I totally didn’t realize that the Fourth of July fell on a Friday… until Thursday. And I totally forgot that most people take the day off of work…. until Thursday. So I had an unexpected, but very much welcomed, long weekend. (
And I basically took off Thursday afternoon too. Because, well, I felt like it.)
I was worried about being in the city for the Fourth…
last year, I went home to Tampa. But I’m kind of
exhausted from traveling. Especially now that I have Teddy, I just hate having to leave him behind and I really don’t like flying with him. I did some serious traveling since the beginning of the year, but it’s been terribly nice to just
stay put. Weekends in the city during the summer are sacred, in my opinion. (Plus, everyone else flees to the Hamptons– especially on the Upper East Side– so it’s kind of quieter!)

I made Garrett and Matthew come to the Ed Sheeran concert. It’s part of the Today Show summer concert series. Everywhere we read online, it said you’d be fine if you were in line by 6am. Well, we got there at 5am were SO FAR BEHIND. The line was insane. (And frankly, the concert was hard to enjoy after standing in line for so many hours and being squished into these little gates. But we had a blast hanging out with each other, concert or no concert.)

Obviously, we followed up with breakfast at Penelope’s. One of my favorite spots that always has the longest lines so I tend to avoid it. But we wrapped up the Today Show early enough where we didn’t have to wait. So delicious. Plus, they gave us some festive Fourth of July straws. And then we all took the longest naps ever.

We thought it would be a great idea to try to see the fireworks downtown. Miraculously the rain had disappeared and we made the long trek down. Rookie mistake. That’s where everyone goes to see the fireworks. It was fun to see everything going on, but we much preferred the Upper East Side.

After a quick dinner (#burgersandfries), we caught the sunset on the East River and hung out waiting for the fireworks. Pretty low-key up there, just the way we like it! Matthew caught Garrett and me in action taking sunset pictures hahaha.
Saturday was just filled exploring and shopping (and ice cream, of course). Definitely one of the best walking days around the city, even if it was tremendously hot!
And errands and catching up on Sunday. Just in case you thought Teddy didn’t have a good weekend too… here’s a picture of him during one of his many trips to the park. Pure joy!
Hope you had a great Fourth of July too!
Glad you had a great weekend! Gorgeous pics, love the scenery!

Looks like a great way to spend the weekend! Love the pictures!
I spent the holiday weekend in DC, and it was my first time there. I fell in love with the city…and thought of you, too, when I was in Georgetown! But wow, what a neat city. I was lucky enough to experience some of the local things, since I was staying with a friend who lives there. I never knew that "brunching" was such an important thing until now 🙂
DC brunching scene is a BIG deal. Way bigger than even NYC 🙂 haha
Even better you got Thursday afternoon off unexpectedly I am sure!
