SHOWS, PODCASTS, AND MOVIES I’VE RECENTLY WATCHED

I typically share the books that I read, but while I took some time off of work after finishing holiday campaigns and the beginning of 2025 I ended up watching a bunch of movies and shows and also listening to a couple of podcasts. Especially watching the movies, it felt like such a nice escape. I love movies and don’t dedicate enough time to watching them post-having kids (or maybe it’s post-downloading TikTok 🤪).

Okay here are some of the things that I watched and listened to that I thought were worth sharing!

MOVIES:

Wicked | Obviously this is/was probably the movie of the year so I’m not reporting anything groundbreaking here. But wow I really loved it so much. Will be buying this and adding it to my “movies to rewatch over and over again” repertoire. I had high expectations and was really trying to go in with no spoilers. (I had been avoiding as much as I could online until I got in to watch it!) It was 100x better than I ever could have imagined. I LOVED it. I was having a bad week when I went to see it and it was truly the perfect three hour mental escape. The costumes, the music, the set design. Love, love love.

A Complete Unknown | Mike really loves Bob Dylan’s music, so this movie was at the top of our list of movies to watch together. We actually got a babysitter (big for us!) and went to go see it. I went to have fun with Mike because I knew he wanted to see it and then I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it. I loved the music (turns out I knew so much more of the music than I realized because Mike plays it all the time). I thought Elle Fanning and Timothée Chalamet were both excellent!

Stuck In Love | This is an older movie, but I was seeing it pop up on TikTok so I added it to my “to watch” list on my phone. I kind of randomly decided to watch it one night when I was needlepointing and craving a movie. It was really good and I get why people rewatch it a lot. People watch it around Thanksgiving and I may take up the tradition too!

Nightbitch | Wow this was a powerful movie about motherhood. It’s based on a book and I went into it blind… there were some weird parts as it dips into surrealism. Stick. With. It. Though. If you’re in the “trenches” of motherhood or if you’ve been in the trenches before, I think the film will really resonate with you, especially if you feel like you’ve lost yourself in motherhood.

PODCASTS:

Giggly Squad | While I wish I had gotten into this podcast sooner, I am glad to have a whole archive of episodes to listen to. It’s such a fun podcast and I just laugh so hard while listening to it. I don’t watch the Bravo shows that the hosts were on, so I can attest that you don’t really need to know the backstories to dive in. It’s just fun, girly, and highly entertaining.

Telepathy Tapes | Whoa. Telepathy Tapes blew my mind. It’s about non-verbal autistic children with telepathic abilities. I went in skeptical but intrigued and by the end I was sobbing? It is worth a listen in my opinion.

SHOWS:

Call the Midwife | I started Call the Midwife when I had Rory last year and I finally caught up through the entire series! What a ride. I fell in love with the characters and the storylines so much. It’s a true comfort show and I understand why CTM has such a cult following. I had people ask me if it was triggering and while I absolutely think it could be for some women, I personally found it so empowering. There was an episode that I could really relate to and while on paper it might have been triggering, I actually just felt so “seen.” I cried and it was surprisingly healing to not feel so alone. The only thing that was tough for me was that there are scenes where newborn babies cry and when Rory still had a newborn cry, I would think he was crying and have a full body reaction!

Nobody Wants This | Everyone and their mother was talking about this show and I was into the hype too. I also just love Adam Brody (Seth Cohen forever 🫶🏻). It’s funny, lighthearted, and like a good ole romantic comedy series about modern dating. Really easy to breeze through the episodes. My sister and I both loved it.

Shrinking | Mike and I have been watching this together and loving it. (He might kill me but he definitely cries every other episode.) It’s sweet and super heartfelt and funny at the same time.

Glitter and Greed: The Lisa Frank Story | Whew! My sister and our family friends were so obsessed with Lisa Frank as kids, we had a Lisa Frank club and everything. I had read some articles about Lisa Frank sharing some of the darker parts of the brand and I was interested in watching the docuseries about it on Hulu. I totally forgot about it and then it popped up as a recommended show. Mike had taken the boys on a little adventure and I ordered take out, sat on the couch, and watched TV. It was the perfect show to just mindlessly watch.
