How to Style a Plaid Blazer Three Ways

Daylights savings right now has really messed with me. I don’t remember being this affected by the lack of light in the evenings as much as I am this year. I’m sure I’m not the only one. But I think between the lack of evening light, the frequent grey/rainy days, and being home a lot because of COVID, I am riding the struggle bus right now.

I can even admit that I think I have a slight sense of grief right now knowing the holidays are going to look a lot different this year. (We are still trying to figure out what our plans even are for Thanksgiving. If we’ll do it just the two of us or not.) And part of me is looking at my closet like…. what is the actual point. With that said, while fancy holiday clothes are just not worth it right now, I still work better and, frankly feel better, when I’m dressed in something other than sweats and a sweatshirt. There are days when those are worth it. But I definitely notice a change in my mood and productivity when I’m actually dressed.

This weekend, I have it on my calendar to do a little closet refresh. I’m just going to move anything out of my closet that isn’t practical for a 2020 Holiday Season. Stick to things that are comfortable, cute and cozy, while still feeling seasonal.

I also thought a fun little “exercise” so to speak would be to do a couple of outfit collages to serve as inspiration. I used to do this ALL the time in college and my early twenties when I was trying to hone in on my personal style (or when I wanted a certain look and couldn’t afford it). It’s also just fun too.

How to Style a Plaid Blazer Three Ways:

Today I wanted to focus on some of my favorite clothing items: THE BLAZER. More specifically, the plaid blazer. I have a couple of plaid blazers hanging in my closet that I absolutely love. A good plaid blazer is a wardrobe staple, truly and can be worn a bunch of different ways depending on what vibe you’re going for. And a 2020 bonus? They are (obviously) great for Zoom calls! You can wear almost anything underneath– a slip dress, a white tee, your favorite skinny jeans– and elevate your look in an instant. They add a pop to even the most simple outfit… and can be thrown on right before you hit “join call.”

COZY AND MONOCHROMATIC

Blazer + Turtleneck + Mules + Leggings + Headband

This is a super easy way to take your usual cozy outfit and slightly elevate it with a blazer. I live in these turtlenecks once the weather dips and they are great to layer with. I try to avoid yoga pants during the day, especially when I’m working, but these leggings give you the comfort of yoga pants with the look of real pants. Best of both worlds.

SLIGHTLY DRESSY WITH A SLIP DRESS

Blazer + Slip Dress + Heels

This is something I want to try. Wearing a plaid blazer over a slip dress (this one is under $20 right now)! It’s just outside of my comfort zone, but last summer I fell in love with the look (and ease) of slip dresses. Just sexy enough for a date night at home without going overboard.

COMFY WITH A WHITE TEE AND SKINNY JEANS

Blazer + White Tee + Jeans + Sneakers

And my personal favorite? Pairing a plaid blazer with a simple white tee and skinny jeans. It’s the EASIEST way to add a pop to your outfit!

I am slowly being influenced by you to get Tretorns. I had them back in high school and they were “the” preppy person’s shoe. I like the pleather/yoga pants. It reminds me of the post “Business in the Front, Party in the Back’? Reimagined: Business in the Front, Comfort in the Back.

Love the leopard shoe and plaid blazer combo! Would love to also see them on person to see how the proportions work – especially the slip dress and blazer together. It looks good on paper though!
