DUDLEY STEPHENS REVIEW

With winter absolutely here and months of cold ahead of us, I wanted to do this post about Dudley Stephens. I love my Dudley Stephens fleece turtlenecks. They are absolutely “trendy” as far as Instagram is concerned– they’re everywhere– but it’s for good reason. I got my first one three years ago and I’ve been a fan ever since.

Whenever I wear one (which is at least once a week– lately more frequently since we’re just home) I get quite a few questions. I think I’ve answered these throughout random blog posts over the years but just wanted to have them live in one place.

DUDLEY STEPHENS REVIEW

MY FAVORITE STYLES:

BRIGHTON BOATNECK

The “Brighton Boatneck” is my absolute favorite style. I think it’s the most flattering on my frame and with my larger chest. I also like that it isn’t as bulky around my neck. (I don’t know about you but sometimes I can get a little claustrophobic with any turtleneck really.)

PARK SLOPE

After the Boatneck, I like the Park Slope. You can roll the turtleneck down to fake the boatneck style, but it looks just as cute standing up. The intense turtleneck is definitely the signature “Dudley” look.

WHAT IS THE FIT LIKE:

I think they fit true to size. If you’re in between sizes, I’d go up not down, but I think getting your usual size is the way to go. They also have a fantastic fit guide featuring real women wearing the different styles and sizes if you need to visualize your body type in a Dudley!

I either wear a sports bra underneath (more for my own comfort than anything else) or a wireless bra.

VELLO vs TERRY FLEECE:

I have to be honest here, I didn’t even realize there were two different kinds for a while. I’m fairly certain almost all of my turtlenecks are the signature vello fleece. The vello fleece is what you probably recognize as more traditional “fleece” fabric– warm, cozy, and thick. The terry fleece is more lightweight and less structured. Here’s their breakdown if the two.

HOW DO I LIKE TO STYLE MINE:

While I do think some people can pull off wearing Dudley Stephens with “cute” outfits– I’m not one of those girls. I blame my large chest, but I think I look kind of frumpy if I try to wear one with anything other than leggings or skinny jeans. In my weekly outfits, you’ll see I either wear a Dudley Stephens with yoga pants and sneakers or UGGs for a casual, comfy day. Or I wear them with skinny jeans, cute sneakers, and a cute accessory like a headband or statement earrings.

HOW DO YOU CARE FOR THE FLEECE:

I wash and dry mine with all of my other laundry. I do have two tips. The first is to flip the fleece inside out when washing– I think it helps cut down on damage to the fleece and also helps prevent lint from other clothes from sticking. And on that note: I don’t recommend washing with any towels for the lint! It comes off easily with a lint roller, but easier to avoid it in the first place. Otherwise, wash typically with hot water and dry with heat as well. Zero issues over the years!

Love this post! I had not heard of this company before but totally ordered the tunic style sweatershirt! And LOVED you last post on the ski sweaters!!! Thanks for all the lovely ideas! By the way, what are your favorite sweat pants/joggers/lounge pants?? I soooo need some and just can’t figure out which ones to purchase. I live in Florida and never think about warm/cozy clothes until we have that one weekend of 70 below weather and then have nothing to wear! I ski so I have like 1 week of apres ski attire for a winter wardrobe but none of it is casual/lounge attire!

Here’s my thoughts on the fit: I love, love the neck and think it’s super fun and flattering. However, the shoulders seem to run small in the sweaters. I’m a size 6 that borders on a 4 in tops, and I would say that the sweaters run small. You definitely aren’t going to have room for anything else underneath it if you wanted. The other thing that I desperately wish they would changes is the color of the logo. If you don’t like logos on your clothes, heads up that it’s neon green on your wrist, in a very prominent place. I ended up returning mine because the fit was small and the logo was just too much. At $150 I didn’t feel it was worth it.

Wow – I actually can’t wear these awesome sweaters as their smallest size is so big in the shoulders it’s laughable. I called them to ask if a kids size would fit (based on measurements) and they were too confused to answers. They couldn’t believe that their XS wouldn’t fit someone. Well, maybe they should offer an XXS – there are petite people in this world.
