ON MY RADAR

This week flew by. Not even for any particular reason? I just blinked and it’s Friday! We had a low-key week here. I was doing a little reflecting since we’re already one month into the year on how my mantra for the year is to see the beautiful in the everyday and I really think I’ve been doing that. Even on the not-so-good days, because we all have those, I find myself running through the exercise of actively seeking out the beautiful moments… and that helps so much. I found myself going to sleep this week and running through some of my favorite moments throughout the day before falling asleep… and they’re always bite size moments and little snippets from the day that I find myself replaying in my head! Anyway, just thought I’d share that because it was on my mind so much this week 😌

This is what our days have been looking like. Comfy clothes and lots of playtime!

Here’s what was on my radar this week:

ONE // Almond Pillow Cookies Recipe

I am making these ASAP. Elsa had me over to her house last week and she picked up some almond pillow cookies from Fresh Market and let me just say, my life will never be the same. Absolutely divine. We don’t have a Fresh Market super close to us, so I think I’m just going to have to make a batch of them myself! Found a recipe online!

TWO // The NY Times Bought Wordle

Wow! I’ve been still loving Wordle– I look forward to playing every day. I’m curious how the sale to NY Times will go, but I think the guy was smart to sell. You never know how long trends will last and, if nothing else, he totally captured the hearts of so many people even if it’s only for a brief moment! I say, good for him!

THREE // Harry Potter Pointe Class

Full disclosure, I haven’t taken a ballet class in years and I have certainly never been on pointe. But for some reason this popped up in my suggested Youtube videos and I watched a few minutes of it. If you’re a dancer and want a fun workout video, do this and then come back and let me know what you thought… I’m dying to know if it’s as fun as it looks!

FOUR // DIY Felt Letter Pennant

So I bought a felt pennant for Jack’s nursery when I was pregnant and I absolutely hated the color combination I chose. (No one to blame but myself.) It looked like something from a McDonald’s Happy Meal– I don’t know what I was thinking other than maybe I had gone through the McDonald’s drive through for french fries one too many times while pregnant. Maybe I’ll try to make my own though?! Saw this on Pinterest and looks like a fun little project.

FIVE // An Adaptive Hug

I’m going to let this video speak for itself. But I do need to put out a disclaimer that you shouldn’t watch unless you’re ready and prepared to cry…. man, it hit me so hard in the feels. I had to take five minutes to collect myself after watching!

I love these posts and look forward to them every week. I feel like there’s always something for everyone in them.
The pennant DIY caught my eye this morning, and I wanted to reach out with a small tip that may improve the quality and outcome if you choose to do it: Use *wool* felt, and not the felt from the craft store. Wool felt keeps its shape much better, and the color selection is generally better. You can typically find it on Etsy; trust me, it’s worth the extra incremental cost.
Can’t wait to see how yours turns out!

Just made the almond pillow cookies – delicious! I did find that I made a second batch of the cookie dough part because I had so much extra of the almond paste mixture. Thanks for posting it!

Coming into the third year of this pandemic, we all deserve to embrace the beauty in life! The practice of writing down our “favourite things” from the day has really helped my partner and I maintain positivity and seek out something lovely each and every day. I hope your reminder helps many more to embrace this practice! <3

Love the pointe workout share, Carly! You can always modify it to just being on demi-pointe in ballet shoes/socks for a fun workout!
