Growing up, my mom made all of our Halloween costumes by hand. She let us pick whatever we wanted, and having one-of-a-kind costumes made us feel so special. It’s definitely a core memory for me! One of the most rewarding parts of being a mom is being able to carry on traditions from my own childhood– handmade costumes, hopefully, being one of them. I planned on sewing both Jack and Rory’s costumes this year, but I had to admit that I only had bandwidth for one, so I caved and scooped up something from Etsy for Jack. Can’t wait to show you all!! They’re going to look just darling.
I know most people can’t or don’t want to go the DIY route, and I get it– it’s time-consuming and requires a LOT of advance planning. With the 31st quickly approaching, I wanted to pull together some last-minute kids Halloween costumes you can get from Amazon in a snap. It’s worth pointing out that a lot of them (like Alice in Wonderland, Dorothy, construction worker) have more accessories than pictured, but I cropped them out in order to maximize space in the collages. On the other hand, some of these last-minute kids Halloween costumes are *just* accessories (unicorn, cat, superhero) which I like for two reasons: you can keep your child warm and comfortable in their regular clothes, and they make playing dress-up SO easy!
P.S. I realize that costumes aren’t necessarily gender-specific. For simplicity’s sake, it made the most sense to divide them up between boys and girls, based on what I’ve see most on kids.
P.P.S. Here’s more children’s Halloween costumes, and these are my best Halloween costume ideas for women.
