Healthy March Madness Recipes

Louisa’s back today sharing some great healthy options for March Madness gatherings. Gar and I have actually been having friends over every week or so and these all seem like the perfect recipes to pull out for the occasion. I’m always tempted to do something store bought (guilty), so I’m especially feeling inspired for homemade salsa and guacamole now!

Is anyone else pumped about March Madness? I love following this tournament every March (even though I went to university in Canada) and I don’t really have any attachment to any team, but I get so swept up in the excitement. When I was growing up, I’d often be visiting my family in Pittsburgh during the tournament so that’s how we got started with the tournament. My family and I all make our brackets and I have yet to win, but this will be my year!
I love watching the games and I truly believe that having delicious snacks is one of the most integral parts to a successful game day, but I wanted to put a bit of a healthy twist because summer is on the way. Here are seven satisfying healthy March Madness snacks that will please everybody.
Since there are so many games in this tournament, serving healthy options is a great idea – also because summer is on the way and I’m not sure eating game day foods for a month is going to be the best idea. My go-to healthy snack is my edamame with sriracha and sesame oil, you can’t go wrong – this recipe makes one serving, but you can easily quadruple the recipe!
I also love to make a dip bar with a variety of healthy dips and salsas (my pineapple salsa is a real winner), this is a simple way to have a lot of options to choose from to keep everybody happy. Serve my 5-ingredient guacamole, black bean dip, and basic restaurant-style salsa to round out the table with a variety of vegetables, chips and crackers.
Popcorn gets a bad rep, but when you’re making it at home it’s actually not that bad for you. Popcorn is actually a whole grain, and I have a popcorn recipe that is made with chili and lime without a ton of butter and salt that I think is the ultimate healthy game-day snack.
I hope those ideas leave you inspired to make some healthier choices this March Madness. Will you be watching and cheering on the teams? Here’s to everyone winning their pools this year!
