A couple of weeks ago I was in the city for a few meetings. I’ve been trying to limit the number of days I commute in by packing my days with back-to-back appointments. It can get a little crazy but feels appropriate for the big apple. (I turn into a logistics queen as I schedule my day and map out where I need to be when.)
I picked up this little tweed skirt from J. Crew– it’s perfect for the weather we’re having right now. A small nod to fall with bare legs to still stay cool. (It’s been so warm, and I’m not going to complain because I know winter is coming.)
It runs a little bit big, so I’d go down a size or two if you can. I’m wearing a 00 and probably could take it in a little bit on the side, so it doesn’t bubble out so much. There is elastic in the back though so it’s forgiving.
The skirt can be worn with quite a number tops and colors. I went with a simple black tee because it was easy to throw on (and wouldn’t wrinkle throughout my busy day). I stock up on these basic long sleeve t-shirts every few years. They wash so well and are perfect for wearing alone or layered.
I loved how they pulled some more color from the houndstooth of the skirt.
I’ve been getting so much use out of these loafers and, wow, I’ve never received so many compliments. A lady stopped me on the street, asked me where they were from, and she pulled the website up and ordered right in front of me! She was so sweet and couldn’t believe the price.

I saw you talking about the loafers on your Youtube video and I had to open up the page too. I’d been looking for something like it for so long!

Love this skirt! I’m headed home for fall break this weekend and plan to spend a day in NYC with friends. I was worrying about what to wear because it’s supposed to be around 80 degrees, but you’re right–a patterned skirt is the perfect balance between embracing fall fashion and staying cool!

I tried this skirt yesterday and ended up not buying it (I bought another navy ruffled skirt from J.crew) but now you’re making me regret it ! Love that outfit !
I keep eying those loafers! Are they comfortable to wear for the day? Also which color are you wearing?
They wear just like ballet flats, so I find them comfortable throughout the day. I’m wearing the Deep Russet!
Such a chic look, Carly! Love that skirt and those loafers are a great pop of color!
