dystopian future of what the United States would be like if the government was overthrown by a religious group after some sort of civil war/revolution.
Apparently I thought this would be a good show to pick back up after January’s insurrection…. and while I’m pregnant? I had some insane dreams while catching up on seasons three and four. My friends fall into two camps for this show: absolutely love it or absolutely can’t watch it. It took me a few tries to get into the first episode because it made me feel so sick, but I’m ultimately glad I watched it and stuck it out.
MY OCTOPUS TEACHER (Netflix)
My mom and sister highly recommended this documentary on Netflix. It’s a beautiful work of art really. A free diver befriends an octopus in a kelp forest off the coast of South Africa. I know what you’re thinking: How does someone befriend an octopus. But it’s true– he really does! It’s an absolutely heartwarming view of the underwater world. (Be prepared to cry though…. I definitely choked up!) You must watch it if you haven’t already!
Such a variety of shows!! Thanks for sharing!

My husband and I both 100% loved the show “I’m Sorry.”
I forgot to mention “I’m Sorry.” Such sharp and funny writing!
I love all those shows! I rec “Never Have I Ever.” “Mare of Easttown” “Four Weddings and a Funeral” (the series) “Atypical” “The Act” “Unbelievable.” “Shrill” “Grace and Frankie” “Halston”
I will have to check some of these out! I love 3rd Rock from the sun. Watched a marathon on network tv (RIP, Sunday 😂).Also available on Netflix.
Third Rock is a gem. Just as funny now as it was when I was eleven. A few of those shows I mentioned are mini-series and very binge-worthy.
Omg I just binged Mare of Eastown in one sitting not even joking. So good!!
I love Masterpiece shows – The Durrells in Corfu, All things Great and Small, Miss Scarlet – 3 really good series.
I highly recommend Better Call Saul (prequel to Breaking Bad—also a good one). Such great acting, plot, & character development.
Hands down best show I’ve seen in a while – The Durrells in Corfu. You will LOVE it! Each episode just makes you feel good inside. Great dialogue, cute stories and sweet people. Based on true story.
Superstore on Hulu! Incredibly funny writing. And episodes are short.
Never Have I Ever on Netflix – season 2 just came out! Such a fun and cute teen show.
We watched The Banker on Apple TV. Excellent film. Watched it back to back.
Manifest is really good, and so is Madam Secretary. If you haven’t gotten into the Great British Baking Show hype yet, you should! Very heartwarming.
Dead to Me on Netflix. I put off watching but when I walk on the treadmill I need a show to watch so I decided to check it out and I am glad I did. I think y you and Mike would enjoy.
Just started Schmigadoon on Apple TV and it’s great! Have to wait for new episodes to come out though
Starstruck on HBO Max has been flying under the radar, but it’s becoming one of my favorite comedies. Hilarious and heartfelt!
The hubby and I have gotten really into AP Bio. It is absolutely hilarious. And the episodes are pretty short, so you can get through them quickly or just watch and not feel like your whole evening is gone lol
I’ll have to look into some of them! Third Rock from the Sun is my favorite.
My Octopus Teacher is such a beautiful documentary!
